Absolutely Disappointing.

We don't have to wait. Fallout: New Vegas required Steam. I modded the crap out of it, and absolutely nothing bad happened when the game updated.

THE ONLY THING STEAM AFFECTS WHEN IT COMES TO MODDING IS THE FILE DIRECTORY.

Quite right...
The only game I've ever had a problem with Steam auto-update was Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines - only because Troika went bust after the 1.2 update, so the community has been patching it for the past 6 years. Steam likes to revert back to the Troika 1.2 version if you let it

Steam is without question, hands down, 100% the greatest thing that has happened to PC gaming since PC gaming was invented. At this point if your not on steam you are technically not even a gamer. (thats my opinion).

I don't know about that now. Introducing account-based DRM is kind of a bummer if you ask me, and us singleplayer dudes don't really use the community features it offers as recompense. You don't need Steam to have digital downloads. I much prefer the GOG and Gamersgate style of digital downloads, simple files you download just like an MP3.

There are some things about PC Skyrim that I'm not willing to let Bethesda off the hook for just yet (numpad binding issue, inconsistent PC UI behavior), but the underlying game is absolutely [censored] stellar.

Re: Steam: What Steam has done for PC gaming is phenomenal. Look at the back catalog of stuff available via Steam. Look at all of the indie studios trying to push their way into the mainstream, who distribute mainly through Steam because of the costs of production of DVDs, and the dwindling, expensive amounts of B&M shelf space available for their wares.

It could have been much, MUCH worse... Skyrim could have been a GFWL release. Luckily for you and me, GFWL seems to be a turd floating in the bowl resignedly awaiting its flushing.

I don't hate Steam, I just hate that I'm forced to use Steam to install and play the game. I bought a hard copy. That makes this hard copy just as useless as a digital download if Steam goes bust or if the internet's out.

That's what you get for buying a console port. It's fine on PS3.

Oh dear, another unhappy PC gamer. Who would have guessed?

Go play The Witcher 2, then. It's one of the few decent games lately to be built for PC and not ported over from the more accessible and reliable systems.

Agreed with OP. Everyone else who posted here's comments are invalid. They don't know what they're talking about.

I would think that the comments of someone who can't even play the game on their ancient laptop would be invalid.

You're just griping in every anti-Skyrim thread because you're butthurt that it won't run on integrated chipsets.
