Yeah, I've read an article and and interview by thee Avelone. He says its a trait, and his word is law.
Well... his word is lauded anyway. :)

A small warehouse, inside it are 1 feral ghoul, he cannot die, even if you sever his head he will still move around, even if you splatter his body his organs will constantly try to find you. (RotLD) (Film)
A cliff, a hand on top with half a cuffs on it, on the ground below, 20 meters down, there's a body of a man in gray pants and a hawaian shirt, dead. (Creepshow (IIRC))

Just the Indian chief carving would be something.

None.
Cultural references is one thing, TV shows references are just annoying. I guess one TV show reference could pass as a cultural reference, but more than one, er, no.

I say their should be a guy saying "the drums, the constant sound of drums beating in my head." (he's clearly insane) he then tries to kill you and if you kill him, another guy with a different face says it.

or perhaps 3 kids on the strip, one tries to scam you for 25 bottle caps, one says alot of smart things, the other probably has down syndrome talking about buttered toast and gravy

anyone else?

NONE.

**Why isn't it a trait then? (traits are optional right?)

It is a trait. Guess Sawyer had a little slip of the tongue.

Since this game is more of a western, I'd like to see references to stuff like Deadwood (a saloon called The Gem), Unforgiven (an township that is totally anti-ghoul and has displayed a ghoul "outlaw" in a coffin on the boardwalk, Good Bad and the Ugly (maybe Eastwood's outfit), and others....

I'm surprised that I haven't seen anyone suggesting Glee and Big Bang Theory references.... **shudder**

I just forgot to add the smiley to give it context.

"I can't imagine who" :whistling: See? All better.

Haha the power of a smiley :)

I agree that too much is no good and exploding brahmin is definitely too much lol.

But I still don't understand how something as simple as the holy grenade is "too much". It's just a single random grenade chillin on a box or wherever in a corner somewhere with the name "holy grenade".. I hardly see how it's game breaking for anyone even if you found it without having wild wasteland.

Personally I couldn't give a [censored] either way :fallout: lol

I'd like to see a Doctor Who reference. By that I mean we could see a broken/destroyed blue box (the TARDIS) lying amongst the rubble.

It'd be sad though, that would mean that the Doctor went to 2077 to see what was up and...died. :sadvaultboy:

Or maybe we see a character that looks like the 11th Doctor wearing a bowtie, a fez, and mop and he says "My mop/fez/bowtie is cool!" every time you initiate conversation with him.

On an unrelated note, speaking of 'River's, how about a Firefly reference? New Vegas looks Western enough to pull it off. Maybe just a unique rifle named Vera.

Because it wouldn't just be a grenade named "holy grenade". If the easter egg is remotely similar to the same one in Fallout 2, it will have its own model (a gold grenade with a metal cross on top), and will have the destructive power to one hit kill anything in the game. Oh, and you had to get past a massive fight between King Arthur's knights in Power Armor and a rabbit to get it. Not exactly low-key, you dig?

Besides, the Holy Hand Grenade is a confirmed easter egg if you have the Wild Wasteland trait. (Yeah, I guess Sawyer just had a slip, Gizmo, because he did mention in the same interview that you chose whether or not you wanted Wild Wasteland at the beginning of the game.) If you don't have the trait, you'll just find a mini-nuke instead.

I wouldn't be upset to see it in a normal game if the joke were as simple as you suggest, a regular grenade, perhaps found on a church podium, that says "holy grenade" when you look at it. That would be subtle enough for me.

And maybe inside a church rubble with the sign 'Antioch' in front of the church to make more sense to the joke.

My whole problem with Easter Eggs in a game as Fallout, is there is the fine line between funny and just plain obnoxious. The spammer one in F2 I didnt get until I read its meaning, but the shuttle crash, even > I < know what it was from. ._.

To be honest just having a normal grenade named "holy grenade" seems a bit too subtle, almost a bit lazy. I always thought the way Fallout 3's "unique" weapons didn't look any different was lazy. I'd feel the same way if they didn't fully model the holy hand grenade of antioch in its full glory.

You're right about the knights though- that was a bit too much and I could do without them.

Yeah something subtle like that would be perfect but I think the grenade should still look unique, I hated it how unique weapon's/armor in F3 didn't look any different from the regular version.

The Holy Hand Grenade has already been done, I can't believe its to be used twice ~well... I suppose I can believe it, but I don't want to. :(

Its not accurate (at all), but I can't help thinking that this is like (and again, its not), but I just keep envisioning a bewildered group of suited execs that all resemble Peter O' Toole,
sitting around a boardroom table struggling with the alien concept of "just what do these loopy beatniks want?"; "What appeals to them?" "Try what worked last time."...

Definitely a reference to "Chuck". Maybe have a shop owner named "Grimes" that goes through special dialog if you bring Arcade along with you.

J.E. Sawyer hated the jokes and silliness in Fallout 2 as well, and as project lead for New Vegas he vetoed other developer staff from adding them in to Vegas, insisting that everything be of a serious tone. However, it was recognized that some fans loved the jokes (I can't imagine who), so the Wild Wasteland perk was created so that players who wanted silliness could take it and see jokes and references and easter eggs, and the people that wanted a serious post-apocalyptic world with no Monty Python would never have to run into those things in their game by simply not taking the Wild Wasteland perk. So now I am good with all the discussions of jokes and silliness people want to see included, because even if it is, I'll never have to see it.

J.E. Sawyer is a party-pooper. As in everytime he poops, an amazing game comes out.

Well if it's a Vertibird then we need to have someone screaming "GET TO THE CHOPPA!" while an invisible Nightkin is after you. :P
