Most dissapointing game.

Vanilla Oblivion
Command and Conquer 3 (And, for that matter, every C&C after Zero Hour)
Invisible War

Red Faction 2.
Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows (Come on after Dark Legacy I expected more).
Turok Evolution.
Turok Rage Wars.
Turok 360 and PS3.
Star Trek Tactical Assualt.
Fallout 3.
Ys: Ark of Napishtam on the PSP.
Alone in the Dark 360.
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (I did like some of the elements in the game however).
Wizards and Warriors 2 & 3 on the NES.
Wizards & Warriors on the PC---to many game killing bugs in it but it has a great soundtrack.

Fallout New Vegas and fable 2 are the only two come to mind. But then again I don't buy that many games these recent years.

Red Dead Redemption
Rage
Oblivion
Dragon Age 2

All games that showed a lot of promise. All games that really, really let me down, the last three especially.

Red Dead Redemption simply doesn't live up to all the praise that it is given. The story itself is pretty decent, but I find the gameplay and the world a bit lacking.

Rage is just boring.

Oblivion certainly wasn't Morrowind.

And Dragon Age 2 certainly isn't Origins. It's actually not a bad game, but it doesn't compare. Also had a pretty weak ending. Streamlined a bit too much with this one.

Those were the one's that really came to mind.

Difficult. In terms of hype compared to how much I liked it, probably KOTOR. I've heard so many people say it's the greatest game ever, and I just couldn't get into it at all.

Quake 4. It got a lot better with patches, but it was too late and the community just went back to Q3.

Skyrim was let down as well.

Reasons, please give them.

Anyways, to be on topic, I'd have to say DA 2 was my biggest disappointment. Absolutely loved DA:O, but they just butchered it. Bioware, y u kill awesome IP?!

Blimey, I'd nearly forgotten about Quake 4. I'm not sure what exactly was the problem with it, but it felt like one of the least immersive games I've ever played; and also one of the most linear: it's not like it was any more linear than, say, Half Life 2, but it was at the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of hiding it.

I was quasi-fortunate enough to have at least seen the Halo-Wars format (a friend played it) but I feel your pain.
It cut me pretty deep C&C 4 did.
:nope:

EDIT: Looking back, I can see how RA3 started down that slippery slope.

C&C 4 did not feel like a c&c game. There was next to no base building mechanics. It was all too fast paced and is just not what I look for in a strategy game, especially c&c. I liked ra3, but my favourite has t be zero hour :)

Before I got into the TES series, I was completely obsessed with the Silent Hill series. My biggest disappointment was SH 5: Homecoming (as well as each subsequent game in the series). I knew to expect some differences since the original team left after SH 4, but I didn't expect it to be so horribly wrong. Luckily, I was getting into TES by then so I had something new to obsess about.

I'd have to go with C&C 3 + Kane's Wrath.
OR! The first RA after the after the Aftermath and Counter-Strike expansion missions.

Age of Empires III is infamous to me. Never has a game been more anticipated and let me down so much as that did.

I had come to love the rich historical basis that Age of Empires was known for. The campaigns that took me across Joan of Arc, Saladin, Frederick Barbarossa, and Ghengis Khan, and a dozen more famous battles from antiquity on. All the while enthralling me with beautiful cities, an arguably complex and satisfying resource and economy management system, and a very large list of units and technologies.

Age of Empires III had so much potential. A new era, a new technology, and the New World. But it wasn't to be. Instead of a rich historical tour de force I was met with a cheap, poorly written fantasy story about fake cults and fake knights and an actual literal fountain of youth. I got russians invading the continental US, I got skull faced enemies, and I got fake people who never existed doing fake things that never happened.

They also dumbed down the economy system and added in an innane and derivative home city card game and level up system for online play.

It's the only video game I've actually purchased and then returned to the store the same week and demanded a refund for. I got one too.

*sigh*

Only bought one new game all year: Skyrim. Dissapointed isn't the proper word to use but it wasn't what I was expecting. It seems rather shallow and featureless besides those stupid gimmicks Beth put in.

Reasons, please give them.

Spoiler
Bad UI: Everything from the archaic item organization to the flashy yet dysfunctional map.

Short and underwhelming quests: Like some have mentioned, skyrim lets you dip your feet in an ultimately shallow faction pool. The mainquest was pretty bad too. I think its a combination of poor story telling (becoming Dragonborn should take time) and unintelligent marketing.

Customization: Removing things like rings, pants and facial slider features is a huge disappointment. Even though the new face models in this game are a major breakthrough in comparison to Oblivion and Fallout 3, most of the females look the same with the hair being a major factor that differentiates the two. The hair models look really bad in this game. It was one of my biggest concerns with Fallout 3 -- as the hair looked really flat and poorly textured, and its gotten even worse with Skyrim

I could elaborate more but I feel like people won't read this.

Skyrim should've waited till 12.12.12 They got a little crazy with their marketing and in result produced a game that tries to do so many things, but doesn't do any one thing that well. The great thing about modders is that each of them focuses on one of Bethesda's visions and makes it the best it can be. And maybe this is the reason I was disappointed with Skyrim -- I expected it to be as rich and fulfilling as a modded Oblivion.

What an excellent way to sum things about Skyrim :)
