Why do we have to join the dawnguard first?

Let's just say you get a little preview of both before you actually have to choose.
You guys are ignoring what this guy and one other guy have said. The other guy said it would make more sense when you see it,

I'm decidely anti-Thalmor.

If I see the robes, well.....they become kibble.

Though.....I suppose know these Thalmor will be able to help me out a bit.....and by that I mean they need to donate hearts to my cause.

He did say that right at the first hour you have the option to be vampire or dawnguard so I'm sure you have a choice to do so.

My vampire has deliberately slaughtered half the small towns of Skyrim with my master Volikhar thralls and has a bounty ill never be able to pay off at 3 major cities yet. How does that work?

Edit: Ok this is my theory, Volikhar is a whole different thing to Dawnguard, Dawnguard could careless if you are a vampire or not they are more worried about the Volikhar.

So the question is, will the Dawnguard quest line recognize your character as a vampire or not, sadly I can almost guarantee that it will not. They are going the mainstream route, and the mainstream of people don't like being a vampire because they don't know what there doing. "Oh geeze! Vampire Lord! Oh Im going Vampire with DLC comes out!". So the DLC quest line is likely revolved around that fact, that the DLC will be the first interest anyone has at being a vampire.

So that's fine, gotta appeal to everyone, but it would be nice to at least have a comment thrown into the quest line somewhere stating "hey we know what you are but your not the threat of the Volikhar & can still help us"

To further this, if Lord Harkon says "Or is it to become one of us, to feed on the blood of the living etc etc" I am going to light the entire Castle up in flames, Thrall Lord Harkon with my vampire and brake the entire quest line out of anger. Then reload

Not it's not, ive seen the some of the leaked footage, there SEEMS to be a way without joining the dawnguard.
Is this confirmed yet? :S I also don't really want to be a part of the Dawnguard... Especially when they are supposed Vampire hunters but don't seem to notice my ghostly pale skin and neon light up eyes..... *sigh* I was gonna join with them, but if they can't tell a neonglowingeyeobviousvampire person from a normal person, then they aren't going to get far....

I joined DG as a vampire just to get to the vampire quests lines, that seems dumb to me. Only one character recognized me as a vampire, then some old dude molested me to make me a vampire...again....

Because you have to be offered to become a true Volkihar vampire and only way to get that honor is too save the Dracula-esque guys daughter and return her home.

Yeah the only reason harkon does not butcher you right then and there if you reject him is because you bought his daughter home.

Doubt it.

I suspect characters who are already vampires won't be able to join the DG anyway.

It'll prolly give you the location of the vamp castle same way, via guard rumors.
You sir are wrong. You have to join the Dawnguard to find Serana and only she knows where Castle Volkihar is.
