[REl] NMM to Wrye Bash Adapter

Post » Fri May 25, 2012 12:30 pm

Is there a way to use NMM just to download mods and track them (for updates) without it going near actually installing them?
Yep. I have it set up so that NMM downloads straight to my "Bash Installers" folder. Just change the "Mod Directory" in your NMM settings.

PSS: Is it safe for me to assume that I can change back the NMM settings to default if I have no use for Wrye Bash? And whenever I want to make a new Bash patch I just change the settings back?
As far as I know, if you don't want to use Bash for installing mods, just use NMM with default settings and you can still use Bash to create the patch. I would not recommend to change the NMM settings too often, it might cause loss of meta data (eg., which mods are installed).

Altaya,
thanks for your report. I will keep it in mind when I'm working on the adapter again. I first have to finish my master's thesis, though, so it might take a while :|

The "Skyrim Mods" folder is only created once you start Wrye Bash for the first time.

Window pops up: Would you like to close NMM after Skyrim starts?
hm, what about that .. I click no
These things were different when I wrote the readme. Updated.

As for the latest Patch to the Game. Will this change anything regarding your tool?

I have not yet installed the new patch and I′m waiting for NMM and Wrye Bash to be updated so they support the new Load-Order System. I also refrain from trying out new mods until that happens.

So, will your tool function after Wrye and NMM have been updated or will you also have to change something?

Greetings,
Altaya

As long as NMM doesn't change they way it internally stores mod data, everything should work fine.

NMM 15.x now requires validation of the game installation path (called skyrim directory in the config), so that pretty much makes the tool unuseable until a workaround is found.

You may be able to just install NMM 14.2 (in addition to the current version) to a different directory and use it only for conversion purposes, as long as different versions don't share the same config files it should work.

Can you find out how it does that check? Maybe it just checks for tesv.exe or something like that.

Ok turns out version 0.15.14 doesn't even let me change the skyrim path. So for now this tool is officially broken.

Thats bad :( I still haven′t updated the game but seems to me I′ll do all my mod installing with Wrye Bash now and I′ll just install NMM and put the mods in there so I can check their versions. I′ll also use a different again for the NMM folder because I almost always repack mods these days before adding them to Wrye Bash.
I′ll only have to use NMM for mods that dont provide instructions for manual installation.

Mayber we′ll see some version check function in Wrye Bash some day.

Still wanted to thank you again for the tool !

Hi, i've ran into a problem. and i'm not sure if its this tool or the mod.

I'm trying to install http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=7654 - Realistic Lighting With Customization, and after the install windows finish when i activate it in NMM it says that it failed to install.

I'm using 0.14.2 NMM so i know its not the version incompatibility problem.
