Poll - Ride a Dragon

Post » Thu Nov 08, 2012 11:43 am

I'm in the "Not sure" camp leaning toward "Yes". I will wait to see how they are implemented. Come to think of it, it would be fun to fly a dragon to the Throat of the World, instead of trudging up 7,000 steps.

I'm going to wait and see for myself. It looks interesting, but I'm worried its going to make Skyrim seem tiny.

As long as they add sufficient story to make it all tie into the plot as it is now I can't see anything wrong with it at all. I am hoping its free to fly anywhere I want but I am starting to think this won't happen.

Voted "I can't care less", and "I don't want to ride a dragon".

Simply put, I won't use the feature if it's optional, but I'm happy for the people who wanted it.

Honestly, this is the only thing about the dlc I don't like so far. It just doesn't feel right to me.

I don't like the idea of flying on a dragon. Not in the least wee bit. I'll be totally ignoring it, if at all possible.

Riding dragons is just a terrible idea imo. Its one thing to happen at a couple certain scripted events, but to ride dragons at will [or even only after defeating them perhaps] seems like a fantasy setting i'd rather not explore.

Also, I'd like to point out that someone tried a levitating mod and set their speed equal to that of a flying dragon's, and the resulting trip through skyrim lenghtwise took little more than 30 seconds. Not only is that ridiculous, but it cant be healthy for our world loading. Just a thought.

Oh, and I realize I dont have to ride dragons if I dont want to. To each his own they say.

I don't care, we're going back to Solstheim.

This is also my reaction to the "there is another dragonborn" main quest.

The fast travel system already does that somewhat, hence why I personally try to avoid using it.

Right now, I'm unsure. I always said from the start that I was glad dragon riding wasn't in Skyrim. It kills a certain element to the game. The fear factor, the sense of adventure & the scale of the world. But with the announcement of the DLC I've opened my mind a bit. At the moment I am still a bit against it, but not to the stage that I'm going to complain. We'll have to wait and see, simple as. They could pull it off well, really well.

As for the restrictions on them - If we are getting dragon riding, we might as well get the full experience. As long as there are no technical problems involved, I don't see why there should be any restrictions on where and when you can ride a dragon.

If we could ride flying mounts, I would always prefer to fly to my destination over fast traveling.
Just to be clear, a scripted fast traveling animation of a dragon flight would svck. I do actually mean manually flying to my destinations.

I voted for Yes, I want to ride a Dragon.
I would prefer some decent story writing above the concept of Dragon riding any day, but I don't think the idea of Dragon riding is that bad.
Also, I would want to ride the Dragon everywhere, but I expect it is possible only in its own worldspace. There were already hints in the source code for that.
So voted that option.

I honestly see absolutely no downside to dragon riding, and I think it will be awesome  (if, of course, it isn't filled with bugs). People say the dragons shouldn't be treated as pets as they are ancient and noble creatures, and I agree with this, but in most actual fantasy, such as the Inheritence Cycle (can't wait to rp as Eragon !), the rider and dragon are considered equals (the only places where ridable dragons are thought of as pets are in crappy children's books and Disney movies). To those who say it will take away the danger of Skyrim, I didn't realize that riding bareback on a giant, fire-breathing, flying lizard hundreds of feet above the ground in a sky that's already filled with loads of other, less friendly giant, fire-breating lizards, flying lizards was considered safe. Also, if you still don't want dragon riding, then just don't use it. I hate the glitch that people use with the Oghma Infinitum, so I just used the book the way it was meant to be used instead of complaining that it should be taken out.

The game is all about being a dragonborn and the return of dragons so if all that's happening being a dragonborn and the return of dragons you would think that you could ride them so Bethesda you should add dragon riding like riding a horse just flying

My reaction to the trailer was mostly this. However, I'm not sure about the dragon riding...I mean sure, I think for the people that want it, that's good, but I hope they make a believable story as to why a dragon would let the player ride on him, seeing how they're such a proud race. I also think that they need to do something about how the dragons always mindlessly attack the player after the main quest is over, instead of respecting the player's Thu'um and/or fearing for their lives like they should in most cases.

Looking at some of the recent discussions, I'm a little puzzled. I get the impression that some anti-dragonmount folks are actually reacting to how flying around works out in some other games. Is it pertinent to this game to care about those?

It will probably end up being gimmicky.

But it'll still be cool to get the opportunity to fly a dragon. Especially if it's implemented well, and not simply tacked on like some last minute addition.

The only reason I like Dragon Mounts is because it take me back to http://content.answcdn.com/main/content/img/amg/games/drg100/g124/g124386eo2d.jpg.

I also don't really see the problem with flying in wow, yes it takes away some of the excitement, but also the frustration of having to fight your way to and from quest locations.
My only fear is that the controls will be bad, remember the avatar game, the lizards you was flying was hopeless as in it was very hard decreasing, intuitive its so simple as aiming downward and move however they used some up and down buttons but you decent slowly and had to move forward to go down.

I think the best way is that the quest to mount a dragon is very hard. So mount it will be rewarding and you, for that point have played a lot and feeled the game. Like how it was to get the set of daedric armor in morrowind. Very very hard... but once you got it, you were a f**n god !

What I wanna know is how BGS solved the problem of rapid loading of so many exterior cells. Flight mods for Skyrim have been notorious for crashing the game because of the sheer number of exterior cells that get loaded as you fly about. And that's on a PC, with more robust hardware.
