Witcher 3, savior of TES?

Post » Wed Feb 06, 2013 1:23 pm

I have the first one I bought from a Steam sale for around 2.49USD or something. That was a steal. Never played it yet. Been busy.

Really looking forward to the 3rd one with the open world and all it's features. That link that the OP provided; wow! I can't wait. Looks like a highly anticipated game for a lot of people.

As far as Skyrim. I'm sure Bethesda knows they need to step up their quality, it is very well pronounced in every forum out there about there buggy games. Good points though are made about how W3 is only bound to one character. It's really way too early to tell. I just know I love both companies. I know what to expect from CDprojektRED and Bethesda.

I really would like to see Bethesda step away from that gamebryo engine and use IDtech5 or something anything besides a recycled engine or glorified engine. Next generation consoles should persuade them to do something else now that they have DX11.

Ehh.. Usually I don't like to judge one game to another. i rather rate them according to their own merits, but that's just my opinion. That said however I am interested in seeing if Witcher 3 can actually deliver what they are promising. As for the Bethesda, if the game turns out to be totally awesome hopefully Bethesda will take some notes and incorporate it into TES VI

I appreciate that the ending was awful, no one denies that, but was it worth the petition?

Oh God, yes. I assume the harsh reaction is the only reason we got the extended cut. If so, than thank God for the petitions, because thats the only reason I can still play Mass Effect 3 honestly.

Bethesda needs to drop the Fallout series and work solely on TES for the next generation consoles.

Having recently learned about the gilded age ere in American history, I learned that competition is almost always good for the consumer as it drives producers to release better products if the hope to make more money. If Witcher 3 really is more akin to an open world RPG, then that can only be good for us as Bethesda product consumers. So bring on the competition!

I said no because they won't change because of Witcher 3.. It will be an amazing game but, Bethesda won't lose sales or gain sales by competing with Witcher.. Perhaps it may gain some of the hardcoe fans but, there would need to be a lot of changes in Bethesda to make this happen.. Such as writing, world design, and animations (which they are pretty bad at).. I don't mean environments, biomes, structures with the word World Design, I just mean how the player interacts with it..

Never played witcher 1, but Witcher 2 was a great game.. I enjoyed it much more than Skyrim..

I don't like the Witcher series. Found its plot bland - and it tries too hard to be Game of Thrones what with all the porm.

However, it is clearly a popular game amongst hardcoe RPG players, and I'll admit it looks quite fun to play. I don't think Bethesda need worry about the world size - people can look past that - but they do need to experiment with a new combat engine to keep it interesting. The Witcher will never challenge TES, but they can learn from it.

They also need to introduce more conversation options. Skyrim's one-choice was unacceptable
Tries to be Game of Thrones? The Witcher was a series of books that came out before Game of Thrones...

If I could pick if Bethesda dropped Elder Scrolls or Fallout, I would drop Elder Scrolls.. I personally enjoy Fallout more.. It may be this way because my three favorite themes of games are apocolyptic, steampunk, and cyberpunk..

You're misguided!

I'd rather they drop Fallout over TES.

I wish they'd skip Fallout 4.
That one's coming before the next TES, right?

Competition is always a positive thing in the games industry. So yes, I would agree that a little more competition in the genre can only benefit everyone.

I appreciate that the ending was awful, no one denies that, but was it worth the petition? The reams of fan-fiction and the overall aggressive reaction towards bioware. At the end of the day - as much as we may love it - it's only a game.

Normally I would agree with you but the problem I have is that there is the transcript of promises regarding the ending (all of these statements came out close to release so theres no way they didnt know how completely false every statement was) and every single one was almost literally the opposite of what we got. People spent their own money based on what was said; Bioware flat out lied about the ending and they have to deal with the consequences.

I don't think they'll drop either. Too much money. And while I enjoy TES more than Fallout, I would like to play both and rather not drop either.

Witcher 3 wont force TES to do anything becuase witcher is fundimentally a different game to TES, in terms of overall goals.

Not to mention that going from a largely linear game, to a big open world game, isnt going to help Witcher's story, or gameplay, unless they do a lot of cheap tricks that games like Dead rising 2 do by putting timers on quests for FORCE "consequence", which was, and is, one of the most HATED features of dead rising 2.

I was thinking this too. It's a bit like saying professional rugby will have an affect on professional American football. The are similar in the fact that they are position centric field sports, but they are fundamentally different games. There are those who are ignorant of one or both sports always trying to draw comparisons. But those who know both sports realise that you can't really. If the competition is a different beast then it isn't really competition at all. Just Cause 2 (one of my favorite time killing games) is also open world boasting a massive map uninterrupted by loading screens. True, it has no RPG elements, but turning Witcher loose open world isn't necessarily going to make Bethesda sweat it.

That said, competition is good, and I'm all for it. But a development house implying that they are going to compete with TES when there typically is no varied character creation in their series is sort of over stating things a bit. I'd like to see a Baldur's Gate (I'm talking old school PC Baldur's Gate... not that crap that came out for the Xbox about a decade ago) world rendered in three dimensions using the latest technology. That would pull me away from Beth in a heartbeat.

I'm assuming this is a joke. Beth breathed life back into Fallout and made it more popular than ever before. And I really loved what they did to it (despite some of its failures). Looking forward to the next one.

I hope not, The Witcher series so far hasn't been able to do that, so if The Witcher 3 does that means I'll have lost interest in the series. I'm not interested in playing yet another TES clone, even if it is a high qaulity one that reviewers might claim to be 'better than Skyrim'. It's even worse if it comes from an already established series.

Could you stop posting in this thread if all you're going to do is flame bait?

That said I kind of agree with you.

I'm really not.
What's the fun in generic mindless shooter games?

And I'm not flame baiting.
If anyone's self-combusting over my opinion, that's really their problem.

Maybe borderlands or COD, but fallout is not just a mindless shooter. I see it as more of an action adventure RPG than a shooter
