Sadly this is not the Elder scrolls we know and love

Hello,
I have not posted here much over the years but I have been a loyal follower of your games since Arena, lost count of the amount of hours spent in dungeons and wilderness in your world, our world.

You could have done an ultimate win, a version of skyrim that allowed 4 player co-op allowed people to join each others world, experience our stories and quest together, visit the homes we made, play our mods with us.

Instead we get from what I have read a doac reskin with GW2 graphics and swtor/wow combat.

Yes maybe I am being harsh but this will not be the games we know and love.

The combat, mmo combat is so different from what we love, the ability to crouch, to fight in real time.., freeform quest progression (speed run oblivion at level 1 anyone ?) houses, exploration, romance and a storyline based around you.

Elderscrolls was never stuck in the healer/tank/nuker we never needed heroic dungeons or "raids" Every damn thing we ever did in an elder scrolls game was heroic even skillfully putting baskets on an npc's head.

Including collecting 600 embalming tools and keeping them in my desk draw! and lets be honest mods and player content made the elder scroll series truelly amazing.

I am not a hater of mmo's but this is so wrong to the core.

We don't know anything about it. There haven't been any screens whatsoever and there haven't been any gameplay news. There will be a screenshot later today though.

I still don't get it.
Are you all people oblivious about the gameinformer article, Thinking it doesn't reveal enough to be disappointed, or just choosing to ignore it on prupose.

You're right.

This isn't the single-player game you all know and love. This is an attempt at expanding the franchise into a new market and I, for one, hope it pays off.

I'm looking forward to seeing gameplay videos.

Some people are actually thrilled about the news and thus are not disappointed by the news. Those who are upset will not have to play the game and can continue to play Skyrim until TES VI comes out.

This will affect the single-player TES in absolutely no way, since its an entirely different studio behind the MMO. It would be extremely odd to have a new TES arrive so shortly after Skyrim came out. TES 6 will most likely come out on the next-generation consoles, in 4-7 years.

unless is a April fool joke running late... what's the point?
If a game says "Driving game" do I really need to wait an take the controller before saying "oh no, I have to drive, I don't like to drive"?
Granted taking the controller may reveal is the greatest driving games ever is still a Driving game.

If they announced 3 racial faction at war, it can be the most awesome 3 factions of the world, but if you don't like the base concept of the game you don't like the game...
Same for every feature announced

The mistake here is to see the game as part of the main TES RPG series.
It is not.

This game, like Redguard, Battlespire and the travel games takes place in the Tamriel universe and adheres to its lore, but it is not the same format as the main series.
And that is fine.

The important part here for me is if this game will overly retcon and break existing lore, and so far that does not seem to have happened.

I think its best to judge the game on its own merits, and remember that while it takes place in the TES universe, its not a TES RPG game, and shouldnt try to be one.
It should try to be a good MMO.

I know me personally would love to have friends visit my game world, my house and go on a quest with me, I mean the thought of me and friends sneaking through a household stealing everything, friends taking out guards, others looting everything and leaving before morning, retiring back to the thieves guild, 4-8 player co-op would fit this game so much, THAT would fit, exploring each others world but this, sorry this the info on game informer and other sites, it is just an mmo reskinned with elderscrolls lore.

TES was always freeform alway whatever you want. And to the reply above, you do not get it, a lot of us REALLY want a TeS multiplayer game but not this, this is just wrong.

I wasn't aware that Mario Kart, Gran Torismo and Twisted Metal played exactly the same in every way.

I'm cautiously optimistic.

You see, after stripping out nearly every aspect of the RPG genre from Oblivion and Skyrim I was just about to wash my hands of TES going forward. However, as MMOs are based exclusively on stats they are actually the one place left that allows actual RPG gameplay which means that this game may actually do a better job of representing the golden age of TES.

You always find the right words to express what I think and feel, Merari.

What little we know about the lore-aspects of TESO I find actually quite interesting. I'm really looking forward to read all the new books.

That crossed my mind as well. Although I would have prefered a free-form character system, I'm really curious about their approach. Especially the amount of classes.

Sadly, this is true. Sadly we have to pay monthly to get this experience.

The problem to me isn't so much that people don't like it - I perfectly understand that sentiment - but that, basically, the same few arguments are being repeated over and over again, often (though of course not always) by the same people. It isn't really adding anything useful to do that; bringing out the argument the first time, or the first few times, was useful, but after the first 50,000 times it does get a bit old.

As for this specific argument, he definition of the Elder Scrolls has always been the setting and storyline, not the mechanics, which have regularly changed between each game (and that's not getting into the two side games back in the late '90s). Said setting and storyline looks to still be there. You might not think it's a good game, and that's a perfectly valid opinion (if a very premature at this point), but that doesn't mean it's not an Elder Scrolls game.

This game will be an order of magnitute more challenging than Skyrim. Just responding to your idea that they dumbed it down. You'll have to manage your gear, your stats, your character build. Learn to use interrupts and block and sprint without blowing all your stamina. Skyrim was rediculously easy, especially with all the broken abilities - ZOS will have to balance and patch abilities that are overpowered (this is a PVP game) - let's just get real, please.

There's a pretty big difference in MMO quality out there. If this game is like DAOC with TES lore, I'll be very happy. If it is like WOW or SWTOR, I'll not sub for long.
