Even if they were appeasing to a certain fanbase with the choise of Obsidian, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't say it out loud. What would "their" fans think if they'd find out one group is getting that much of a privilege?

I don't care whether they chose them for the shear number of inflatable farm animals they brought to the negotiations table..

I'm just glad they're on board :)

Yeah, so what's so incredible about the article? Obsidian still has some guys that worked on the first two, NWN 2 is still a good game and Chris f'n Avellone is there. It's enough. "Wow, Beth didn't choose Obsidian to please some guys that didn't like F3!". Whatever.

Yeah, me too. I wouldn't even be interested if they weren't. I didn't care much for Fallout 3.

Although, if Obsidian were chosen for the number of inflatable farm animals they brought to the negotiations table..
I wonder how many that would have to be..

But, that would be classified under business to business confidentiality. Strickly need to know, that sort of thing..

I don't need to know why they tapped a talented group of people with an old connection to the franchise, I just appreciate that they did, and hope it turns into a long-term business relationship.

I liked Beth's way of gameplay and everything but now that Obsidian is on the board and they know how to do good story, dialogue, etc., Fallout: New Vegas will be great.

I would imagine that this would have more to do with the legal disputes over Interplay/Obsidian still being able to sell Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics even though gamesas had pretty much bought the franchise (an issue because people who were new to the series from FO3 started buying the older games to get a sense of history). Working together would probably ease any legal issues on the matter and serve to be in the best interest of both companies.

i think obsidian went after them, not the other way around. whatever the case if obsidian is using bethesda's sandbox worlds with realt time combat combined with their own bioware/black isle style then only good things can occur.....as long as lucasarts is no where hear the damn thing

Gah - It really doesn't matter Why Bethesda chose Obsidian to work the follow-up to Fo3, we should simply be grateful for the fact that it happened.

To have Obsidian do New Vegas is Good Business, pure and simple.

I think anyone can see through this. Pete needs to train his fu. Why write a newsbit about it anyway? It's like saying you don't open a bakery only for people who prefer whole wheat.

It's even better when you consider that a Bethesda PR parrot is speaking for an Obsidian game.

He can't even provide rational explanations for anything, e.g. karma.

If i had my druthers Bethesda would continue to create the mainline Fallout franchise (Fallout 3, 4, 5, etc...) and allow Obsidian to continue creating games (1 per numbered release) dealing with the Western Wastelands.

This would allow me to get double the Fallouty goodness, would please both the Beth-Fallout and Inter-Fallout fans, and would also allow me to get my next dose of the Elder Scrolls rather soon.
Despite the problems i had with Fallout 3 i enjoyed the hell out of it. I don't think one can really condemn a game when hes spent in excess of 250 hours in the game world. If the sum of its parts werent rather enjoyable i wouldn't have spent all that time in the Vanilla and DLC Capital Wastes.

That said i hope to see a lot more from Bethesda (they cant push crap out quick enough for me, i want that crack) and can't wait to see what Obsidian brings to the table. If it does well i'd love to see them sit at the table with Mr. Hines and Paguliarulo (i cant spell but the simplest of names) and all the other people who make up Bethesda for seconds.

Yes the developers arent too concerned with a handful of hardcoe nuts when they have a global smash hit game on their hands.

Games keep evolving or they end up being a one trick pony.
Im sure the games in the future will have a different setup to the current games.

Making a shooter out of an RPG is hardly evolution.

Evolution is like refining an RPG's elements. Like say, I improve the interface, dialogue, and combat in a sequel. That's evolution. Changing the genre is not evolution.

That's not really fair though is it?

As much as i would have loved Fallout 3 to be Isometric Turn Based Bethesda purchased the rights and decided to make the game in the form they are strongest with. Granted it might be a RPG-lite it was their first shot at creating a game in a new universe. Fallout 4 will no doubt learn from the mistakes made in Fallout 3 and the positives and negatives that come to light with Fallout: New Vegas. I was crestfallen at first to see what Fallout had become, but i spent around 250 hours in the Capital Wastes and enjoyed at least 85% of that time.

When I read the topic title, I thought Obsidian was rumored to have been fired from New Vegas over fan backlash. Which would have made me happy.

Personally, I don't care if a few people at Obsidian worked on the original Fallouts. All I care about is Obsidian is the company that did Knights of the Old Republic 2 and Neverwinter Nights 2, which means you couldn't pay me enough to get Fallout: New Vegas.
