Outfit should matter

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 2:32 pm

Does anyone else agrees...I think that outfit you wear should affect the way everyone interacts with you..ie thives guild armor---> guards want to arrest you (hides your identity)
dark brotherhood armor----> guards want to kill you(hides your identity)
And so on.....What are your opinions on this

Or for crying out loud, the Stormcloaks should probably start to attack me immediately when I wear my imperial armor and imperial sword. It would also be cool if you were to wear fancy clothes and that guy Nazeem in Whiterun would treat you like a noble.

Well in reality if yo were spotted by the stormcloaks in imperial armor, they would probably cut your head off....Just sayin'

YEs that was dissapointing...I walk past a stormcloak that is yelling about how he would chop an imperials head of if he saw one just as I pass him in my legionnaire armor...

Yeah, I am a little disappointed that faction armor didn't make it into Skyrim. That was one aspect of New Vegas that I really enjoyed.

But them, I'm not sure there's much point to it, given how poor Skyrim's reputation system is. The closest you can get to being on a faction's bad side is having a bounty in one of the Holds. I mean, you could join the Imperials, seize several Holds, then waltz into Windhelm as if nothing had happened.

NPC reactions would be nice, but I prefer if clothing gave you some bonuses. Blacksmiths Apron +5 to smithing and an ekstra ore if you mine in Miners Clothing, and so on.

Agreed, same problem goes to race identification, at least some more reactions from NPCs would be nice, gives more motivation to be certain race/wear certain armor or clothing.

I mean you walk into town dressed in Nightingale armor, an everyone's okay with that. Wearing that armor makes you look like some evil creature..BE SCARED BE VERY SCARED...It should have the same effect as being a lev 4 vampire (i'm not but I hear you get attacked on every corner) That's awesome...

Actually if you wore stormcloak armor in an imperial town the guards would just say "I respect your opinions even though i may not agree with them". Imperials are no barbarians.

New Vegas wasn't from Bethesda ;) So they couldn't put it in.

But would be nice also i don't think they should kill you for wearing a dark brotherhood robe. I mean, you enter a town and get killed....how do you want to solve any Quest if they kill you all the time? Or do you want to kill the whole town? Then you still can't do Quests because everyone is dead.

The point of being a dark broterhood assasin is stealth...If they see you they attack....Ditch the guards and execute the target...The guards will naturally pursue you again, but if you change your outfit before they see you after the execution they just ignore you...

They can't put it in because they didn't invent it? Damn, bethesda must remove all skeletons and giants from the game because they didn't make them. Also remove all weapons because they didn't invent swords and stuff.

I was saddened that people recognised me wearing outfits that showed No skin at all- how could anyone recognise me?

For some reason, I don't think that has anything to do with it. I don't think Obsidian has that idea copyrighted or anything. They just didn't feel like including it.

Probably the devs didnt want people complaining "OH SO I CAN'T WEAR XX INTO TOWN NOW? LACK OF FREEDOM" Though it would be fun for clothes to affect reactions :D

I agree. Sadly the mod that makes that work in Oblivion resets your disposition to NPCs every few seconds, so not only is it useless to engage in conversation, but it also slowed down the game. Pretty useless.

Totally. It's a lot of work to properly include something like that though.

Morrowind had clothing restrictions and NPC reactions based on what you wore. Some of the best reactions were when you took all your characters clothes off. Though the reactions needed a mod to fully unlock as for some reason the best files were not active in the vanilla game. However, with mid skill values, clothing made a real difference with how the NPCs interacted. I agree that the balance is hard to get, but it can be done.

What are your opinions on this

I agree and this is something I've always wanted from RPGs. New Vegas did it well, but it could have been better. There was a mod for Fallout 3 which did this particularly well if I recall correctly so I know it's not a matter of impossibility it's just s matter of implementation. I don't understand why any RPG designer wouldn't implement such a thing. You go to all the trouble to design these different bits of clothing and armor and for what? Enchantments? Just to look pretty? Come on. Let's give a little utility to them!

Bethesda owns Fallout. Bethesda let Obsidian make it, and Beth published it. Therefore, Bethesda should have used it.

I'm with you there. It's ridiculous to be on the side of the Imperials and when you enter Windhelm it looks as if it was the first time you visited. People talk to you like you had nothing to do with the Legion and still greet you warmly.
