Sadly this is not the Elder scrolls we know and love

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 9:52 am

Look at the level of computer technology available today and the bandwith availabe to most households.. IMO it isn't possible to makea
multiplayer massive online experience that plays like a single player game with ur buddies in it(4 ppl co-op maybe). The day they can
make an elder scrolls envisioned world with me and 500 other people on a server without every npc being a mannequin im down for it.

Make me a Elder scrolls online game and give me a multiplayer coop aspect and splatter some mmo elements like crafting and other low
bandwith intersting elements for now and ill be satisfied.. but dont make me have to play another cookie cutter MMO.

There's a pretty big difference in MMO quality out there. If this game is like DAOC with TES lore, I'll be very happy. If it is like WOW or SWTOR, I'll not sub for long.

Yeah I was subbed with TOR for two months then dropped. Took 15 of my friends with me. Just found better things to do with out time and our money.

Maybe they will do something amazing and the game play will be awesome and they won't rely on "Elder Scolls" in the title to sell it, but I doubt it.

This game will be an order of magnitute more challenging than Skyrim. Just responding to your idea that they dumbed it down. You'll have to manage your gear, your stats, your character build. Learn to use interrupts and block and sprint without blowing all your stamina. Skyrim was rediculously easy, especially with all the broken abilities - ZOS will have to balance and patch abilities that are overpowered (this is a PVP game) - let's just get real, please.

I have seen to many mmo's try to balance PVE and PVP, what usually happens is the pvpers whine, the pve people sufffer, the casual players and roleplayers suffer and as the game is rebalanced and nerfed over time the risk vs reward balance is tweaked towards the hardcoe guilds and raiders profit, grind grind grind..sorry done that before in many mmo's.

Man, everything looks super-generic. The armor, the game world, etc. The lore is probably going to be even less interesting than Oblivions.

Ive seen Hist, Kagouti, a Storm Aronach, Ayleid ruins, High Rock architecture, Dunmer riding giant bugs..
I dont really know what you mean by generic, it seems very TES to me.

I do see the TES but I also see the layer of MMO over it. Hard to explain really.

If I saw those screens but didn't know it was an MMO, but I did know it was Elder Scrolls I would come to the conclusion that they were from an TES MMO...

I see, thats certainly possible.
I dont have much experience with MMO's so I suppose I dont really have anything to compare it to.

It happens when you try to have 2 different systems for PVP and PVE. From what I can tell these guys are going the same route as DAOC - all skills and armor are identical for pvp and pve. Did you play DAOC?

Hey man I'm not trying to ruin your day. My initial reaction may have been shock and horror to this game, but if it doesn't mess up my single player games, I hope the MMO rocks for you. :)

The failure of this MMO will only help destroy generic MMOs, not TES.

Im cautiously optimistic
But Im not the sort that lets someone else spoil his fun with an opinion, so no worries.I enjoy other points of views and opinions because they help me form a balanced picture.
What attracts me to the concept of this game is that a lot of people interested in the lore and roleplaying will gather there and there will be opportunities to roleplay with other people in the virtual TES universe.
Some start to that has already been made on the lore forum.

My main concern is the lore. Will Falinesti be a walking tree? Will there be subtype of Khajiit NPC's in Elseweyr and Imga NPC's in Summurset?
Vivec is at the height of his power and MK is not involved in the writing for the game. That one scares me a little :ahhh:
Its important the Triune is done justice.
A disregard for established lore, too much retcon and disneyfication would be a dealbreaker for me.

As far as gameplay goes, I cant really form an opinion until Ive played at least a beta, due to lack of comparable experiences.

When I read about this story I came to these boards in a furious rage. After reading other peoples opinions and thoughts, I still think I'm not going to pick this game up, but I'm less angry now. If I the Single Player TES continues without a bump, more power to the MMO community.

Its when MMOs start replacing Single Player games thats when I start to sweat a bit. Still a little miffed I didn't get my Knight of the Old Republic 3. :(

So far it looks like another " WOW with good graphics"

not impressed so far... i'd much rather it be like skyrim, but 1000 times larger ( world that is) and without the broken enchanting and blacksmithing so its fair.

so far it looks like it's just another wow clone with its own twist. I mean it could be good but first impression isn't anything special.

when i think of an elderscrolls online i think of all of tamriel, no fast travel and it just being this open world, with all the dungeons and such that was in oblivion and skyrim and such. you can go do what you want, you can get people to go with you or stay home
you can open up your own shop and stuff who knows.

also how will theft be in the game? stealing stuff from a shop will break the game economy.

That's because unlike other Elder scrolls game this isnt singleplayer, it's an MMO hence it looks like an mmo, now see that? That was logic I used there.

In the Video game world we are promised nothing. This is fact.

You can't deny the trend to jump on the MMO bandwagon to get a piece of the MMO pie though.

I'm sorry, have we seen a Mario, Zelda or Halo MMO that I didn't know about?

Maybe a Pokemon one? Twisted Metal? How about Ratchet and Clank? Uncharted? Oh I know, Gears of War made one, right? No? Maybe.. maybe Fire Emblem did? Kirby? Metroid?

Yeah, I'm a bit scared about that, too. But the team is 250 members strong, I guess someone there has to be an MK- and Morrowind really devoted fan!
And I hope we can have Senche mounts, although I don't expect to be able to play as one. That would be wicked.

... Hm, or maybe both? Playing as a mount? :D
