The Elder Scrolls Online: Ideas for Fan Interview Questions

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 7:16 pm

My main question is in relation to the combat mechanics, they already mentioned that the visceral first person style combat "didn't work" in an MMO setting (obviously because they never played Darkfall Online). I'm just curious how is the combat going to be tailored to appeal more towards TES fans who prefer reactionary gameplay as opposed to skill rotations?

If this thread will indeed be used to supply questions for a fan interview, they will use those questions that get asked the most.
Wrong. Just like all other MMO developers, if they use a thread like this they will hand pick out the questions that their PR Department allows them to answer and go from there. It won't be just because it is asked a lot it gets answered.

Deadric weapons and armors are widely known as the best equipment in Tamriel, only bested by Deadric Artifacts and a few unique weapons. How is this going to be handled with the new gameplay and the dungeon loots ? Are we going to have WoW-like sets where each dungeons give you a better set or armor/weapons, or are we going to have something more TES-like were Deadric gears really are the best kind of equipment while not being dungeon related, but stil really hard to craft, while dungeon loot are more like particular sets with a unique feel to them ?

This also make me ask this last question : In the lore there are particular provinces like Morrowind where deadric fortress/sanctuaries are extremely common, whereas lands like Skyrim where deadra are less common. How is this going to impact crafting and monster "balancing" in the different factions ?

My first question would have been "Seriuously, WTF?"

But, There is a way to be way more civil...

so:

"During the developement process there was any point when you considered creating the MMO using a first person view and the combat mechanicst of the latest Elder scrolls single player titles?"

The most important question of all for me - this determines if I play or not - will there be a first person play option? I can't releate to a character in third person - it's not "me".

Other questions (and bear in mind I approach this as a ES player since Daggerfall and a four year veteran of Lord of the Rings Online)

Can you choose who you quest with regardless of their race? I want to quest with some real life friends and they don't want to choose races in the same pact as me. Am I forever prevented from teaming up with the people I want to? Also I really want to explore the homeland of the Khajiit but I don't want to be one. Will I be prevented from going to certain areas because of my race? Please think carefully about the sort of limits you put on players. An MMO is about possibilities - not limits.

Will cities that were in Daggerfall (ie Sentinel) be anything like they were in Daggerfall in terms of size and layout (allowing for the fact the game does take place in a different time)?

Can you please make it so I can roll a light skinned, red haired Redguard? That's what Tamriel me looks like and I couldn't quite get me the way I wanted with the character creation options in Skyrim (the skin did not go light enough and the hair not red enough).

Will there be a lifetime sub option? I bought one in LOTR before they stopped doing them and they created a consistent, stable community of people who were in the game for the long term and there to help new players. An MMO lives and dies not only by the game itself but by the nature of the community.

Will there be pie?

Thankyou - Wenxue (Redguard of Sentinel) and Rosiebelle Rabbitbane, notable female dwarf of Middle Earth.

Will there be visceral feelings of animosity between the members of the alliances? Like Argonians begrudgingly allying with Dunmer or Redguards and Orsimer having surface tensions with one another?

I've seen a lot of assumption that race=faction around because the factions are grouped nationally. Is that true, or could I play a Nord in the Daggerfall Covenant?

The factions are race based. If you are Nord, Dunmer or Argonian, you are Pact. If you are Breton, Orsimer or Redguard, you are Covenant. If you are Alter, Bosmer or Khajiit, you are Dominion. If you are Imperial you...aren't playing.

The factions are nationally based, I saw nothing in the article that said specifically "all members of race A are faction B." I even gave another once-over before posting to make sure I didn't just miss it.

The quote is (transcribed from my copy of GI): "...the Nords, Dunmer (Dark Elves) and Argonians have formed the Ebonhart pact out of necessity...The Altmer (High Elves), Bosmer (Wood Elves) and Khajiit form the Aldmeri Dominion in the south and southwest...The Daggerfall Covenant, a democratic association between Bretons, Redguard, and Orcs..."

