So... about the game footage

Post » Tue Apr 16, 2013 6:48 pm

Graphics aside, the game play reminded me a lot of Oblivion. I liked the faster pace there than the slow, lumbering feel of Skyrim. I think it will be great in PvP.

For me, not releasing gameplay footage means that it isn't finished, and they don't want people to start reading into and over-reacting to something that isn't final.
I'm still hoping that they don't release anything until it is finished. Then people can either play it or decide their time would be better spent elsewhere.

Even though i agree that peoples reaction can be over the top i can't agree with the highlighted yellow. MMO's don't work that way i'm afraid, you can release in game footage even if some things might change, take ArcheAge as an example.

Are we saying that gamer's in the west are to immature to understand the difference or beta.

Sometimes it's better to not have an NDA and let the supporters grow with the development as it progresses. WOW had no NDA for the beta and open forums for anyone to read but not comment if you were not in the beta.

XLGames have let us watch ArcheAge from CBT1 with nothing hidden, once the beta is over they go to work in fixing what needs to be fix and then they continue with the next beta.

I am sensible enough to know that it's early days but being up front with your product get you a lot of respect in the mmo world.

That seemed to be the only option window the player didn't scroll down to show all of the options. I wonder why...

Doesn't matter, it wasn't the lowest settings.

Lowest setting in a MMO look really bad and not like the settings he was using.

Example of what a mmo can look like on the lowest settings http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6TduUtgZ3g

The more I think about it the more I personally won't be able to judge fully until I see the game in the true first person they've promised.

Even Skyrim can look kinda typical MMO in third if you zoom out all the way.

Oh, I know. I wasn't really disagreeing. I was just pointing out that things like antialiasing, draw distance, post process fx, etc. could have been turned off. Also, I seem to remember one of the previews mentioning that nameplates and other "gamey" UI elements were off by default and had to be turned on. Everything about this video seems like ti was intentionally made to look bad. It seemed like corporate sabotage from a competitor to me or a Skyrim really devoted fan hoping for failure.

i think the only way to prove that the game is great is to give everyone on this forum a beta invite. who is with me?

Btw I think that the server graphics were set to low, would make much sence.
Other than the graphics the game looked amazing, what's wrong with you people? I think you were blinded by expectations or something and HOW does this look like another generic MMO?

Just looking at the posts here, I'd venture to say people [east, west, north, or south] don't see that "beta = not yet finished". All of the "animation is clunky", "textures svck", stuff is sort of proof they aren't equating "finished/polished" and "unfinished/rough/beta".

Personal opinion incoming: Just because you can release information/footage, doesn't mean you should, or that people will remember that it is BETA if you do. I remember the OMG MOUNTED COMBAT IS IN OBLIVION posts when a screenshot of a beta build with a mounted character had a drawn sword. The devs were, apparently, trying to get mounted combat into the game, but they couldn't make it work the way they wanted, and they scrapped it. People started rants about why they lied about mounted combat, based on that one beta build screenshot, when they found out there was no mounted combat in Oblivion, regardless of whether the *devs* had actually announced it or not. When one of the trailers came out for Skyrim people started speculating about horses based on a look at a saddled horse tethered outside a building. People did not like it when I pointed out that Morrowind had saddle guars even though they couldn't be ridden, and there was no official information yet about riding horses.

I also have a feeling that some posters, if they could see everything "transparently", would be even more upset and rant-inclined if they see their favorite idea/weapon/armor/magic whatever isn't in the game. Or they did include it, but didn't implement it the way the poster wanted, for whatever reason.

Agreed. I would like to see at least some gameplay footage.
For me, not releasing footage means that gameplay svcks so bad that they are afraid for people to see it.
I have to say I am kinda of scared.
Well if the gameplay svcks then why when the media got to do their hands-on playthrough or all the VIPs for the 2 hour playthrough at PAX say that in all their articles they wrote. I think people are just suddenly forgetting that people actually got to play this game before Beta even started and most of the people who actually played before were amazed by it.

"Amazing" lol, that's a bit over the top especially when you compare it to games like Tera which really do have amazing graphics. The graphics look ok but they were not all set to ultra which would probably look great.

After seeing the vid i'm so glad i can run everything on ultra.
