-2DT for standard ammo
-5DT for Overcharge ammo
-10DT for Max Charge ammo

Plasma Defender uses 2 cells instead of 3 per shot
Multiplas Rifle uses 3 cells instead of 6 per shot.

I modded those into my game, and it indeed makes a difference.

With a high crit chance build, the gatling laser was already really good because of how many crits you could roll out in seconds. Now, the gatling laser is going to be an absolute powerhouse with Max Charge ECP.

I am going to try a really heavy energy related weapons character.
I'll post updates on how it turns out.

Energy weapons are much better. My guy is a gun character with an energy skill of 22. Previously a laser pistol took three shots on average to kill a coyote. Now one shot is killing/turning them to ash. Went through REPCONN HQ last night and found the Q-35. One shot gooed the third floor face recog bots. Played around with plasma earlier and didn't like the slow shots and low damage. It is much better now. May make Buck Rogers.

When the patch hits for the PC, I'll report back on how the changes were. My guy has a high crit build for energy weapons, should be interesting.

Anyone found/tried the Tesla-Beaton Prototype Cannon? That's pretty cool, if a little heavy on ammo usage. :)

Definitely when I get the patch on my 360.

Indeed, recharger pistol + fiend territory = good supply of energy ammos.
But I really want to know if the Recharger rifle got any major improvment with this patch, because right now, it's probably the weakest EW in game, which is kinda strange for a rifle.

I currently have Max Charge ammo modded to give -15DT, and while using it even the lower-tier EW do well, however I have to have a high Science skill to make it since it isn't sold anywhere. I am tempted to keep the mod active even after the patch comes to PC, since AP ammo for Guns weapons has -15DT.

While I like the two ammo use changes, I feel they do not go far enough to keep EW competitive with Guns. I ended up greatly reducing overall ammo consumption for EW, especially the Tesla weapons and Gauss Rifles. 5 cells for one shot, or 45 for the TCs, was ridiculous compared to similar Guns weapons, which use 1 bullet per shot for similar damage. Now, you can get lots of free EW ammo from the BoS if you make nice with them, but Guns ammo is so much more plentiful it's not even funny. On the other hand EW ammo is far easier to convert between types, however I am not sure that is a sufficient counter.

I will have to try another EW character after the patch comes to PC and see how the -DT on the other two ammo types works before I can really decide if it's enough, but I have a feeling that without my modded ammo use rates it would still be insufficient.

A Laser Pistol vs. a Coyote wouldn't be affected by the patch because coyotes don't have any DT and the patch just adds DT reduction effects to EW ammo according to the undetailed changelog that's out. You were just getting critical hits (that's what causes them to disintegrate into ash piles.)

The worst part is that it's extremely difficult to find enough EW ammo to even get a decent amount of it in order to make the over/max charge ammo.

Boy, when J.E. Sawyer admitted to being biased against EWs he wasn't lying.

With the patch most energy weapons deal more damage[the wiki isn't updated yet], in addition to ammo's built in DT. But really basing energy weapons off the laser pistol is like basing guns off a 9mm. Now just because you CAN make max charge ammo doesn't mean you should. Overcharged ammo will deal an additional 25% damage and ignore 5 points of DT, You don't need max charged ammo against most foes, aside from deathclaws its probably overkill.

You obviously don't have the patch yet, energy weapons and ammo are a bit more common. Of course if you want to cheat, the brotherhood glitch wasn't fixed so technically there is an unlimited amount of free ammo.

Well after getting the PC patch just now, I can see they lowered the damage of Max Charge rounds to balance out the addition of -10 DT.

Appears so, but the damage of every EW I have found has gone up as well.

I've made a mod that changes Energy weapons to be a more useful skill. Among other things it makes it easier to recycle ammo, makes the Meltdown perk not damage you and tweaks the various damage settings. Link in my sig.
