Wow, so gameinformer gives it a 9.5/10 huh? According to them Arkham City is a better game.
Oh, GI.. You disappoint me.

Germans, like most of northern Europe, doesn't care for the cowboy, rush in, overpowered demigod kind of story. We will like it and play it, and even secretly enjoy it. Like reality tv here in america. A great story for most Germans would be dark, suspenseful, and with an equal chance of a happy/terrible ending. Like masterpiece theater.

I am 100% German and I approve of this message. I was actually kind of worried about the shouts because they seemed so powerful. But then, your typical TES game lets you make up all the stories you could ever want, so I should be fine ;-)

Do you see what I'm getting at here at least? You aren't asking yourself important questions, the kind of questions developers spend weeks having meetings about before they even start building the actual game.
What you're actually doing here is discussing a co-op design done in the dumbest way possible. No offense meant, but that is what you're doing. You're intentionally describing a design doomed to fail. Your version of co-op has more in common with an MMO, or at the very least describes a scenario where two people playing in the same world together, but not actually playing together cooperatively. Together we could design a single-player game just as poorly and say "see.. single player doesn't work!", which obviously isn't accurate.

The solution to your problem is to not design the co-op experience in such an ill conceived way. There are simple safeguards that can be put in place to prevent all of the problems you're talking about. Some of them may be more intrusive than others, but nobody is forcing you to play the game co-op if you don't like the way it works. It's a bit silly to act like co-op gameplay can't work when it's existed in gaming for the last 20+ years.

pretty much all german magazines (xbox version so pc version probably a little bit better) claim: it's what we expected, not less but also not more - and give it 90%

they all criticize the same two things mostly

a.) weak story / character / dramaturgy

b.) horrible menues

thats basically the major flaws, the later and the other minor stuff (same quests, dungeons, enemies etc. repeat all the time and get somewhen boring) can probably get patched or modded

story is an issue...we'll see

(quote from gamestar: story fits on a beer coaster and the characters have about as much depth as one, but who cares? that has to be expected from an elder scrolls...)....lol

Have you read the http://www.gamereactor.de/Kritiken/8095/The+Elder+Scrolls+V%3A+Skyrim/?sid=4c999758de170b0293a0bb2788d698ff? They gave Skyrim a 10/10

I have only read the translation, so perhaps I'm missing something, but I didn't notice any criticism of the story or the menus.

Graphics: 9
Playability: 10
Sound: 9

Salvador Dalí's The Persistence of Memory looks great. However, I just think it should have looked more... realistic. So I give him a 9 out of 10.

Ridiculous. The day TES has co-op or online gameplay will be the day I quit the series.

Oh really?

What about this anology then: if I buy an advertised multiplayer game, which focus solely on the multiplayer aspect, the fact that I can't play singleplayer supposedly makes the game inferior.

You think that is right? Obviously not.
Yes, a multiplayer game that doesn't support single-player play would likely receive lower marks due to that fact. Outside of MMOs, every game designed for multiplayer (other than social party games) has single-play available as an option. Hunted: The Demon's Forge and War in the North are recent examples of such titles built around cooperative play but still designed to be played solo if desired.

Even MMOs get criticized when they don't offer some form of single-player advancement. This wasn't always the case, but it has been for the last five or so years because it's become the norm over time. And game developers have to evolve their concepts with the times or risk losing business.

I awoke to the embargo having been lifted and reviews of Skyrim everywhere. I expected some good reviews but I'm astounded how good and how many are so good. So I came to the forum and noticed we don't have many threads discussing the reviews and just wanted to start a thread where we could sort of keep up with them and discuss them.

*Important note: Some of the linked reviews contain spoilers. If you don't want to know, don't click*

That is all I've gotten to so far but :celebration: Those are some awesome reviews. Enjoy reading them and feel free to add any you may have stumbled across.

Just merged in some duplication - we don't need a fresh thread for each individual review :)

Ah, I remember when Fallout 3 came out, and people were sceptical because they didn't believe that any game could really merit a 10/10 ... and then they played it and there was much nibbling of headgear. :D

Roll on tomorrow!
