Why did you pick light armor branch of smithing if apparently you specialize in heavy armor?

Exactly the type of feedback I needed. Didn't realize that was the light armor branch...just noticed it was a shorter path to dragon so I took it ;). Time to adjust the build accordingly!

I haven't seen many full on Mage build yet, but it is what I am going for.

Race: Male Altmer
---------------------------------------
5 - Master Destruction
1 - Dual Casting
2 - Augmented Flames/Frost/Shock
1 - Impact
1 - Intense Flames/Deep Freeze/Desintegrate
----------------------
10 -Destruction**

**I haven't decided yet if I am going to specialize in only 1 element or take multiple. If i take just fire I will get Augmented Flames(2) and Intense Flames and skip on the Frost and Shock Perks. Any comments about which element is best would be appreciated!

5 - Master Illusion
1 - Dual Casting
1 - Animage
1 - Kindred Mage
1 - Aspect of Terror
1 - Quiet Casting
1 - Rage
1 - Master of the Mind
-----------------------
12 - Illusion

5 - Enchanter
1 - Fire Enchanter
1 - Frost Enchanter
1 - Insightful Enchanter
1 - Storm Enchanter
1 - Corpus Enchanter
1 - Extra Effect
------------------------
11 - Enchanting**

**I have left out the 2 enchanting perks for soul gems/trapping. I am somewhat new to the series and a little unfamiliar with what souls do in the game. Any insight here would be appreciated!!

5 - Alchemist
1 - Physician
1 - Benefactor
-------------------------
7 - Alchemy

1 - Steel Smithing
1 - Arcane Blacksmith
-----------------------
2 - Smithing

1 - Novice Restoration
1 - Regeneration
2 - Recovery
-----------------------
4 - Restoration

46 - Total

Currently I am a little shy of the (base) 50 perks so I would like to go into one of the other Mage skill sets of either Conjuration or Alteration. I am thinking that if the Lock Pick skills are still part of Alteration then I will pick those because with no lockpick skills I will need to open chests.

Again, any comments or suggestions on my build would be appreciated!!

To enchant something you need a soul gem with a soul strong enough for the enchantment you want. Weapons require enchantments to be replenished because they are used up over time(don't have to reenchant just refill the souls used). I chose to have lightning expertise rather than flame or cold because I saw some vids and it looked like cold did less damage to draugr. I could have been mistaken since the person playing wasn't a mage player but I saw enough that I think I'll go with that. Also I would drop fire/ice/lightning enchantments unless you plan on using a weapon or staff.

Thanks for the reply. I thought about the fire/ice/lightning enchantments but (again sorry for the noob questions) can you only enchant items with damage and not resistance? I was thinking that I may need to enchant some items with a resistance if possible, specifically for dealing with enemies that do specific elemental damage (i.e. a fire dragon).

For conjuration, according to http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Perks you need to also have Dark Souls (which requires you to have Necromancy) before you can have Twin Souls. I cannot confirm if this is accurate just something I came across.

There are two routes to get to it. The atronach route, and the necromancer route.

Though I did forget I have to get Novice in both Conjuration and Illusion before I can get Dual Casting. :/ I just don't see a point in getting Novice if you aren't going all the way to Master, because at the late stages of the game the Expert and below spells will be obsolete.

Ah I didn't think about that. I was going under the assumption that it would be just for damage, though I don't see why that wouldn't increase resistances as well. Weapons can only take damage enchantments. Clothers(and armor) take resitances, skill upgrades, regens, and stuff like that. You probably should take it then. Personally I won't, I'll just get magicka absorption enchantments. Probably won't be quite as effective as a personalize resistance set of clothes but it will work on any magicka damage and it will replenish magicka.

My build amounts to 51 perks and I don't want to take away from any of them :/. I'll have to go beyond lvl 50. Anyway, I'll be playing the game on hard difficulty, so that might compensate for me being a little above lvl 50 when (as they said) they have no content in for beyond lvl 50.

One Handed (10) : Armsman (5), Bladesman (2), Fighting Stance (1), Savage Strike (1), Critical Charge (1)

Heavy Armor (6) : Juggernaut (5), Well Fitted (1)

Enchanting (8)
: Enchanter (5), Insightful Enchanter (1), Corprus Enchanter (1), Extra Effect (1),

Archery (9) : Overdraw (5), Eagle Eye (1), Steady Hand (1), Power Shot (1), Quick Shot (1),

Block (10) : Shield Wall (5), Deflect Arrows (1), Elemental Protection (1), Power Bash (1), Deadly Bash (1), Shield Charge (1)

Smithing (8) : Steel Smithing (1), Arcane Blacksmith (1), Dwarven Smithing (1), Orcish Smithing (1), Ebony Smithing (1), Daedric Smithing (1), Dragon Smithing (2)

My signature actually says I'll be battlemage, but I'm also drawn to this warrior build. I'll have to play the game first and get a taste of both magic and melee to decide which route I'll go.

Epimetheus from what I understand all the smiting perks only have one rank. So the extra on dragon armor is unneeded.

My first character will be a hunter/barbarian type. Focusing on stealth and to a lesser degree (but not neglecting entirely) general combat. I plan to use alchemy and lockpicking as well, I just don't plan on putting perks into them. I plan on using a 2 handed weapon mainly out of lack of perks to use 1h/shield. That way I can deal more damage than a single weapon and can still block. I plan on using mainly my bow for sneak attacks.

