Praise the Devs and Pass the Ammo #2

Post » Thu Dec 09, 2010 9:09 pm

Continuation of http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1185308-praise-the-devs-and-pass-the-ammo-we-got-m1911s/.

To bring everyone up to speed, we are now certain of:

.45 Auto Pistol (Colt M1911)

Unique .45 Auto Pistol (Colt M1911 with snakeskin grips, engraved "And Darkness Comprehends it Not"

.45 Auto SMG (Thompson M1928)

.45 Auto SMG Drum Magazine weapon mod

Unique Service Rifle

.45 Auto ammo will be available at sources in the Mojave wasteland, eg: Gun Runners.

Compliance Regulator, unique energy weapon.

Also, there will be fire bombs, war clubs, Yao Guai and Yao Guai Gauntlets.

And I'm sure we'd all like to show out appreciation to Josh, Chris and all the devs who worked on this. Hopefully Josh didn't have to make the weapons on his own time. :hubbahubba:

Sawyer said that the Compliance Regulator was an Energy Weapon, i.e. off my radar.

But like I mentioned in the last thread, I paused the video and compared the unique Service Rifle to the regular one, and it definitely had a shorter and thicker barrel, as well as a muzzle break. My first thought is that it's chambered in a bigger caliber, but the magazine isn't wider, so who knows.... Perhaps it's part of a full auto conversion, for longer sustained fire (like an AUG HBAR).

With the Greek Geckos and the writing on the slide of Graham's snakeskin M1911, there seem to be some Greek themes in the DLC. Although there is the word Arrete inscribed on the unique Service Rifle (which means "Order" in French if I remember correctly)

Thanks. Edited the OP.

I agree, for whatever reason, the barrel on the unique is definitely different. It could just be cosmetic, or could be either of the above, as you say. One certain note: Josh is pretty thorough with his weapons. If he did chamber a Service Rifle in .308, especially considering it's a unique so it gets it's own skin, I would expect that the mag well would more closely resemble the non-angled mag well of the AR-10. Maybe not, though, if that means if needs a new mesh. I don't know if they've used new meshes on uniques or just new textures. I shall look at the vid again to see if it's an AR-10 style mag well.

It says: κα? ? σκοτ?α α?τ? ο? κατ?λαβεν

Translation is a little more probelmatic. So far I have:

1. and Scotland was possessed Procedure
2. and or Scotland this oy katelaben

Not workin' out so good. Knowing Josh "The History Major" Sawyer, he's using ancient greek or something the modern web translators are struggling with.

Figured it out. It's from the Greek New Testiment

John 1:1-51

and the darkness did not comprehend it.

In the trailer you can see it on Graham's hip, so don't get too attached to him if you want it.

Is this frase alone, or has something more with it?
It is not in modern Greek (Neither ancient) It goes as "And Scotland didn't Occupy this"
But Both σκοτ?α and κατ?λαβεν may have different meaning. It depends from the rest of the frase, if exists any.

I don't know when the Greek New Testiment was written, or what form of Greek it was written in. Not much of a bible scholar. I'm sure it's not ancient nor modern Greek. It's probably whatever Greek dialect was written in the middle ages.

Well, I learned something today:

The New Testament was written in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koine_Greek, so we can probably assume this is the Greek dialect that quote is from.

I have looked closely and there are definitely 2 magazines for the Thompson. There is the ~20 round box mag shown when the tribal is shooting accross the creek at the beginning, and one later in the hands of a missionary (?) with a drum mag. This either means:

1. There is at least one mod available, it being the drum mag, or

2. The second weapon is a unique fitted with the drum.

Since the second weapon didn't look much different than the first, I'm going with it being a mod, and therefore, either there is/are vendor/s in Zion or there is some other conveyance of mechandise.
