Night vision goggles?

Will there be NVG's in NV? Preferably one with a futuristic vision display.

Didn't the Night Person (?) perk let you see slightly better in darkness?

I'm not really feeling the whole night vision thing...

No, your intelligence and perception or some other SPECIAL just goes up during the night.

Ah, ya now I remember.

Sorry but my xbox has been in Las Vegas for the past six months, haven't played F3 in quite a while.

And yes, I realize the coincidence. Hoping to get it back by the time F:NV comes out...

Honestly a night vision perk would be better than goggles. They had those in Fallout 1 and 2.

Always DLC. I think the power armors should have night vision built in.

At reaver, all these futuristic weapons are based on 1950s atomic age sci fi. Night Vision was never one of those things if I recall right.

Night Vision is simply pure military strategy. It's invaluable to combat situations that take place in dark areas. So it would have been invented in some form. Personally? I'd rather see a type of red-LED flashlight instead of traditional nightvision - because the light a red light gives off doesn't hurt our natural night vision and it still illuminates things. But that's really not the point. From a realistic standpoint, it's common sense that they were invented. They might be bulkier than they are in real life, but they'd likely have some from of existence.

There's a pretty good chance they were made, but you can't say it's common sense that they were invented. Common sense doesn't lead to the invention of night vision goggles, the advent of necessary technologies and an insight lead to the development of NVG.

i'm not saying Night Vision is BAD. It's just, if you implement Sam Fisher goggles or something that looks modern, it ruins that retro futuristic aesthetic in my personal opinion, I could see something like say, Power Armor having NV in some way, or maybe something very heavy since it was new just before the war, the point is, it would have to be very carefully implemented.

I agree. Whether it would be plausible or not doesn't really matter, it could very easily dilute the setting.

I would like to think that in a world where there are nuclear powered cars, that they would have night vision technology pretty much down pat. Plus there's stealth boys, and if they have camouflage...well, night vision pretty much goes hand in hand.

Not to mention that if I was living in a post-apocalyptic wasteland populated by raiders, zombies, psycho's and mutant creatures I think that when nighttime came rollin around I would really want to be able to see more than two feet in front of my face.

Although as it pertains to gameplay, I'm iffy on the subject of night vision. And as was said before, I think it could very well screw with the setting/atmosphere/aesthetic of the game.

Yet that Ninja Suit thing from the Fallout 3 DLC doesn't look robotic/futuristic in any way? I respect your opinion, I just think there's room for alot of things as long as it's implemented in the right way.

But seriously, as much as I abuse that stealth suit, I never cared for its modern style. I know it'd be hard to create a stealthsuit and make it look retro, but it still looks like something from a futuristic our time perspective.

@Roompert- It isnt a question of should it or should it not be in the game, its a question of implementation. I mean, the stealthboy is very sci fi, but it also looks clunky and retro futurist. And if they wanted night vision, they'd have to be careful with how they implement it.

Meh, I could see why night vision goggles would be put in, and I suppose they're pretty cool. But personally, I wouldn't use them -- it just doesn't feel.. right imo. Seems too modern (as in our current day modern) and I like the Wasteland feel. Really even if I did want to use them, I don't see when I would -- the night isn't really that dark.

?

**Edit... I see a lot of posts mentioning things as being too modern... but Fallout was set 77 years into the new millennium [bombs dropped] and Fallout: New Vegas is set in the year 2280
So I never understand the reasoning behind saying something is too modern for Fallout. Fallout has man engineered genetic mutation, plasma weaponry, and robotic power armor.
Its set waaay in the future, and is not (prior to FO3) "locked in the fifties".

It will always have a fifties aesthetic but that's an approach to design, not a filter of what can be made.

I agree man, my above posts did have thinking along those lines. And even if it wasn't clear, I have been thinking along those lines.

The idea I came up with as a substitute for NVG had them being replaced by a perk. Say a certain creature in the game could see well in the dark. Say it bit you. Then say by some spiderman-esque mutation, you acquired a form of night vision. Bam. Night Vision Perk.

I like infrared vision, like Predator. Just less gay and more black and white. Just my thoughts.

Well The Elder Scrolls had a spell/enchantment called Nighteye that basically was night vision but in a blue hue. They could just change that to a green hue instead and carry it over to Fallout 4 and any future games. I think the issue we need to look at though is if it's game-breaking or not. If you can just walk around with these on in the darkness and see your enemies but they can't see you, that gives you an edge, but we don't want too high of an edge (otherwise the game will be simply too easy). If they do something like the night vision has a weak energy source and will drain you of energy/microfusion cells/some sort of power source rather than being infinite, then it might be feasible to implement. I just don't want to be given an edge that there's no reason not to take. Implement it if it has consequences too.

Just have a torch on the end of the gun. It would scare the s*** out of me if I saw a Reaver charging up to me through a torch beam. And it would give that L4D 'trying to survive' feel.

I really hate using the search function...
I could vaguely remember that there was a confirmed mod for a weapon that added night vision but I can't find it...
Feels like not all new information get updated on the wikia. :(

I'd rather have a actual flashlight than the pip light or goggles. Flashlights make finding things in the dark more surprising than just being surrounded by a circle of light from the pipboy. Just a light like that of L4D would suffice.
