I'm not saying that its 100% true, but that's what some people think. Its been reported on some other sites as well.

Though we don't know anything until Sony tell us otherwise.

OK, so I called Sony, and Gamestop. What i was told, was that a server caught on fire, and they shut down most of the network servers to prevent any loss of damage. They were supposed to be back online last night before 3am Eastern Time. What they are doing now is, I think, they are going to fly in a backup server, copy all the data that was on the server that caught on fire, and then put the new server in, and turn everything on. Sony is doing everything they can to make this work. I know that the hackers are the one to blame, and i know they will probably be reading this, so if you hackers have a problem with Sony, don't mess with the gamers. I predict that network will be up and running again around 5 pm eastern time, or at latest 9pm eastern time. I could be wrong, that is just my guess. Please let me know your thoughts. And if anybody has tried to get on, the are putting the sever up, and it displays the message' "Playstation Network is currently under maintenance." they have fixed the server and have started system back up. So as i said before, i guess they will be back on between 5pm-9pm Eastern time.

I'm not saying this guy IS telling the truth. this is just what i have SEEN,
This post was made BEFORE the official update was said about an external intrusion.

If he is telling the truth then maybe we will have it back soon, but i dont know,

Lets just hope Sony sort the problem

Thats what it says on mine now when i try to log on: "Playstation Network is currently under maintenance."

I wonder of this network down time gives Crytek any extra breathing room to make improvements, or if it actually stops their progress with testing

Also, with PSN down and nobody playing on PS3, maybe a good time to switch from p2p to dedicated servers for PS3? if its a success do the same for 360. Extremely unlikely I know but just a thought.

You're gonna need an advantage like ded servers against a game like Brink, which also sells itself on it's parkour and extra player agility to differentiate itself from other FPS's.

Yeah, just read it on CVG. Anonymous have said it wasn't them but it might be some of their members acting alone.

Well, sounds right that they shut it down, and at least they told us.

Don't you read? it wasn't me who wrote it? it was on CNET under the news, and thats why i said "If he is telling the truth"

i know dude everyone wants to know whats going on, just follow there twitter blog always works for me, then post when you find out more. You think about it in 5 years there has never been a server fire and then recently these hacks have been occurring frequently its obvious whats going on. Its just sad that we all have to suffer because of some wana be hackers, if i was a real hacker i'd rather be hacking banks and high security installations. There just a joke in my eyes

they would of updated and said it was a fire, i think they would rather disclose that information then say it was hackers, in fairness to them though they were honest and id rather them shut down the servers and imrpove security then have someone access my bank details.
