Perks screen: "Worst screen in the history of UIs"

Brilliant, let us see our character's ugly mug on most of the screen not the actual items we have in an inventory screen...
This is so much better

Good thing I don't have to hover over the other screens to see how many perks I've spent on it?

Who cares about perks anyway, they're the least important part of the game anyway. :bonk:

This is what it should be like IMO-

Obviously I just made this up in paint so it's rough, but you get the idea. Less wasted screen space, easier navigation with mouse, no need to scroll through several skills to reach the one you want.

Oh come on..The perk screen is def not the worst UI mistake they made.

I can actually kinda see the appeal of it at least, yanno, someone smoking the smelly green stuff and thinking "Hey bro, you know what would be mad cool..Like, looking at the galaxy and seeing this entire solar system of skills laid out, and you′d go like, look up and then spec into the [censored]in STARS brah..[censored] yeh" And then pass out.

The rest of the UI on the other hand is just o O, I′m not a hater but I honestly hope they fired the guy. Too bad Todd himself seemed pretty hyped about being able to see all objects in your inventory in FULL 3D :spotted owl:

Ey, least they know how to plug the game and so far for me, the +′s still by far outshine the -′s

TL:DR Don′t believe the hype it′s just a sequel.

It *is* too easy to completely miss a perk you tried to navigate to and jump to a completely different skill at the same time, so yeah that part needs some changing.

I like the UI and I don`t see what`s wrong with the perk tree. It`s all there available to you, pretty simple.

You guys just want to pick out every little fault in this game. I have no problem with the screen. It looks pretty and I'm only on the screen for a minute at most each time I level up. Not to mention I have no trouble navigating or anything you are mentioning.

Seriously guys just stop picking out every little tiny thing that doesn't even affect gameplay in any way.

Oh my god the UI is the biggest load of QQ'ing I have ever heard in my life.

Poor babies have to do a little bit of scrolling on a fast moving menu.

Sorry if I -don't- have sympathy for spoiled players.

I find it funny that these "hardcoe" RPG'ers talk about the "ADD console players", but these "hardcoe" players are the first ones who gripe about having to do a little bit of SCROLLING.

This is probably my favorite UI of any game I've ever played.

This is very true.

However people actively defending the UI (mainly on PCs) clearly have not been playing a game with a worthwhile UI for the past 20 years.
There is loads that Bethesda could have improved without a lot of effort, yet people claim it's "no big deal" and that the UI is "one tiny portion of the game" when it's clearly not...

The stupidity of some people is baffling.

Now I'll tell you what I think could be improved about the perk tree. (Please note that the perk tree is basicly the most user-friendly portion of the entire UI)
There's one thing that really needs to be changed here in my opinion: make scrolling through perks faster. When you want to go from the from a stealth perk to a perk between magic/combat it's absolutely horrendous to go through the rest of the perks that bloody slowly.

5 seconds to scroll to any perk from another is sooooooooooooooooooooo hard.

The only issue I have with the menu system is that when I press the button B I expect the game to back a step, not leave the menu all together. For example you choose a tree to look at and then you press A to examine it further and to go back to the selection part you have to keep moving the direction downward. However, I naturally want to press B to go backwards and whenever I accidently press the button it closes the perk screen entirely.
I do this with almost all the menu systems in the game - Including Alchemy, Enchanting, Smithing and inventory.

This is my ONLY issue. I think that the system is visually stunning and certainly a step up from Oblivion.

anyone who finds that this perk menu is so bad it almost ruins the game, is way too lazy. why does everything always have to be easily accessible, oh no, boo hoo I have to scroll sideways to find my perk. would you prefer a dropdown list thats alphabetical and optimized for idiots. this is a single player game that you should take your time with, why are you all in such a hurry. relax, take your time look at all the perks, enjoy the art that has been lovingly hand crafted to inspire your imagination, instead of some user friendly list that would ruin immersion.

My only issue with the UI I have ever had is sometimes when I talk to a shop NPC and open the shop I will click a category and the shop just closes. I however found that using the wasd keys works to open menus and I can continue to click on items I want in each sub-menu.

Yeah, instead we should just swallow anything Bethesda gives us and not give them any feedback at all. That sure will help in future games.

Also we should never ever expect a major company as Bethesda to ever release a good PC UI.

Its not hard, but the fact that someone sat down and thought "Yes, this seems like a good thing UI-wise" is downright baffling.

It's a direct console port, what did people expect? (The menu that is)

I can't imagine this thing being fun to use on a console either, but maybe it is! Having a simple list of what perks you have access to, or hell a way to zoom out to get a nice overview of the entire tree! Is that too much to ask!?

I give props to the new perks menu. I think its BA and really cool to look at. I play on the 360 since I never wanted to go back to the PC after daggerfall. I originally bought the 360 solely for opting for a controller to jam on with Oblivion back in the day.

Agreed..And yes, I am playing on PC as well.

As I said before, no offence cause I′m sure he′s a cool guy n stuff in general but I think the UI guy should be fired for delivering a totally crap job, he prolly went all out on the solar system and then was screwed with a deadline to deliver..There are many reviews and posts here pointing that out already.

On the other hand, why not make our own? One of THE great things about any TES game has always been the editor and the modding community behind it and because of that AND the very fact I′m on a PC I can′t say I′m all too worried.

The most important thing for me is if the very basis is cool and works, the rest can be fixed ;]

Peace out.

I play on ps3 and the menu is just as crappy there...

Yup, like I said, a bunch of QQ'ing.

A bunch of spoiled gamers crying because they have to do a little bit of scrolling, and then turn around and insult the "ADD console gamers" for this change - yet these are the gamers who are too lazy and spoiled to do a little scrolling. Who has ADD???
You know that only one other user has mentioned 'ADD Console gamers' and their post was deleted. Also, the complaint isn't that you have to scroll, rather that there were many other ways of Beth to do this, but they chose this way. As the above images said, they could've put the items at the top rather than the bottom, or maybe have had them in a banner of sorts across the top.

The perk screen is fine, you whiners, and I find it to be a breath of fresh air from the played out perk systems out there (squares to click on). My one friend was actually awestruck the first time he saw it while I was playing.

"Oh my god, that's beautiful." I think those were his exact words.

Sounds like it's working as intended.

It's not very good on the console either.

Dude, it′s a [censored]in gadget, yanno, trinkets you bring to the natives to distract them from what you′re actually after.

Who cares tho.. Like I stated above and yesh, this sounds selfish but the fact I′m on PC and we′ll get an editor soon makes me not too worried about these sorta things.

100% serious.

I'm on the 360, so I can't speak for the clunkiness of the PC version. But yeah, on the 360 it's a welcome change.