Hope it's okay that I quote the article without links or anything, but that's that quote.

Theoretically would it be possible to play this game just like any other Elder Scrolls game, not worrying about other people online? If I want to do that but in a co-op mentality with a friend or two, will I be able to? Even if that friend is part of another faction?

Can the player climb mountains? If not, is that because they are too steep or because there are invisible walls? Will I be able to jump over short fences? I basically just want to dike around like in any ES game, will I be able to?

1- will armor and weapon designs be "traditional" TES, as in like armors and weapons we find in MW OB and skyrim daggerfall ..etc!!! or are we gonna see power ranger armor and lazer/plazma massive skull 4 meter long swords!!! cause I loath that :P??!!

2-is a 1st person view even possible with the game engine (even if it won't be implemented I want to know if it was even viable)

3-will there be daily quests (PLZ don't do daily quests) !!!

4-will "raid" content be only seen by 1% of the player population (like in wow)

5-will gear grinding be the main goal of the game or the game play itself???

I know harsh questions but I really want to know.

Is it possible to move up in the Factions hierarchy? Like joining the Tribunal Temple, becoming an Ordinator, becoming a High Ordinator, and then finally a Hand of Almalexia?

and yes will we see the Bosmer "moving" giant tree city!!??

its a popular question it seems, and honestly it will be the most epic thing to see in a fantasy game.

Indeed it is. Another thing that I am sure is a major question on everyones minds is this.

Will the beast races and all their variations be in the game? Whether playable or as NPCs? Suthay-Raht or Argonian Nagas or Agacephs for example.

I will move my usual question from Skyrim dlc to here : "what is the chance of doing some moonsugar with the space Khajiit, and visiting the moons?"
Will skooma and moonsugar be in the game at all, or are even imaginary narcotics going to be cut so as not to rouse the likes of the FFA?

Will we get some larger information on the Great Houses of Morrowind - foir instance regarding the Telvannis capital Port Telvannis?

Daggerfall is hopefully still ruled by a king despite the Daggerfall Covenant being refered to as a democracy?

Question #1:
Are races set in their factions?

Question #2:
How do you envision guilds/groups/clans to work in this setting, provided that you focus on the identity of the larger factions...?

Question #3:
While you do not plan to add vampires and werewolves in the game yet, are there any plans to do so in the future...?

Question #4:
In one of the interviews, it was mentioned that two factions can gang up on another when it gets too powerful. Does this mean that we will see diplomacy featured in this MMO?

Question #5:
The title of 'Emperor' is given to the player who 'contributed' the most to the war effort to conquer the capital city. However, how do you measure this contribution...? Will the effort of guild-entities be rewarded...?

Question #6:
How do you plan to integrate enchantments and absorbing souls in this game? Is killing players a viable way to gain souls...?

Question #7:
PvP is obviously a very important part of this game, but how are you going to discourage so-called 'ganking'...? Will you use an honor/dishonor system comparable to the one used in World of Warcraft or will there be some way to track excessive murderers like in for example Salem...?

Question #8:
The market around MMOs currently revolves around World of Warcraft, but more and more it seems like people await a so-called 'WoW-killer'. Since World of Warcraft is such a prestigious game, there will naturally be very little room for competition. How do you think you will hold up against the recent release of Guild Wars 2 and the recently announced World of Darkness MMO? And what are your opinion on these games; will they be WoW killers...?

Question #9:
Ultimately, if and when World of Warcraft is quote-unquote killed, what do you think this will do to the MMO industry...? Will it thrive, will it suffer...?

Question #10:
How will you handle the payment method...? Will it be a one-time pay only, will it be monthly fee...? What business model do you have in mind...?

Question #11:
The Elder Scrolls Oblivion and Skyrim communities thrive on the modability of their games. Already, there has been talk about UI addons, but do you plan to take any innovative steps to allow players to entertain each other in this fashion...?

Question #12:
The message ‘be what you like to be’ seems to suffer under the strictness of the classes and the factions. Do you have any plans to soften this blow for the TES fans…?
