Rating (T, or M?)

Post » Thu Oct 22, 2009 5:11 am

I haven't come across much info on the subject, but what do you all think Skyrim will be rated? Oblivion was suppose to be Teen, but it went Mature because of a naked skin that wasn't even in the game. I don't expect Skyrim to be any worse than Oblivion in terms of violence and swear words. So, I'm thinking it will be Teen, but the ESRB will somehow manage to rate it Mature.

What do you guys think?

I think they gave up on ratings and are just going directly for Mature, or whatever it turns out to be.

M, besides I hope it is more mature, something along the lines of FO would be nice.

Actually, that's not quite it.

In the statement the ESRB made, they said they also didn't realize that Oblivion had as much gore as it did. They did not know about the dead, hanging bodies in some dungeons, or the decayed state of some of the corpses one can come across.

The nvde skin prompted the second look, but the rest of the game sealed the deal.

The nvde skin on the disk was not the only factor for the rating change - the gore also played a part.

M. It didn't hurt OB's sales, and would allow more room for creativity.

Judging from the fact that you have to be 17+ to join the Facebook page, I am going to assume it will be M.

I would be surprised if they didn't include a gore system similar to FO3. They already worked out the technical details and obviously most players want decapitation and dismemberment. Unlike nudity, which is childish and not appropriate for people below the age of 50 (and even then it may cause traumata). So I guess it will be M with lots of horrible gore and zero nudity (but maybe a sequel to 'The Lusty Argonian Maid'...hu hu :blush2: ).

I think it was more because of the heads on pikes and other gruesome mutilations strewn throughout the Deadlands.

All right, who voted T? :brokencomputer:

M all the way. Might as well let Disney make it otherwise.

If they "gave up on ratings", then they wouldn't be going for M or any other rating. They'd just make whatever game they want and let ESRB sort the ratings out, which I actually hope is what they're doing. Granted, if Skyrim turns out to be everything I want it to be, it will be rated M, I'm sure. But I don't want them to go out of their way to make a game that is likely to get rated M just so they can have a big "M" on the box, I want them to try to make the best game they can, I just happen to feel that adding some content that might increase the game's rating would allow it to be better.

As to which rating it WILL get, that's impossible to say. Because we know very little about the game, if we knew more, maybe we could guess the rating by the content of the game, but right now, we just don't have that kind of information. But I think it's safe to rule out the game being rated anything less than T, at least, and I can't imagine the game getting an AO rating, so really, the only options are T, and M. Which it gets, I think, will depend mostly on the amount of blood and gore in the game, since I doubt will see nudity and any sixual content will probably be implied, like in Morrowind and Oblivion, and I hardly expect to see much swearing in the game.

All right, who voted T? :brokencomputer:

M all the way. Might as well let Disney make it otherwise.

If it was made by Disney, it would probably be rated E. And in any case, the question was what will Skyrim be rated, not what it should be rated. And Morrowind was rated T, as was Oblivion, until ESRB decided to change the rating, supposedly because the game had more gore than they were previously led to believe, I still have my doubts about the truth of their claim, but that's not what we're here to discuss. Since it's nothing new for Elder Scrolls games to be rated T in the past, based on what little we know so far, it's not unreasonable to consider the possibility that Skyrim will also be a T rated game.

Is it really gonna' matter what the game's rated? The way some of you people act, it's like you're afraid the disc'll come to life and buzzsaw your manhood off if it isn't Mature.

M, every Elder Scrolls game save Morrowind has been M I believe. I see no reason for it to be different this time around, especially with an updated engine.

If it does turn out T though, I wouldn't mind too terribly. I would be somewhat disapointed, I would hope they would take some of the dark fantasy ideas from Oblivions Darker parts and some ideas from Dragon Age, but Morrowind was T and my favorite in the series, so I don't think the rating usually has much of an effect on the quality of the game, unless the developer scraps good ideas to make a rating quota.

It should be M rated, no point in restricting devs creativity and trying to go T, only to have it changed to M anyway because of some stupid detail.

I'm hoping for M, just because that way they can include tasteful nudity and more advlt themes.

Which really do add a lot to a medieval setting.

I think that the rating will be argumentative ;)

T = "what? It's not mature enough! Where's the gore, the drugs, the boob physics! This is terrible!, but it's going to reach the teenies who have th emost disposable income, so it'll be a best seller!"

M="What? that's crap! Now my mom won't buy it for me! This svcks! This is great, real boob physics and blood dripping off the decapitated head!"
