New Firefox Update

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 11:14 pm

OK, so I've today got the Firefox 13.0 update, and it has added some features, main ones I've noticed being the recent links in a new tab, and scrolling being slow when only scrolling a bit. The new scrolling thing is really irritating and kind of hurts my eyes, does anyone who uses it know of a way to turn it off?

I also noticed that the scrolling seems "smoother", yet it was kind of annoying. I never changed it though, and it grows on you quickly. I don't even notice it anymore.

I looked further into it in the options and managed to change it, if you want to just go to: Firefox orange bit at top > Options > Options > Advanced > Uncheck Use smooth scrolling

This can be closed unless it could be used as a discussion on Firefox updates or something.

I turned off the smooth scrolling (which was always an option, the update just seems to have it turned on by default) and changed the new tab back to about:blank.

Ah, thanks for telling me. Didn't know that. :)

Maybe I'll do it myself, I've forgotten what "old" Firefox feels like.

So did I, the images looked a bit annoying and stretched.

I gave up with Firefox, too many updates and too many problems with add-ons breaking, plus as said the scrolling was anything but smooth.. I now use http://www.palemoon.org/, a Fx based browser that is optimised for Windows. The smooth scrolling set up on it is very good and with the next release should be even better.

Thanks for sharing, I may try this out as Firefox is getting a bit annoying. Don't know if I will be able to change but I said that before switching to Firefox from Internet Explorer :P

You know, it has the potential to be okay. Does it really move slower, or does it just lag behind your command a little bit and continue sliding a little bit after it?

Lags a bit, and is a bit slower when it actually does it. I prefer non smooth scrolling and have disabled it :) .

After trying it is a lot like the current firefox but the Firefox button is blue and says Pale Moon, and it seems faster.

Chrome seems to be svcking up a lot more memory than usual when I have any tabs with Flash in them lately, even if it's just an embedded but unplayed YouTube video. So I downloaded Firefox to see if I could use it instead. I can't, in part because the scrolling really annoys me. I like smooth scrolling, and I have a plugin for Chrome that adds it, but the Firefox scrolling is too much, too slow.

I'll see about this Pale Moon thing instead, for when Chrome gets laggy.

Looks just like Firefox, can be configured to your requirements like Firefox, accepts all add ons that Firefox does - in fact you can say it is Firefox with a lot of the "useless stuff" removed that Mozilla add to keep up with Chrome and to allow its use on other operating systems. I was doubtful about it when I decided to give it a go but am glad I made the change, and it is very fast.

Interesting, I may try that. I've used Chrome, which was faster but lacked most of the things I use FF for, and Opera always seemed slower than FF to me.

Pale Moon does sound kind of interesting. Perhaps I'll give it a go myself eventually. Firefox seems good to me, but maybe I simply don't understand what I'm missing.

Running it now. Seems O.K., I'll give it a few days to see what I think.

Just updated and immediately had to disable the smooth scrolling, didn't like it at all. Other than it seems pretty much the same, apart from the new tabs. It runs fast so I don't see any need to change my browser.

When you quit and reopen Firefox it installs automatically.

I just turned smooth scrolling on to see what all the fuss was about, and I actually like it much better this way.

The (not so) smooth scrolling on Firefox always seemed worse on these forums than elsewhere, on some sites it works quite well.

http://forum.palemoon.org/download/file.php?id=124&mode=view so you can set the parameters yourself if you don't like what you have, a feature Firefox doesn't have.
