PS3 Release for Dawnguard.

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 6:18 am

Yknow I gotta say....

I've been following these threads mostly with the attitude that, with all due respect, you people (lol that sounds racist or something, anyways I mean PC and PS3 users, and btw I'm a PC user) are overreacting.

However, reading that, I gotta admit: that kinda ticks me off. Their wording of it I mean, specifically the underlined parts.
The first underlined part just sounds so.....slimey. Yknow like they're sugar-coating what should be "we royally screwed up and STILL failed to correct our mistake we made with both New Vegas and Skyrim, and lo and behold Dawnguard has the EXACT SAME PROBLEMS with PS§ we should've excepted and been ready to address ages ago." Instead of saying that, they're wording it like "AREN'T WE NOBLE, DOING OUR DARNEDEST TO MAKE SURE PS3 USERS ARE TREATED EQUALLY?? NO NEED TO THANK US!" No you're right, there isn't.
The second underlined part.....just the audacity of that claim that they're as disappointed as the fans, I find that rather bold of them.

Nothing against Bethesda as a company though, I guess, but rather the marketing department. I guess I should admit I have a special hatred for marketing types (figuring out how to do less work for more money and/or coerce people into buying things by any "fair game" means neccesary is basically their job), but it's lines like that that remind me WHY I hate marketing. It just always comes off as slimey, manipulative and underhanded; rewording situations to make things sound much nicer than the stark reality of things.

Lol.

I think the second underlined part, "we're just as disappointed as our fans", sounds even more ridiculous. I think they should've left that out.

That's my point.
It's an attempt to appear sympathetic that comes off as incredibly detached and insensitive. Yknow, it's like telling a widow who just saw her husband get stabbed to death that his loss is equally as tragic for you, his employer. :bonk: Maybe not a wise choice of words.

I felt a great disturbance in the internet, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and then suddenly silenced...

But yeah, how dare they delaying it, I mean they should totally release it with all of it's memory leaky bugs, I mean NOBODY will complain about that...

Yes, this. I edited my post because I could already feel the swarm of angry users about to pounce on me.

PS3 still has to get the 1.6 patch (as part of the 1.7 release), right? Since 1.6 is required for Dawnguard, the earliest they can release it for PS3 will be when 1.7 is released.

I give up.

People just don't know what they really want.

Would they rather know everything and have to wait a long time, or know nothing and have a surprise one day when they log on to the forums? Or somewhere in between?

while that is nice the only thing i have a problem with is that they had atleast a whole month or so to sort out the bugs ect..
Bugs don't respect deadlines. If they did Skyrim wouldn't have any...

I think the issue is, and maybe it's just me but...

That little snippet to the PS3 users doesn't come off as honest. It comes off as deceptive and self-promoting. I mean they don't even say "our sincerest apologies for the delay" and instead just attempt to tell everyone how great they are. I mean wouldn't an apology be nice?
So yes they're communicating, but they're only communicating how great they are and how thankful PS3 user should be that they're working so hard to give them an equal experience....while telling them to sit tight and wait as Xbox and PC play with the toys they don't have, lolololololololol.

I'm happy that they were finally forthright about the DG release situation. If they would have been honest from the start I would have been much less annoyed about everything.

And it's not as if they information just released on the beth blog was something the developers didn't know a month ago; they could have informed us of the unfortunate truth a month ago, and I for one would greatly prefer that to being kept in the dark.

1.7 shouldn't be far off with the title update getting submitted this week

I'm disappointed to say the least.

I wish Bethesda as a whole was as steadfast in releasing PS3 DLC as they are in releasing the Xbox 360 and PC DLC (timed exclusives not withstanding) versions as they are in the main title releases.

I do understand that the PS3 is a difficult platform to port for and that Bethesda doesn't want to release a DLC that doesn't meet its standard of quality, but it is nonetheless difficult to not feel slighted in this regard as a person who games on the PS3 platform exclusively.

EDIT: Reading back a few posts I do want to reiterate that communication from Bethesda, even if it's not necessarily positive is of course welcome. Please keep us posted whenever possible!

So 1.7 isn't even at Sony yet, sooo, 2 weeks? 3 weeks? Ofcourse that timer only starts once Sony receive it. Damn certification.

''We are not satisfied yet with Dawnguard’s Skyrim's performance on the PS3. We would like for everyone to have a chance to play Dawnguard Skyrim, but we aren’t going to release it for PS3 knowing that some people’s experience in Skyrim will be worse HORRIBLE. We do everything we can to have our content available to all; from our free updates, to user mods, to paid DLC. We’re as disappointed as our fans when that isn’t the case, but we’ll continue to push for that reality.''

Well, I Thank you for apologizing!

But seriously, you should have done this before 11.11.11 and released Skyrim 4-5 months later when it became playable.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving PS3 users some information about the state of Dawnguard.(That wasn't so hard was it?) But personally I don't care for it. That train is long gone. You're not fooling me twice! Give the people that will buy Dawnguard the game they deserve!

One thing that bothers me though: Why the need to point out that updates are free? Do you think we should be grateful for receiving "free" updates that are for fixing the game you released broken in the first place? Maybe you would like to charge us money for the fixes, and charge us money for the fixes that fixes the things that the fixes broke.

Also, question: You are not satisfied with Dawnguard's performance on PS3, however, you were satisfied with vanilla Skyrim's performance on the PS3?!?!?!?!? Oh boy, Dawnguard must have made your PS3 blow up or start WW3 for you to release such a statement. Or maybe you confused the PS3 with the newer XBOXs.You know, they are black too. But i'm sure PS3 software don't work on those black XBOXs

Like GTA4 on PC the game likely needs some massive engine updating or changing in order to properly run on the PS3 hardware. I am guessing the blunt truth of the matter is that the Bethesda higher-ups do not see the PS3 sales and market as large enough to justify such a cost, just like Rockstar did not see that for the GTA4 engine and thus did not port Red Dead Redemption.

Just a guess though.

At least the silence has been broken. Would have been nice to know this a week ago, but at least it's out in the air now.

I think it's more likely that they submitted Dawnguard to Sony as it is, and Sony put their foot down because it was too shoddy.

Either way, at least there's a chance it won't be as buggy as the original game was at release. And we finally have official confirmation that it will be coming out for the PS3.

I don't think they hate us... they just hate sony for not giving them ridiculous amounts of money, so they take it out on their PS3 fanbase

I can't help you with that, but I just wanted to say your Profile picture is awesomesauce.

Depends on how you look at it. I think the albeit cringe inducing part where they said 'we are as disappointed as our fans' was a way of apologising, just without the part that involves smashing their dignity into little microscopic pieces with a sledgehammer.
