Option to turn off the protagonists voice

Post » Thu Dec 03, 2015 2:05 am

So will I be able to play the game with a voiceless protagonist or am I stuck with generic mcgenerico?

I'd prefer to be able to just play without it and use my imagination.

I'm not looking for Bethesda shills to descend on the thread and starts gushing about how Todd can do no wrong, just an honest answer.

I think we're stuck with Mr. Joe Everyman for our voice. Which svcks.

After having seen enough leaked footage I'm not a fan of at least the male protagonist's low-quality acting and lack of emotion in any regard an so now wouldn't mind being able to turn his off, but my best guess is that we'd have to use the audio settings and turn off all voices unfortunately until a mod comes out with turns off just the protagonist's. I haven't seen anything otherwise.

Thanks for the answers.

Yeah that svcks, I like to play a varied lot and use my imagination so that's kinda disappointing. The female voice actor does sound better but she doesn't really fit my nonviolent scientist/doctor style.

One of the many problems in modern gaming today: People have gotten so lazy, they can't even be bothered to imagine a voice for their characters anymore.

It should be exceedingly easy to mod this out of the game.

Uh, let's not jump to conclusions, shall we? It's not as if people were clamoring for a voiced protagonist.

You mean like imagining voices in your head? That...sounds...scary.

Considering how much time and money it would have cost to have the voices done, I suspect they won't be giving an option just to turn it off.

Another mod someone will probably make, remove the voice and the text for it so it skips over that line, you already see what the character is going to say in the choices anyway, they don't need to repeate it <_<

Fallout isn't the super roleplay game you want it to be where you sit and talk to yourself. It's for everyone now. I'm a huge Fallout fan and thinks a voiced protagonist is great in every way!

the pacification thing he does is very annoying after a while. Which is kind of odd.*

but honestly otherwise I'm not annoyed by his voice.

*I thought his constant comments about not being able to lockpick/hack something would get old but then I got used to the "Need more rage" my tanks were always going on about in Wow. (kind of why Im surprised how annoying his comments to Mutants and Ghouls became)

Seems like it would be an easy mod. In a situation like this, it's much easier to take away than add.

Personally, it doesn't seem to fit the "do anything, be anyone" mantra that a lot of Bethesda titles carry. But only time will tell if that is true.

That's why I never liked how they introduced voices into RPG's. Past RPG's without voice support (speaking Morrowind) forced you to read, so a voice in your head was already given.

lol, I know you're excited to play but please dial it back a couple dozen notches. You almost sound like a marketer.

Not trying to down on positive stuff, it just comes off a bit cartoonish. It's funny.

Well, have a good laugh. I'm sure there will be a mod to fulfill your wishes soon enough.

Well to each their own i guess, am sure there will be a mod around to make protagonist silent fast enough(for the people that like to play it that way), for me i prefer voiced protagonists so i hope they stick with it in the future. I mean sure original Fallouts didnt have it but games have evolved since than and i for one am glad they decided for fully voiced protags this time around.

For those who prefer old school, I hope a mod for silencing the protagonist comes out for you. As for me, I have adapted both ways where this feature does not bother much. As long the game itself is enjoyable, a voiced PC is minor for me.

I'm gonna go ahead and say it. If you hate it so bad, then wait for the new creation kit to release. Make a mod that either replaces the voice, OR remove it, instead of making a whole new thread that's been repeated multiple times.

I'm personally hit and miss with it. I don't mind a voiced character. I don't mind an unvoiced character. I mind when people can't cope with a change.

I'm a big fan of voiced protagonists in RPG's though I wouldn't be against a toggle for it however Bethesda may not have had the time or maybe the money investment in a voiced protagonist made a toggle an unsavoury idea for the devs. Mods will probably add a toggle if need be anyway.

Also calling someone a marketer for simply having a different more positive opinion on one of the design directions Bethesda took with fallout 4 doesn't paint you in a favourable light.
