I already addressed this issue in an earlier post I made. The people at Bethesda (Zenimax) can't make responsible business decisions based on hope or assumptions. Saying something was "slated for success" is an assumption. Kingdoms of Amalur was convincing enough of a project for Rhode Island to loan it 90 million dollars. Irresponsible mismanagement will kill a company like 38 studios. Bethesda is being responsible by taking early exclusivity money before Skyrim launched.
Again, I feel like I'm just wasting my words because no one wants to hear facts, everyone just wants to complain about why they aren't playing DLC yet. I am not trying to defend Bethesda or exclusivity rights, but there seem to be so many confused people here who can't understand why these kinds of deals happen. You are all participating in a hundred billion dollar industry and your contribution to that industry is sixty dollars each. You all should have a realistic understanding of how the hobby you participate in works.
While I totally agree with most of what you say. I have to add, and I'm sure you'll agree, they are completely irresponsible and unprofessional in communicating with their user base. From reading the posts here they have successfully alienated a lot of the people they need to continue a viable business.
You've hit the nail squarely on the head with irresponsible mismanagement, in Bethesda's case this seems to be in the choice of selecting the people responsable for issuing PR statements, or those withholding even general information regarding the release. It may be a hundred billion dollar industry and sixty dollars may not be a great deal in that context, but sixty dollars going to another company is sixty dollars not invested in yours. Add enough of those together and bankruptcy results, alienating your customers is a sure fire way to get there.
Bethesda just have to say you'll get it when it's finished or when it ready, or for that matter you're not getting it, why do they have to be so obnoxious by staying silent, or issuing statements which say nothing relevent at all.
