PSN UPDATE?

Post » Sat Sep 11, 2010 5:54 pm

The only place I can see where Sony is at fault is the fact they should have provided an earlier release, informing people to be on alert. However, I guess I see why, since this has been blown up so much. Everyone uses places like Amazon, GAME, HMV, ShopTO, GameStop, etc. They also put their details on those sites, and buy regularly. The same thing can happen on any online retailer/service. Hackers will always try and find ways around it. It’s a never ending war.

Unless PS+ service, Sony introduced PSN cards at a later stage, so no company is forcing you to ever put your details on their system. (Unless you joined at a early stage)

Sony are correct in using this as a chance to rebuild, and upgrade the security.

Plus, I’m sure many used false information, for DOB. Which is key if they wish to do transactions. Moreover, most banks request a security password when confirming purchases online. If you have made your passwords all the same, for every instance, you’re at fault for thinking everything is always secure. Its always been advised that you don't use passwords more than once.

They haven’t confirmed the leakage of CC details, but say it’s a possibility. That’s a heads up for you.

Of course its disappointing news, but these things happen. Only thing users that will continue to use this in the future can do, is when its back up, change passwords, fake your addresses, and start purchasing PSN cards.

Felix is right.

Their doing their job. They've investigated, and probably should have told users about the personal information leak maybe a bit sooner. But like any big business, you'd be told to investigate, and then give a deep post about the impact of what has happened/been taken.

I guess maybe their protocols need to be reviewed, but either way, seeing how users, and news outlets were attacking PSN for even being down. If they left it up, then came out and said, last week we found an attack happened, and info was taken, everyone would have said, “Why didn’t you take it offline, and do an investigation, and find out what happened/look into it?”

Just can’t win with consumers. Nothing Is ever 100% secure. No matter what company or service it is. Sony has been dodging attacks this gen more than most. Its interesting to see some of the people who supported Anonymous and hackers, are now feeling the impact.

Let's hope I don't have to start all over building up my Crysis achievements and rank. Also glad I hadn't used my credit card with the ps3. I really hope they actually fix it after all this time without PSN. It would be irritating if after waiting all this time, it just gets hacked by some idiot again. The official release from Playstation is here: http://us.playstation.com/support/answer/index.htm?a_id=2185. Any other ideas about what happened is just hyperbole.

Look, at the moment its irrelevant whether or not the hacker scum made off with our card details because they get everything else. They know my PSN ID, password, DOB, address, phone number... hell, they even know i'm British. That's enough information for someone to commit fraud, and before anyone goes 'you can get that off an electoral roll'... yes you can, but it got swiped from a security lacking server. Still debating whether or not to cancel my debit card.

And just think, some people DEFENDED hackers after Sony's crusade against GeoHot! About how they 'only want homebrew', 'aren't thieves' and 'fight for our interests'. Hackers are scum. No ifs or buts. Scum. Hope they burn in hell.

Thats it for me.

Now that everyone has felt it. (Those who are indeed users of the network) Are now saying that Sony is to blame? Yes, partly they are. They should have realised the threat long ago, years ago, and improved security back then. But, most of the people who are raging like mad, are the same people who sat and supported hackers/Geo/Anonymous.

I am thankful that i have no credit card information on the store, but to all you guys who have, tell your parents or whoever owns the card, to check your online bank once every few hours, and i truly hope that all of your information is safe, i really do,

I hope Sony can keep it safe but from what has been said, its very dodgy

Also i have changed all my passwords for everything, its a good idea to,

Once again i really hope all of your details are safe.

even though its not totally clear what PSN will have back up and running on the 3rd it will stil be nice being able to log in and change my info as needed. hopefully will beable get back into sum games and hoop on sum noobs. plus

Sony will hold a press conference to discuss the company's recent security breach of its PlayStation Network services, Reuters reports.

Executive deputy president Kazuo Hirai will address the media on Sunday afternoon in Japan to discuss a variety of issues, including updates on its investigation behind the breach and when the Network is scheduled to become operational again.

The conference takes place at 2:00 PM in Tokyo (1:00 AM EST/10:00 PM PST).

what site you can go to in order to watch the press conferance i do not know yet. but hopefully they will clear the rest of what people have been asking about and not just re state the same things theyve already said. turns out they did do what i hoped they wouldnt hears the link for the conference wrap up
