Scariest Non-Horror Games

I've gotta go with Metro too.

But oddly enough, the two biggest heart stoppers I've had came from Morrowind. The first was when I spotted that Silt Strider in Seyda Neen. The second was the crash of thunder coming out of nowhere. Of course I laughed at myself for being such a wimp.

I remember the first time I saw the Flood in Halo, I was abot 9 or 10, one of the scariest things I saw in that time. Never watched scary movies or video games, so it was a surprise to me, a bad surprise.

Deinitely Minecraft. Exploring a huge cave system for the first time, running low on torches and hearing zombies, skeletons and spiders all around is terrifying.

The first quest for the Brotherhood of Steel in Fallout - retrieve an artifact from The Glow. The music and the desolation in that place was unsettling.

Also, exploring dungeons in Arena with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQyUoi9_2FY& or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VW7fhKbvEPs&feature=relmfu music playing in the background.

Any games from LJN and Wisdom Tree.
Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde on the NES.
Back to the Future on the NES.
Back to the Future parts II and III and the NES.
Back to the Future Part III on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive.
Gyromite and Stackup/with R.O.B the robot.
I just got got finished with a AVGN marathon. You forgot "plumbers don't wear ties.'

I got to go with Ecco the Dolphine. That game is just creepy. I remember my parents rented it for me when I was like 6. I kept jumping at the beginning and everything in the ocean gets svcked out when you jump a certain height and plays creepy ass music.

I guess you could argue that Metro 2033 is a horror game, but I don't really count it as one. Either way, creepy as hell in parts. Especially the pipes. Good god, the pipes.

I found BioShock pretty creepy in places too.
The library I think it was also had its moments.

Operation Flashpoint, Arma and Arma 2 are the most "scary" non-horror games I know of - well, not exactly scary, but tense. The tension comes from the combat realism and having hard times spotting the enemy over the terrain.

Daggerfall dungeons; game set on very high reflexes.

^You are a very brave man.

I would say Dead Money, but other than the Holo-guards it never really got to me. Too much Silent Hill, I suppose. Its still my favorite DLC of all time, because the characters were amazing.

Vault 22 was pretty unnerving once you notice that
Spoiler
some of the infected you've been killing are children.

Vault 11, at the very end, had me so enthralled that I only just realized some [censored] was about to go down a few seconds before it hit the fan.

Yeah I agree----noone's that happy plus the Moon----if I went outside and looked up at the moon and it had a face on it that looked like it was constipated I'd be wondering what the hell.

Can't think of any non-horror, that made me jump/startle. Is System Shock2 considered a horror game? If not, that one definitely creeped me out a lot in many places.

Also, not scary so much as never-ending tension: any fast-paced NES game that had loud, stress-inducing music playing the entire time you were trying to do tricky jumps or whatever. Like Snake Rattle N Roll. http://youtu.be/KPMQg3xm2xg?t=3m50s (the guy in the vid makes it look easy but trust me, it wasn't. )

Setting my kitchen on fire in The Sims is honestly one of the scariest things that's happened to me in a game.

The Fire Brigade didn't arrive in time to save one of my housemates, who burned to a crispy end.

EDIT: I also hate the music that plays when a robber shows up. Half-scares me to death.

I know what you mean. Both of those are surprisingly scary.
