RAGE cfg maker

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 10:11 am

I knew it wouldn't be too long before someone came up with something like this. Good work.

Those textures aren't actually in the game though.

Thanks like i said i haven't tested the 16k x 16k setting yet but good to know I won't have to now thanks. :)

your DNA server crashed, bro.

guess your config creation hotfix was too popular under the bandwidth stress, lolol

I've been forwarding it to all my friends...

Indeed the server is under allot of stress at the moment, but it shouldn't be giving DB issues I'm going through the server logs but can't find anything interesting. Only thing I can think off is the "how much users are online" plugin as it stores user/guest data inside the database to keep track of how many users are visiting the site and on what page they are. And thanks for telling your friends, I hope they find the tool useful as well

Awesome bro, thats just awesome thankyou!

just a small suggestion tho, if theres someway you can set the output to put // before the echo so the engine doesnt try and use echo as a command, i noticed in my console it says unknown command echo quite a few times, that way we can just copy and paste the whole thing :)

this is strange, as it should echo the echo to say so. I have added this so it's more easy for users (and myself) to keep track of the version of the CFG you're using and the changes that have been made. It should just echo the values at least it does for me. I also had reports the:
"Emptying the virtual texture physical cache" isn't done at the last line after loading the CFG for some users. Could you go into the console and type
"logFile" and hit enter and tell me the default:"*" value?

thats my console after exec rageconfig.cfg

@ rest
it's 2:44 at my side of the globe and I have finished adding some Sound settings (not in the public tool yet). As for the resolutions I don't think it's possible to add a custom resolution option as it's working via r_mode and as far as i know r_mode will differ with it's settings depending on what drivers and what Monitor/resolutions you can run (driver related i think)

I hope to release it later today when I wake up as i must head to my bed now.

After updating to the current patch, I'm now experiencing CTD after about 3 or 4 minutes of starting a savegame in Wellspring.

Could this be a conflict with the rageconfig.cfg file? I'm testing now by removing the cfg file from the /base/ directory.

EDIT: Fixed: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1238952-how-to-fix-wellspring-savegame-crash-post-oct-8-patch/

this is great! i can't believe that an end user came up with the solution and the developer didn't.
up close the textures still look blurry but the overall image quality is significantly improved. works slightly better with the 285.38 betas than with the WHQL 275.33s.
now we just have to wait for nVidia and AMD to come up with more improvements in the drivers.

only one thing, i can't turn on vsync in the menu, so i'll have to force it on in the nVidia control panel.

edit: i noticed looking through the console that it says "Unknown command 'vt_restart'" so i don't think that command is working.

edit again: the game is crashing in Wellspring within a minute of loading it...

The Wellspring issue isn't related to the rageconfig.cfg but the new patch (just browse the forums a bit) I could never use Vsync from the ragecfg/run options as the game will crash instantly for me as well If i force Vsync in-game.

I will update the game asap when I return home and "try" to fix any current issues and update the tool with some Sound setting options.

I really like this tool, but it still doesn't solve the texture streaming issues introduced by this patch from last night.

It′s questionable if this issue can be solved by any other than Software ID themselves. They should really take up speed for now.The last update was a joke, yeah more Setttings, should have been there for release AND much more complex.
More shocking was the fact that they were SURPRISED :D that PC gamers complained about the missing settings....C′moooon! Hope they won′t mess up Doom 4 :P

Well, since I had it working perfectly last night before they patched the game, I'd have to disagree with you. I think they do have the power to solve this, but are actually making things worse.

This looks very promising, but I have no idea what to select, lol. I'm not totally ignorant when it comes to pc "stuff", but a few of those options, I was like "huh?". so i'll list my specs and if u, or anyone, could possibly tell me what options I should go with, it would be greatly appreciated! Right now, I'm experiencing bad "checkerboard" textures, real bad in the Prison and Hospital, no more "stuttering" or slow, freezing motions since I turned off Catalyst AI, but my biggest problem is CRASHING, lol. Every time I load a new area, it's a goner and I know quite a few ppl r having the same problem, but the last couple times, it crashed during gameplay.

I've downloaded the new 11.10 preview AMD Rage driver, got the Rage patch, too, have vsync turned on smart (have to, anything else looks horrible), anti-aliasing is none (messed with it a bit, not much difference), anisotropic filter-low, texture cache-large, resolution-800x600 (4:3). Just tried to play it, as we speak, and crashed...again...at The Authority Prison. I load the game, take 2 steps and freeze, CTD. Help, lol. Thx!

dxdiag-

Windows Vista Home Premium 6.0
Dell Inspiron 530
Pentium Dual-Core CPU E5200 @ 2.50GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory-3326MB
DirectX 11
ATI Radeon HD 3450
version 8.17.0010.1099

Not sure how much info u need, but hope this helps! Thx for the help! xoxo

I did a bit more experimenting with the settings.

With the following graphics settings and no rageconfig.cfg file, the appearance is excellent on my laptop at 1920x1080 and about the same as it was prior to the patch, when I was using the cfg file from KillerSneak's website:

1. Texture Cache @ Large
2. AA @ 8x
3. AF @ High
4. vsync @ Smart

At this moment I'm still trying to figure out my own settings after the "Patch/Fix" (more like Patch/downgrade imho). All I can say is play around with the settings a bit and see what works best for you.

No rageconfig.cfg for me = instant crash.

I haven't even seen the Intro Movie of the game as of yet as I can't

New patch and new "AMD v2 11.10" preview dirvers aren't realyl working for me

My system:
Windows 7 x64 professional
MSI 790FX-GD70 - MoBo
AMD Phenom II 965 BE (3.4GHz)
4GB - 4096 RAM (OCZ DDR3 Reaper 1600)
Sapphire HD 5870 Toxic 2GB - core 925 / mem 1225

and still you can simply not set all the settings provided by the CFG maker. The options in-game are very limited and not up to par.

This is almost awesome! Lol. Seriously though, this almost fixes all of my problems and I've tried everything since last Tuesday. The only problem I have now is, I still get the black squares all over the place. Not as bad mind you, but still there enough that they're incredibly annoying. What part of the config has the most to do with the black squares so I can play with those settings directly, and not mess up the massive improvements I see in everything else?

Thank you VERY much for your time and effort on this, it appears you've made several folks out there much happier.

"Use compressed sound files (mp2/xma)" / leave this at 1 - default // s_useCompression "1" <- ill change this in the 1.3 version.

also if it's not too much trouble could you add the ability to choose stereo, 5.1 or 7.1 audio?

Wow... that looks like a lot of options.

What I would like to see are presets like "AMD 1GB Maximal quality - quad core " or "Nvidia 1 GB Minimal quality - dual core".

Does that also mean I can ditch the Steam start settings ( I have currently: +r_swapInterval 1 +vt_maxPPF 16 +vt_pageImageSizeUnique 8192 +vt_pageImageSizeUniqueDiffuseOnly 8192 +vt_pageImageSizeUniqueDiffuseOnly2 8192) as described here: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1237804-i-got-my-copy-working-very-well-with-dual-amd-6870 and *only* use the rageconfig.cfg in "*your install location*\rage\base\". Can set defaults in Catalyst too with having this?

I will try to get some - Presets online this week. But we need some base lines for this? Maybe it would be handy if people could post their generated RAGE CFG here, along with their system specs?

So do I copy and paste the whole output code, from top to bottom after it's generated? Didn't know if those first few lines "echo Do Not Argue, etc" need to be copied, too, just want to copy the right stuff, lol. Thx again!
