Serana's Age

But I don't think the few that survived the Dragonguard's genocide were fighting one another for territory. Some of them went into hiding, others were working for the mortals.

Even so, I already narrowed the date to sometime before St. Alessia's empire, another user argues it could be before the Nordic Empire, which is only a difference of a few years. Either way, the reman dynasty happened after both of these empires, so its irrelevant.

I wouldn't be surprised, honestly. Without Alduin or a Dragonborn to take the top spot, dragons try to take power. They've got an inherent need to dominate. I'd expect them to become quite territorial with each other. Unfortunately we don't know enough about how dragons lived day-to-day to say exactly how they'd act.

I don't think that's a given. She's surprised that Cyrodiil is the seat of an Empire, but if she was born during the 2E interregnum and entombed before Tiber Septim's rise (there were a few hundred years without a ruler), she would've lived without ever knowing a Cyrodiilic Empire first-hand.

True, but a quote coming from her says that she wonders why the dwemer left their city in disrepair. If she was born in the second era, she'd know that the dwarves dissapeared.

She says something along the lines of "why did the dwarves let their city get so run down", which could probably be taken as sarcastic (same as "this must be the wonderful Skyrim weather I've heard about." when it's raining or something).

If so then Serana has a terrible sense of humor.
I don't mean it to be snide, but it would be like me saying "so this must be the amazing Aurora Borealis I've been hearing about" if I were born and raised in the Arctic. We find her entombed in Skyrim. Her home (castle) is in Skyrim. Just these two facts suggest she would have spent some time in the lands, even if it were only a few years. I would think that she would have seen it snow or rain at some point.

No offense, but this seems really unlikely. She doesn't sound sarcastic at all in my opinion.

Pardon for the correction, but she had heard of Cyrodiil, just surprised to hear that it was the seat of an empire.

Serana's estimated age is 4,000 years. Didn't the dwemer only disappear 2,000-3,000 years ago if I am correct. So it is possible Serana met a dwarf or was in one of their cities after they disappeared before it got run down.

4,208 years at least, and yes that is possible. The dwemer disappeared 3751 years ago, so yes, its possible, and she'd have to be sealed away before then because she was surprised at the dwemer city in the dawnguard side mission being in such disrepair. Thats also how we know she wasnt born or sealed somewhere near the Reman dynasty time period, because he was crowned Emperor in 1 E 2703, much later from the dwemer disappearence.

I'm still surprised there's no in-game option to ask her how old she is, or at least get to ask her about some history she's experienced first hand.

Yeah, me too. I was hoping Serana or Harkon would say something about it. I'd even be happy if she acknowledged I'm a werewolf.

Agreed. She's probably like a History channel just waiting to be tuned in, but Bethesda didnt give us the buttons to tune in. Who knows how much (besides bethesda) knowledge she has of the past.

Not sure if anyone cares or has already made a thread about this or figured this out, but I have determined an acurate estimate of Serana's age. I went off the fact that Serana didn't know that there was an Empire in Cyrodiil, and according to another user, she doesn't even know that the dwemer are gone hinted through the comment she makes at Markarth. Alessia started the first empire in Cyrodiil in 1E 243.

The first Era had 2920 years

The second Era had 897 years

The third Era had 433 years

The fourth has so far from the beginning of Skyrim 201.

Add all those years up and subtract 243 from the first era, and Serana is at least 4208 years old.
I know most probably dont care, so please no rude messages saying "Whoopdy [censored]in doo" or whatever. I was always curious.
Anyone think they can pinpoint her age more closely, or have a problem with the number I came up with?

Yeah, and just think, some people are selfish enough to have her cure herself. This is a being that has seen the dawn and dusk of multiple millenia. Just imagine what she's seen and experienced, the ancient knowledge contained within her mind. A being as old as your oldest ancestors. If you travel around with her, you get a glimpse at just how old she really is, based on her comments. Even if she was in slumber for a few millenia, she still possesses first hand knowledge of an age past, an age which little is known about. Yet some people feel the need to bring about her mortality (and therefore demise) because of their own selfish wants and emotions.
It's a damn shame Arch Curate Vyrthur had to die as well, considering not only his age, but his race.

I asked her about curing her vamp problem and she told me not after what she went through to get it. So we decided to drop the subject. She kind of hinted at what Molag Bol did and it didn't sound very nice.

Dont talk to her about it til you finish the mission, then after its done, you can cure her. Otherwise she wont. I'd recommend not doing it, honestly. I like having the choice available if I ever wish to, or if they let us marry her (yea, right), but I dont because nothing changes except the eyes, which still glow and look supernatural, but arent the vamp eyes. She still complains about the sun, still uses vampire drain, still can use harkons sword, and still wears the hood. Not worth me losing those wonderful eyes.

I wanted to originally because I roleplayed that we were "together", and my character wanted kids, and she didnt want to see me die, etc. But after I saw what it did to her...yea, I said screw it. So I just marry Aela or Ysolda, and have her as a mistress. Thanks by the way.

You need to be on the Dawnguard side. And you cannot ask her about a cure until AFTER the main quest is over. If you ask her about a cure during the main quest she will say it is a gift, not a curse, and she will never agree to cure herself. After the MQ, if you never asked her about a cure, then you can now ask and she will disappear for a few days and come back cured.
