PCGamer Dawnguard review score: 59

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 5:48 pm

Nearing level 36, and I finally got a random vamp attack in Whiterun...One master vamp and two dogs. No friendly casualties.

And it happened with no fast travel, etc. Wahoo...

you're like killing the argument of the possibility of a too frequent or too overwhelming vampire bug in dawnguard lol.

You're like me with McDonalds. So many sueing for making them fat and that supersize me video etc

Then you have me. Grew up eating it all the time, 5"7' 120 pounds struggling to gain more weight xD

LeBurns, i agree with your opinion of the rp options of skyrim, its why i cant play it as much as i did morrowind and oblivion.

skyrim is nice to look at with its overhauled graphics engine, and physics but other then those 2 things its bland and hard to have a proper character concept function past the first few hours. some concepts just cant work, like a fur armored dual wielding melee fighter. good luck to you playing that character without lowering the diffidulty to easy, but in oblivion it was easier to play those characters and do what you want. i play d&d so i use elderscrolls to play a videogame version of that game, skyrim svcks for that simply put, and this is one reason why they lost a die hard fan from 2000-2012, i dont think i will be purchasing any more of these games because fo the focus shift from RP based, and open optioned character choices ( like thrown weapons in ES3, man i want those back), to a FPS that removes the roleplay aspects for letting more non RPG experienced people purchase these games.

59/100 isn't a bad score. Anything above 50 is okay really. You cannot justify Dawnguard being a 100 tbh. It's not a revolutionary DLC, but it does throw some fun stuff in like Xbows, perk trees for vamps/weres, and fletching.

Please tell me you're joking. 59 IS above average!

He must be one of those people who has a rating scale that goes from 70-95.

I have to agree as well. Skyrim just falls flat in so many areas. I can play it for a couple of hours but I quickly get bored with it. I never had that problem with Oblivion, even with the over use of level scaling. Don't get me wrong, I don't outright hate Skyrim but Skyrim has significant flaws that really hurt the game long term. Dawnguard doesn't help as it's more of the same with maybe a couple new toys that don't solve the major issues that the game has.

No. If you got a 5/10 on a test at school, would you have been happy?
Of course not. It doesn't change the fact that anything between 40 and 60% is average - see normal distribution. On a scale from 1 to 100, scores above 90 should be rare and scores ~50 common. If it's any different, there's something wrong with the ratings - and in fact this is the situation we're dealing with today, when reviewers dread to rate a well-known developer any lower than 80 even if the game is mediocre.

There's nothing wrong with average. Some games are terrible, some are outstanding, most of them fall in between. It should be reflected in the ratings. Yes, Bethesda can't be satisfied with a 6/10 score - then again, players are not entirely satisfied with Dawnguard either, so maybe the score is not so far-fetched.

59 = don't buy this. 59 is a terrible score. An average game would get 75.

I've played a decent amount of games with middle scores and been entertained.

I agree with everyone else. Around 60 just means nothing breath taking.

It didn't get a 20 xD

Look at rottentomatoes ratings for movies. Almost all the movies hit low or medium scores.

Dawnguard deserves score 90 - it is smaller than Tribunal, Bloodmoon, Shivering Isles, but I enjoyed it more.

I feel 60-65 is about right for me, I enjoyed it but it didn't wow me or anything of the sort due to the fact that I an alot of other people thought that what dawnguard features offer should of been in the base game, but hey they need to make more money somehow right?

Come on Todd where's the dlc/expansions you promised would have alot of meat on? Seems like rabbit meat atm lol

I thought the scale went 0-100? Though it does seem for many it goes 50-100, with scores below 50 reserved for games like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mB1zWEhgrLs :lmao:

The general consensus is that the game actually does fit a 50-65 rating which isn't a big gap.

Seems most people are agreeing with the score actually.

I do not regret purchasing Dawnguard and Im fine with the price too.

Aside from the main Dawnguard questlines there are also other new features added that I would be reluctant to give up.
The ability to smith arrows and bolts and dragon weapons, crossbows, better dragons, new and more dangerous enemies such as types of Falmer, Chaurus and Spriggans, extention of the in-game fast travel network. All features much requested by fans.

Also, Dawnguard added the miscellanious quest I enjoy the most in Skyrim, Lost to the Ages.

I agree. It added a lot more than just the main DG plot. I remember going into a Falmer cave a few hours after starting a new character with the DG DLC and had a chaurus hunter burst from its cocoon for the first time.I had been delving into Falmer caves since the game launched so I thought I knew what to expect. I had no idea that they had added that new enemy into the game and it startled me. That moment alone made DG worth it for me. It added an unknown element to an area I had been to many times before and got me excited for what was to come.
