New Vegas Mod Detectives #1

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 4:38 am

I'm looking for a mod that alters the companions AI where they won't run off, around the next corner where they are surrounded by an angry mob of enemys which are very fortunate that someone is really so dumb to charge right into them.
Instead, they should stay at my side/behind me and only shoot/attack when the target is in line of sight of me.
Another addition would be, that they won't attack at all, when I'm in sneak mode or (not necessarily) before I attack first.

Thank you.

The closest thing to that would be http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35155. However, the author has gone M.I.A so it's definitely not compatible with the latest patch without major bugs. If you do know how to use FNVEdit, it may be worth a shot trying to make it work. It's definitely the best companion mod if it were updated... You know what? I'm going to try that. I'll edit this post again when I've given it a shot.

Currently, what I'm using is http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37642. When you set it to Passive, your companions will not attack at all. Once set to Aggressive, they will once you are in caution. This is "Option 2" by the way. Option 1 works like in Vanilla, where companions engage in combat by themselves.

But with the mod Correction - Passive, the follower is running in the same spot due to that they want to attack but they freezes with the ruining animation in motion....thats not good at all.

It's better than nothing with what we do have right now. I would rather have the animations not work properly than have companions just rush in, dragging me in tow.

Speaking of my last post.. :sadvaultboy: Way too much correcting with Phanlax. In the end, FNVEdit couldn't save the file. *Sigh* Maybe I'll give it another shot..

Edit: Looks like it saved this time.. might as well test it but I doubt it'll work considering its packages.

Edit #2: The main features of Phanlax works. However, you have to do the following:
  • Adjust Companion level scales / max level.
  • Fix Veronica's flags so that she can scale properly *Really bad error.*
  • Make sure any mods that relate to companions, Companion Sandbox mode, Companion Dressup, New Vegas redesigned, etc... are in Phanlax's .esp, if you're going by BOSS load order. This will make Phanlax have additional masters but it'll be for the best.
  • Live with healing bugs. Healing a companion with Phanlax with the new patch consists of healing negative health, healing only one stimpack's worth and any additional ones are pointless, and healing does nothing. Not sure what causes these but it could be the script.

Once you fix those, and can live with the healing bugs, it's your best option.

Edit #3: Geez I need to stop at some point. The Remote Control Companion mod that ghoulsrpeople2 in previous posts will allow you for a separate healing function, which does work. So I guess the bug can be avoided but it's still present. That should be all of the edits. Make sure to have your edited Phanlax loaded after Remote Control Companions. I know RCC doesn't conflict with anything but just to be safe.

I have to correct what i wrote before, i have now tested version Option 2 of Correction Passive...and it works just fine. Followers don't freeze with the running animation in motion, must have tried just the first version before.

So this is rely a god fix for the passive mode for followers, now i can tell Rex or any other follower to be passive and they don't run away like a gun-ho.

The only thing that's really wrong with Correction - Passive is that it can be exploited combat-wise.. I'll let anyone who going to use it find out. Using my adjusted Phanlax for New Vegas and Remote Control Companions seems to fit more of my style, as I don't have to continuously monitor a companion's state of mind.

Edit: Regardless, Correction - Passive works and it should satisfy stealth characters a lot.

im using Correction with RCC but it doesnt satisfy. your adjusted phalanx sounds more promising but i was put off my the prospect of having to adjust stuff. mind posting your modified esp? :D

Btw, anyone know of a mod that adds gunpowder to merchants? i find it a bit odd that you cant find everything you need to make ammo with merchants?

It was modified more or less to work with the other mods I had that dealt with companions. Those would be Companion Sandbox Mode, Level 30 Companion Cap, Companion Dressup and New Vegas Redesigned. Oddly enough, it uses the same packages as the latest patch, it's just that directly healing companions is extremely bugged for the most part; Possibly because of the outdated script. That's where RCC comes in and solves that solution. Passive in Phalanx works beautifully for me as Correction - Passive has to constantly make me adjust companions from Passive to Agressive to make it work. When I attack; Rex attacks and that's what I like a lot about it. Everything else is just a bonus in Phalanx. The only real problem with it is that the author forgot to set Veronica to level properly, which threw me off when I was first editing it.

All I can say is that learning to use FNVEdit is probably for the best. It's saved me a lot of trouble and has made mods that weren't actually working, work. Edit: I can post it if you wish but hey, this is a possible learning experience that could make your future a lot easier.

As for your edit: That mainly can be done via the GECK by simply adding powder to the merchant's containers. So it's one of those, "Do it yourself" ideas. Just my take on it but there's a good chance there's a mod on it regardless.

I haven't come across it in my searching at all, but back in FO3 there was a mod called Owned! that made it so after you killed someone, their property would no longer flag as stolen should you decide to loot them. (It also included ownership flags for the player to purchase owned homes and collect rent, but that is far secondary). Has anything like this made it to NV that anyone else has seen?

Are there any location mods to add some nice, lootable city ruins? I want to make a nice little scavenger character, but the Mojave doesn't really allow for it. Looking for something with a lot of loot.

Is there a mod that slows down super mutants? They're like a new race of champion sprinters.

I have installed a Quest-Mod called "Silent Struggle"

I was having a little trouble with it and went searching for updates. I can no longer find this mod anywhere. No mention in these forums, nothing on Nexus (though I can't remember where I got it, Nexus is my primary source) nothing in a Google Search.

I'm not imagining things. I've got the esp right here—why don't modders annotate their Mods as a matter of course?

Has the author removed his mod and disappeared?

Go on the Nexus and search for 'Interiors'. It will show you like 5 mods that add interiors to boarded up buildings, giving you more to scavenge.

Any mods that allow you to upgrade the DR of your armour? I love the way the Bright Brotherhood Robe looks on my character (black cowboy hat+laser pistol+biker goggles+BBR = cyberpunk post-apoc cowboy), but it's not really suitable for anything beyond level 8.

Looks like there's a couple on the nexus on a very basic search:

http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35885 - Retexture of this: http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36800
http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39897

As for armors and other weapons, you'll have to do more indepth searching on the Nexus.

I usually save the readme files but I forget that FOMM doesn't. (grumble mutter grumble)

You've saved me a lot of investigative work (homage to Firesign Theater.)
