New Sim City?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 6:55 am

I hope it's something like Sim City 4 with upgraded graphics, tons upon tons of micromanagement and new fun ways to destroy your city.

I just hope Upgraded Graphics =/= Unpolished 3D. Many "Building" games look cartoonish and "silly" in 3D in my opinion.

(For me Roller Coaster 2 was cooler than Roller Coaster 3)

Gonna say that this is entirely http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=464903 but it looks like there'll be a new Sim City down the road. about time, one of my first "god games" that i enjoyed immesnely back in the day. are there people alive here care?

[/i]
I sure do care - Thanks for posting about it.

Woo!

Your post and link was the first I'd seen that's more substantial than just wishful thinking of a potential SCV. Went searching and found that the fan site Simtropolis is carrying a few (2?) web/mag news releases also. Oh, I'd so love a new SC! The imitators never came close imho.

I'm utterly brimming with anticipation, my only slow down is that it has EA on its banner, has MP tied into it and Will isn't putting his right into it :P other than that, BRING IT.
and please no Sim societies mess

^EA is just the publisher. It has and perhaps always will be developed by Maxis. And yes I'm aware that EA owns Maxis.

I wish it to be exactly like SimCity 2000 for MS DOS (only one I ever played).

Giant alien robots, weird llama obsession, tyrannical transportation advisor, SimAnt playing in drive-ins. And of course, the awesome music.

I think I should get Sim City 2000 again... I remember getting it first time back in late 90's, it cost me 40 Marks (some 6,5 €) played it with an obsession for a few years with my friends but then lost in the great torrents of time... I wonder where I could get it again.

Oh, this news is a cool surprise; I loved SC4. I was hoping for a new one of these someday.
2000 was also fun but hard; I never made a city in that one that didn't turn into a broke crumbling ghost town eventually. Never tried 3 or that Societies one.
Can't wait to find out more about this!

So I came home today to find this linked through RPS:
http://www.simcity.com/en_US?intcmp=EACom_simcityannounce_latest_0312

It's been a long time since I saw a new Maxis logo. Seems we might get those llamas after all :P
I do hope the multiplayer isn't mandatory, and resources don't end up working like those in XL (where you had to build multiple meh towns to support one nice city).

One day...
SimCopter was awesome. It fulfills such a basic desire, to interact with what you've built on a much more personal level.
Though I often ended up crafting whole cities in SCURK for use in SimCopter :P

Indeed. I'd do the same for Streets too(I remember trying to make a stage where I could drive on the rooftops. The game tended to render buildings differently to how they looked in game though)

I used to love Sim City. I would spend so much time building these awesome cities then destroy them with title waves or aliens. This sounds cool as hell and it's definitely been a long time since we had a good "Sim" titled game. But there is just one problem listed in the first few lines of the announcement. I'll give you all a hint. It's under "Publisher" and that for me is a non-purchase. Which is very, very unfortunate thing because I'd seriously buy this game if it were not for that one small fact.

Nice! Thanks for posting the information.

I share your concerns about Multiplayer. While optional MP is a neat idea, I really really hope they don't allow this aspect to gimp the core SP game content & experience like Monte Cristo's Cities XL did. That game failed hard in no small part due to its designed hopelessly entangled dependancy on MP activity. They totally gutted the core game in hopes of getting a pay-per-month IP. Now look where they are!

Well it isn't Simcity 5, it's just Simcity. I really don't understand the need to "Reboot" the franchise. Why not just let people who may not have hear of it know that the previous games exist?

And for those that may not have seen it here's the http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=kztNWdhRdnw. I wonder when we'll see some actual gameplay?

It's just some weird fad. It's bad practice no matter what you're actually doing with the franchise, imo.
So yeah, I don't see the reason to consciously confuse people and will continue to refer to it as 'SimCity 5'. At least until they actually title a game 'SimCity 5', at which point it just becomes a big mess.

Glass Box is a new data driven simulation that we have built for Maxis style games, not just Sim City, but things like Sim Copter, Sim Tower.

Haven't played the Sim City series for years, so it's cool to see that a new installment is coming. I'll try to keep track on it and see how the game is, I want some gameplay videos!

I hope the new SimCity does the series justice. Sim Societies was a horrid flop and its better left forgotten I played it for all of about an hour and the whole time I was playing it I thought I might vomit. I hope the new one is a true successor to SimCity4 and it gives us the city building tools and the structure to make your whole city work. I am eagerly hoping and anticipating a Sim City 5. Regardless what they say its still SimCity 5.

Boy does that Maxis logo give me nostalgia... hopefully this new one will feel like another true SimCity game, and not a cheap watered down version.
