Gotta say, the idea that TES is trying to make another MMO is scary. As I recall, Battlespire was a multiplayer Elder Scrolls Story and flopped or at least disappeared. Hopefully, TES:O doesn't bury the series under its inevitable fail.
Reasons I Don't Want TES:O On Principal And Won't Play It:
1: It's online. I can't pay for or commit to almost any online games. MMOs are right out, being that I deploy.
2: It's "Like WoW!" This is the attitude the is akin to shooting most MMOs at the gate. While I hate WoW, I have noticed that most other MMOs have this need to sap WoW's player base and end up shooting themselves in the foot in the process. It kills any creativity with the system and the Lore ends up butchered to make allowances for the mechanics.
3: The draw to TES for me is the single player exploration. Guild Wars is the most tolerable MMO I've played because it emulates this style outside of the social hubs. I enjoy being able to explore on my own with personal control over my companions and what is added to my game.
4: Modding has made TES:III to TES:V much better than they were at release. TES:II is likely to have more modders once it is ported forward.
5: MMOs tend to bring about monotonous gameplay of a kind that is insufferable elsewhere. While some genre or sections of gaming have monotonous gameplay (Jumping puzzles in sidescrollers, halls of enemies in shooters and XP grinding in RPGs) MMOs tend to combine the worst of XP and Item grinding with competition of other players to get the prize (XP or Item).
6: Money. Gaming is low priority. I now have a child and don't have as much money for gaming. A $15 per month gaming bill with a $60 entry fee is unacceptable in the long run as it locks out me buying other games that I would enjoy.
