Witcher 3, savior of TES?

Post » Wed Feb 06, 2013 1:17 am

The Bioware ship is long since sunk in my eyes ME3 was the torpedo that blew that one apart and one only has to see one of EAs own statements to see the direction of DA3, they are no longer producing games without a multiplayer component attached. Sad to say but in my eyes Bioware is dead.
You got that right. The President of EA is glad that he never green lighted a single player game.

I'm probably one of the very few that loves Mass effect 3. Lol. The ending was horrible, but the extended one was much better, and made the series worth playing again for me.

I just cant get behind the story telling in 3 there is so much done wrong (admittedly a few things done right) then again I saw problems coming in three with the way two seemed to do nothing to advance the story involving the reapers (at least two was a very well told story).

But we are getting off topic.

Did you miss the part about The Witcher 3 being open world?
I'll believe it when I see it....you should never believe the hype this early in development as developers might want to make this big, beautiful open world full of everything they promise but it's not always feasible or possible within the budget and time constraints.

And EA remains the Kiss of Death. I didn't want to believe it as ME was one of my favorite series.

I don't like the Witcher series. Found its plot bland - and it tries too hard to be Game of Thrones what with all the porm.

However, it is clearly a popular game amongst hardcoe RPG players, and I'll admit it looks quite fun to play. I don't think Bethesda need worry about the world size - people can look past that - but they do need to experiment with a new combat engine to keep it interesting. The Witcher will never challenge TES, but they can learn from it.

They also need to introduce more conversation options. Skyrim's one-choice was unacceptable

While I don't like EA - this is an unfair statement. Mass Effect 2 is my favourite of the series and Mass Effect 3 was good up until the ending which, while casting a sour note on the series, has garnered a severe overreaction.

One would hope that in the customer relations department CDProjekt's treatment of their fans would shine an even brighter light than the DLC release fiasco has on Bethesda's almost total lack of respect for their customers.

One would hope that an open world game that has a compelling story and characters you actually feel something for and decisions that actually change something might cause Bethesda to step up in that department.

One also hopes that Bethesda does not go so far down the "advlt/Grim/Gritty" path as the Witcher games, I love the Witcher but I wouldn't play it around a lot of people because of the content.

CDProjekt is also releasing mod tools that look to be a breeze to work with.

So, if they pull this off, CDProjekt will give Bethesda a bit of competition, hopefully enough to make Beth step it up. But they'll never have the same market share because of the content is too advlt.

Thats a direction I honestly wish the game would take, as it would make it feel even more real. Things like brothels, and actual intimate moments. Only thing is their animations would have to get considerably better. If they can't do it right, they shouldn't do it all. Its not really a necessary addition anyway, but it would be cool if they could actually do it. FNV did a decent job with it. Not the actual moments, but the prosttutes, and all that. Made the game feel more real as these things would exist.

Cd are excellent DEVS, but they DO NOT have the experience and prestige Bethesda has.
This is there first true open world game.
Bethesda has made 6 with countless Expansions and DLC.

Why not? They're taking a lot of inspiration from Skyrim. I don't see any reason not to, as I'm not bashing my favorite game.

It is entirely possible that "they" are claiming inspiration from Skyrim as a marketing tactic. I'm not saying that's what they are doing, just that it's been done before... and I'm pretty much a sceptic when it comes to any pie-in-the-sky pre-release statements from game shops who are just trying to get everyone wet and primed to drop their cash at the counter. I was even sceptical with Skyrim, but have been very pleasantly surprised (even though half of the cool stuff they claimed was going in actually just ended up being the propaganda I'm speaking of). I usually wait until friends of mine test games out for me and vet them before I'm willing to spend the dough.

Woo! The Witcher franchise is my second favourite series after TES! But by the time the next Elder Scrolls game is released The Witcher 3 will already be old, so I doubt Bethesda will be that interested in upping their game to be equal to a 3-4 year old game.

ME2 was in development before EA bought bioware and I disagree with you on ME3 it's not just the story telling, there are several choices gameplay wise that made it bad, plus in my opinion the ending deserves every bit of flak it got, it destroyed any sense of threat the main villains had, introduces a new character at the end, who in turn introduces a problem (which is proven wrong multiple times during the coarse of the three games) with one of the most staggering logical fallacies ive ever seen, is a completely blatant rip off of the ending choices from Deus Ex (one of which has no business being in Mass Effect) and on top of all that the obvious blatant lies perpetrated by their PR department concerning the ending.

At this rate we may have to throw a party.

You never know, they might actually pull it off. I for one, would love to see what CDProjekt does with their open-world formula. I have faith in them. They put their fans first.

If they did what Assassins creed 3 did, I'd agree, but they've put actual details as to how the game will be like a Skyrim open world, and better. But you raise a good point all the same. Its best to wait and see, especially with how fa off the game is from now. I'm very hopeful though, as the devs are talented game makers. But this is their first open world game...

At least they're trying something new. Studios should always have a chance to change and add to their design philosophy. Wouldn't want them to become stagnat anyway.

That may still be there. An open world with great story telling and writing in today's market? Thats something to hope for even if it falls short.

Well to give credit were its due...Halo 4 was 343 first shooter, and they still made it stand up-if not better to the orignal trilogy, so they CAN pull it off...Im just a little skeptical.

I'm actually more interested in their cyberpunk rpg "Cyberpunk 2077". But the witcher 3 is going open world? That's very interesting. CD Projekt Red are ambitious people thats for sure.

Oh, yes, definitely have Cyberpunk on my radar. Shame it's such a long ways off.

Indeed. I was super skeptical towards them, and I couldn't have been more wrong about the story and gameplay. Multiplayer is IMO the best its ever been in halo.
