Rage already ruined?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 3:58 pm

I wonder if people flamed as much as they do in this thread, when Half-Life 2 came out...

I would have...if I actually enjoyed the series,which I did not.

its funny to see that ppl judge games by quantity of content in it
to be honest fallout 3 and borderlands are great examples how not to do this
dozens of weapons, but 90% of them just useless crap
or weapon shops in borderlands in most cases they offer weapons that not even near what you already found

I thought they were discussing about the replay value in the game, not the amount of guns in the game? The crappy weapons in FO3 weren't useless if you were at the right level in which they were appropriate to use.Once you get to a higher level, most of the weapons you use will obviously be crappy because you already managed to get something useful for your level while enemies still use the crappy gear to add some realism. It would be awful if it was like Oblivion and all humanoid enemies wear full Daedra...

I wouldn't say that it's ruined but I wouldn't think it would be as enjoyable.I love shooters and all but it would have been better if this game did have more RPG elements in the form of character progression/customization.A 15 hour single player pure shooter wouldn't last long even with co-op and gorgeous visuals. It'll lack extra things once you're done with everything.IMO of course.

from what ive seen, there will be a nice amount of replay value. The different weapons you get look insane, and the action looks intense. It looks more like a sandbox game instead of a pure shooter. Like a mix of fallout 3 and a shooter like cod. Which i love sandbox games, there is so much to explore. But then again i could be wrong, we will just have to see.

el oh el? In terms of co-op with fps shooter you can't do much better than borderlands. The rpg elements were just the icing on the cake.

Lol what? L4D....

there are 8 co-op "levels" that are not a part of the main game. I don't think its going to be sandbox at all.

RPG only adds replayable value, so I don't know why anyone is defending it that it shouldn't be a rpg or was never intended to be a rpg. Why make a sandbox shooter and then only add in only a limited amount of rpg elements? Because there ARE rpg elements in the game. The developers have already stated it as such. So why not go the extra 10 yards with it? I don't get it. It feels like its lacking many components that add to replayability.

And the co-op being shunned off to the side doesn't help this games situation at all. Lol @ 2 player only / pukes.

Lol have you ever looked at GTA? Completely sandbox and it has almost no rpg elements, only one that had any rpg elements were GTA: SA. And then again there still wasnt many. People still played it? It was great and still is. So why not do the same thing but in FPS? If they go an extra 10 yards then its gonna turn into a borderlands spin off. Its not an rpg, its a shooter, get over it.

Actually I made a huge topic on Borderlands forum saying exactly that, the concept of infinite weapons permutations is fundamentally flawed. The best mix would be between the Mass Effect 1 weapon mods and Resident Evil 4 upgrade system and weapon variety.

Btw I would be totally sold on Rage if you could upgrade your sentry in a variety of meaningful ways and each upgrade would be visually represented.

I must say, I was quite impressed http://www.gametrailers.com/video/the-shrouded-rage/713568.
Now imagine if you could build your character to specialize in certain weapons, sentries and drones with each upgrade based on your abilities and accompanied by visual change on each item...oh well..

P.S.
Have developers already said how much was sacrificed for PC version since consoles are last gen hardware, even current low to mid range PC has 3-4 times greater CPU and GPU power along with memory etc..so will the PC version be significantly dumbed down graphically so console version don't look horrible in comparison like with all other multiplatform games?

Interviews have talked about how they built this engine so that it will be optimized for each of the platforms and PC releases out of the gate and they wont have to port anything over.
do some digging and check out some of the QUAKECON tech demos from around '97.
tehres a lot going on with Tech5 that people seem to be glossing over.

and as for the rest of the stuff you mentioned, remember they are shipping a game editor with PC copies.. fairly sure if you want it and have the skills, it can be implemented.

This is exactly why we shouldn't be listening to you. One measly feature would make you certain about the entire game.

For the PC it would be nice if we could do away with the console selection system that appears in the trailers. I have lots of keys and the 'bring up the selection box' and chose an aspect gets old real quick. It destroys immersion too. Never liked that and it's appearing in all the console ports, Crysis is an example although in the original you could set keys for many things.

As for the online component Rage would be best if it had only one online mode-->Killing Floor type co-op survival for up to 6 players with Dead Space 2 type structured objectives.

Killing Floor is still one of the most played online games, just imagine it with superb animation, graphics and even better enemies and their variety, classes and skill advancing would be a must too.

Now tell me if you still think that ID is not clueless.

@OP
A good game is a good game, a game that svcks is a game that svcks. You won't know if you like it or not until you play it yourself. The fact you're posting here says you're more than slightly interested. There are many pure shooters out there that are very good games and have communities that are still creating content for them. Some are a decade old or more like Doom, Quake, Unreal Tournament, Duke Nukem, etc. I think ID knows what they're doing. Try the game. If you don't like it, don't play it.
