PS3 Release for Dawnguard #3

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 1:55 pm

I hope everyone can be civil about this subject. While it's perfectly fine to have a negative opinion about the lack of a solid release date, you have to express them in a civil and mature way. We do not want to see immature hostile posts :nono:

It has been http://www.bethblog.com/2012/08/02/dawnguard-ps3-update/ that the PS3 will be a little late as they are still working to ensue an acceptable performance..
We are not satisfied yet with Dawnguard’s performance on the PS3. We would like for everyone to have a chance to play Dawnguard, but we aren’t going to release it for PS3 knowing that some people’s experience in Skyrim will be worse. We do everything we can to have our content available to all; from our free updates, to user mods, to paid DLC. We’re as disappointed as our fans when that isn’t the case, but we’ll continue to push for that reality.

Well I swore that I wasn't going to create an account and post on here, but here I am.

First post. I want it to be a good one.

I am an avid supporter of the elder scrolls games. Believe it or not, elder scrolls was the first game that hooked me in to RPGs. I bought the game because of the vampire element in oblivion. I got hooked because of the depth and breadth. I had never played such a huge game before. I was giddy over Skyrim. Loved every moment, except for the annoying choice how the vampire was vastly inferior to playing as a human or werewolf. You can imagine my excitement over DG. A chance to live as a Vampire Lord and actually be a vampire with some power.

I am a PS3 exclusive owner. I have a PC, but I don't game on it. I had an Xbox for a while but it collected dust and that was about it.

I can't tell you how disappointed I am in Bethesda. Not communicating at all is worse then telling me that the DLC won't be out for 3 months. If you tell me the latter, I can at least set aside some cash and move on with life. But without a date, there is no end in sight. Many PS3 owners are threatening to not buy dawnguard, and worse not buying another bethesda game period.

Do I want Bethesda to get the DLC right and get it to work on my PS3? Absolutely. However, Bethesda is notorious for not being able to program well on the PS3. Programmers have stated that although more difficult to learn, once you get it, it affords the programmer more options. So my statement to Bethesda is twofold.

1.) Call Naughty Dog, svcker Punch, Santa Monica Studios and Konami - Find out how to program on the PS3 so you don't have to be embarrassed to admit you can't code for it.

2.) Entertain a price drop for PS3 owners. Nothing crazy. Instead of $19.99 sell it to us for $17.99. Xbox got it first. PC got it and can mod with it. It seems only fair to give your loyal PS3 fans something... anything to show us that you still care about us.

That is all.

They just need to call 4J studios. they ported Oblivion to PS3. Obviously though they don't want to spend money on porting it out nor do they want the reputation loss of being an incompetent company of coders.

I knew they hired another source for Oblivion, but I wasn't sure which one. Thanks for that.

Isn't the PS3 still behind in patches as well? Maybe they should get those up and running before releasing so they get a stable release. I bet the main issue is that I hear the Vampire Lord mode causes a drop in FPS on the xbox version and I can't imagine the FPS drop on the PS3 version so I bet they are optimizing it quite a bit.

Well they wanted to have no bugs and you should appreciate the delay. I hope the PS3 players get it soon. I had no bugs for the PC version and most bugs for the PC version are caused by mods.

I hate to say it but no matter what they say there will always be bugs in a ps3 version they have not coded enough games to run on ps3

Everyone keeps saying it is because of bugs that they aren't releasing it. Every time I read their post... I think that it is bigger than that. I mean they released the vanilla game to PS3 owners with some major bugs. Why would they not release the DLC with bugs? I think they are having some major issues that could be fixed if they just knew how to code for the PS3.

one it probably creates lag on the ps3 system which has been a problem longer load times from the new areas and how to fix the save files yet again because with the data they add to the game it will make the save bigger again

Well, it does make sense that maybe 4J asked for more than Beth wanted to spend on their services. In the wake of all this though, if this was indeed the case, I imagine Beth might just reconsider that expenditure in future. I hope there is something to appease the ps3 guys. I might own an xbox, but we're all gamers and we're all TES fans at the end of the day!

If anything comes out tomorrow, it will be the patch. But, I doubt that will even come to us over the next couple of weeks. I could be wrong and I hope I am.

Agreed.
I mean, the ps3 version was faulty at release. They knew this. I couldn't play the game for more than 20 hours per save or so before having to delete the char and start over due to the insane lag.

But I still love Bethesda and all their games! Kinda like still being in love with a cheating girlfriend.

Thanks for seeing that. Although I favor the PS3 there is no hate for people who play skyrim on xbox or PC from me. I would just like to have an equal opportunity to play the same quality of game, which apparently means I have to wait longer. I used to live in a world where the company would work harder to see that equality. I still think if we had a two dollar price reduction that would appease a lot of people... including me :)

See I never had this problem. It got a little laggy at times but I was able to get 60+ hours in before they patched it.
What rig do you have? I have a 120g PS3 with the 120g swapped for a 500g.

I have the old fatty, the 80GB one. Oh man, was that crap frustrating! Glad it finally got fixed, was afraid it wouldn't for a while. I remember posting a topic about it around release, and got flamed since Bethesda obviously would "never release a straight out ruined product" :P

Well, the earliest it will release is probably Wednesday since the PS store updates on Wednesdays (well at least in Europe). I'm not expecting to see the patch until they release Dawnguard. Starting to get pretty sick of waiting to be honest. =/
