Yes, Leithal Weapons fix is the equivalent of editing the boot.ini for Windows Vista/7. Should completely disabled it from boot :)

I had this problem and it's not fixed yet, but I am at least able to get to the main menu, crashes after intro video.

Uninstall Catalyst Control Center
Reboot
Reinstall Catalyst Control Center + RAGE performance driver

Good Luck

My NEW retail copy of RAGE will not run. Nothing. Just a spinning cursor. I verified the game cache integrity and it said 1 file failed to validate and would be reacquired. But nothing happened. I reinstalled it and verified the game cache before I started to play and the same thing. This time when it starts, I get a brief 1 second sound from the game and then nothing.

I have no idea how to find out which file is the problem and if I can even install it.

Any ideas? This game will be going back to the store for a refund this weekend if it won't run.

Thanks.

i have the xfx 5870 and got it to work, read my post in forum. i doubt if an eyefinity setup will work since most of us couldnt even get it to work on 1 simple screen.

i used the 11.9 drivers because i heard the 11.10 drivers mess up other games, another shame on you ati.

If you got ATI first thing to try is turn off triple buffering in CCC

hello, same problem to me, but i have ati 4870x2...so try this - in ccc - gaming - 3d setting - turn off WAIT FOR VERTICAL REFRESH (ALWAYS OFF ------ NO only off - unless application specifies) and then run the game...i must to set parameter +jobs_numThreads 0 in steam application running option, because framerate was horrible and turn off steam cloud synchronisation...now i am playing...so try this and good luck

triple buffering is not the problem for me

I have AMD Catalyst? 11.10 Version 2 Preview driver...because this problem i have done after installation...so i dont know if 11.9 driver is good for rage...not tested...try and write:)

This id software guy are real [censored]s for not testing this game prior to releasing it to the public.
See what happens when you [censored] with a system that is working perfectly fine and then you update drivers when there was nothing wrong with them to begin with... My computer running WinXP... Had no problems before.... Period... Installing and playing any other games or software before with the Video Drivers I had. Now, ever since I updated my drivers to this amd_catalyst_11.10_preview2_winxp.exe, and my computer goes to sleep, then I wake it from sleep, my Desktop Background reverts back to none.... No Problems before... MAKE YOUR GAMES WORK AND RUN WITH THE CURRENT VIDEO DRIVES... [censored]S...

These people/developers that work for id software should be fired... They should hire the people who made DARKSIDERS, or BIOSHOCK, or CRYSIS, or Dead Space...
All of the games play without an issue on my laptop, they all have a lot of action. Darksiders is amazingly fast for load time between scenes and so does some of the others.... It's a real game, not like this piece of trash. Take my advise and get a hold of the developers of Darksiders and have them teach you how to make a PC Game morons...

Just found this out. Seems there is a new Video Card Driver out for the Nvidia Graphic cards... Again another Beta.... This time I'm going to make a ghost image before updating my drivers... More wasted space and time consuming backing up about 100GB... This game should would with already existing video drivers like all the other games I've played do... [censored]s...
Nvidia's newest beta driver 285.38, get it here : http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us
also from what I'ver heard, "defragmented the game folder to speed up the texture streaming using Defraggler, set texture cache to large and GPU trancode to disabled and now you should be able to turn around quickly and still have sharp textures"

I'll let you know if the new driver allows me to even get the game started.... [censored]S...

Well, that solved the DEP error; however, the game still crashes on startup, now with this msg:

Have you tried validating your cache files? It looks like the exe could be corrupt.

Well tx Joelll you are the winner. I turned off vertical refresh and thats all it took. Running three screens at 5680 x 1980 with no problems and smooth as silk.....theres a bit of pixelation but hardly noticable. I didn't have to do anything else. I appreciate everyones help as I was pulling my hair out and now I can relax. Kudos to evryone.

Sorry, I'm not understanding what you mean. Anyway, there seems to be a missing file, so doesn't work anyway. It's going back.

So last night I made a Ghost Image of my C: Drive and then I went to install this update I just downloaded.

When I try to install 285.38-notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-international-beta.exe I get this:
NVIDIA Installer cannot Continue
This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware.
NOW THIS REALLY PISSES ME OFF... F..YOU ID AND YOUR GAME...

I even tried to extract it to a folder then used Device Manager... Display Adapters... Update Driver... I browse to this directory, where I extracted it too and still "Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date."
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M... This is B.S... ID software are [censored]s for putting a game out on the market with so many problems... About to give up on this game... Besides from what I've read, a lot of people even though than can get it to run still have major texture problems and the ending to the game is suppose to be too easy and a lot of people were very disappointed with the way it ends.

Now in case you might be thinking that I downloaded the incorrect driver:
When I went back to this link: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us
This is what is displayed to me automatically. So I'm pretty damn sure I selected the correct driver to download.

This game is a piece of CRAP...

I've played Darksiders (1&2), Dead Space (1&2), Crysis (1&2), Fear (1,2&3), Bioshock (1&2),,,lots, lots more... So my pc isn't the problem its ID Soft... trying to port a Console Game to a PC Game... They F...UP. I've even played Fallout 3 on this laptop which by the looks of some of the previews looks pretty similar in some sorts to this game...

Yes, there is. You can turn off DEP in Windows XP/ win 7 by doing the following:

1. Click Start
2. Select Control Panel
3. Select System
4. Click the Advanced tab
5. In the Performance region select Settings
6. Click the Data Execute tab in the dialog box that opens
7. Select Turn on DEP for all programs and services except for those I select and set it to not allow for that program.

If that does not work, you can completely shut off the DEP service from boot by editing your boot.ini (win xp only) and setting the "noexecute" string to ALWAYSOFF, see below for description of each switch.

/NOEXECUTE=OPTIN
Optin enables Data Execution Prevention for core system images and those specified in the DEP configuration dialog. Optin enables DEP only for operating system components, including the Windows kernel and drivers. Administrators can enable DEP on selected executable files. This is the Windows default setting.

/NOEXECUTE=OPTOUT
Optout enables Data Execution Prevention for all images, operating system and all processes except those specified in the DEP configuration dialog (System in Control Panel).

/NOEXECUTE=ALWAYSON
Alwayson enables DEP on all images. This option enables DEP for the operating system and all processes. This includes the Windows kernel and drivers. All attempts to disable DEP will be ignored.

/NOEXECUTE=ALWAYSOFF
Alwaysoff disables Data Execution Prevention (DEP) completely. Attempts to enable DEP selectively will be ignored. On Windows XP with SP2, this subparameter also disables Physical Address Extension (PAE). This switch does not disable PAE on Windows Server 2003 with SP1

I have this frustrating problem, i go into the DEP but cant find the file to put in the "safe" list, where do i find the file and what is the file called?