Total = 49

Archery: [14] | Overdraw - 5/5, Critical Shot - 3/3, Eagle Eye - 1/1, Power Shot - 1/1, Hunter's Discipline - 1/1, Ranger - 1/1, Quick Shot - 1/1, Bullseye - 1/1

Sneak: [12] | Stealth - 5/5, Muffled Movement - 1/1, Backstab - 1/1, Light Foot - 1/1, Deadly Aim - 1/1, Silent Roll - 1/1, Silence - 1/1, Shadow Warrior - 1/1

Light Armor: [5] | Agile Defender - 1/1, Custom Fit - 1/1, Unhindered - 1/1, Wind Walker - 1/1, Deft Movement - 1/1

Two Handed: [11] | Barbarian - 5/5, Limbsplitter - 2/3 (This may or may not change. I basically had to drop a point from somewhere after realizing that the smithing perks had "improved versions" and I didn't want to miss out on th dragon one), Champion's Stance - 1/1, Great Critical Charge - 1/1 ,Sweep - 1/1, Warmaster - 1/1

Smithing: [7] | Steel Smithing - 1/1, Elven Smithing - 1/1, Advanced Armors - 1/1, Arcane Blacksmith - 1/1
Glass Smithing - 1/1, Dragon Armor - 2/2 (Improved)

Ever since Morrowind I've had a hankering to play an Argonian Monk called Runs-With-Wind - and when I heard about Skyrim I thought now was the time to try it. Then I found out there was no hand-to-hand skill to go with no unarmoured skill. But a little thing like that wasn't going to hold me up as I want to beat a dragon to death with my bare fists. No armour and no weapon perks mean I can put them elsewhere though. Aiming for a mix of subtle magic, sneakiness and potions.

Alteration
All -14

Illusion
All -13

Sneak
Stealth - 5

Alchemy
Alchemist - 5
Physician - 1
Benefactor - 1
Experimenter - 3
Snakeblood - 1
Purity - 1

Enchanting
Enchanter - 5

After that I have a few character ideas to play around with - Orc 2H berskerer (2H axe, heavy armour, smithing), Nord ranger (twin swords, light armour, bows, stealth), Dunmer mage-assassin, Breton pure mage and so on.

I dunno if I should post this here or create a new topic, but there are already too many "need build ideas!" threads, sooo...

I'm thinking of building a sort of Conan the Barbarian character -- a somewhat sneaky but fierce barbarian. Anyone got any opinions as to where my focus should be?

We have been told there is a soft cap at level 50, meaning 49 base perks. We have also been told that after level 50 the game is not balanced, and so it seems rather pointless to me to build a character after that point because you would be strong enough to make choices not matter, and the amount of effort would be far, far higher. As such, I am interested in builds looking at the natural 49 perk limit.

Here is the one I am looking at currently. The idea is a heavily armoured warrior who can take a beating:

Heavy Armour: Juggernaut (5) + Well Fitted (1) + Tower of Strength (1) + Matching Set (1) + Reflect Blows (1) = 9

Block: Shield Wall (5) + Deflect Arrows (1) + Elemental Protection (1) = 7

Smithing: Steal (1) + Arcane Blacksmith (1) + Dwarven Smithing (1) + Orcish Smithing (1) + Ebony Smithing (1) + Daedric Smithing (1) + Dragon Armour Smithing (2) = 8

Enchanting: Enchanter (5) + Insightful Enchanter (1) + Corpus Enchanter (1) + Extra Effect (1) = 8

One Handed: Armsman (5) + Bladesman (3) = 8

Archery: Overdraw (5) + Eagle Eye (1) + Powershot (1) + Quick Shot (1) + Bullseye (1)

I may make room for some Alchemy perks depending on its tree, but this covers what I want. I will have total control over my armour, making it and enchanting it my self to the highest degree. I will master the defensive aspects of Heavy Armour and Blocking, and the pure offensive aspects of One Handed and Archery. I only really have Archery because I think a range attack is needed, that may be dropped once in game.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on your builds?

You stole my build, lol. GOOD FORM!!

Decided my last attempt at planning out a build was quite lame, and fairly boring, so here's my second go:

Race: No idea. Possibly Orc.

Heavy Armour - 10
Juggernaut (5)
Well Fitted
Tower of Strength
Conditioning
Matching Set
Reflect Blows

Two Handed - 12
Barbarian (5)
Champions Stance
Skull Crusher (3)
Devastating Blow
Great Critical Charge
Sweep
Warmaster

Block - 5
Shield Wall (5)

Enchanting - 10
Enchanter (5)
Soul Squeezer (No idea what this does to be honest.)
Fire Enchanter
Soul Siption
Corpus Inchanter
Extra Effect

Smithing - 6
Steel Smithing
Dwarven Smithing
Orcish Smithing
Ebony Smithing
Daedric Smithing
Dragon Smithing

That comes up to 43, so anything I get after that will go into Speech or perhaps Conjuration since that looks insanely fun.

This'll probably be quite naff too, knowing me. Also, does Shield Wall apply to Two Handed weapons at all, or is it just Shields only? Since the description is simply "Blocking is 20% more effective (+20% per additional rank)" I'm assuming it applies to any weapon you can block with, right?

I wanna make an orc archer, but I don't know Orc racial Berserking affect damage you deal with bows (and for spells for that matter). Does anyone know?
