Serana's Age

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 10:14 pm

Not sure if anyone cares or has already made a thread about this or figured this out, but I have determined an acurate estimate of Serana's age. I went off the fact that Serana didn't know that there was an Empire in Cyrodiil, and according to another user, she doesn't even know that the dwemer are gone hinted through the comment she makes at Markarth. Alessia started the first empire in Cyrodiil in 1E 243.

The first Era had 2920 years

The second Era had 897 years

The third Era had 433 years

The fourth has so far from the beginning of Skyrim 201.

Add all those years up and subtract 243 from the first era, and Serana is at least 4208 years old.
I know most probably dont care, so please no rude messages saying "Whoopdy [censored]in doo" or whatever. I was always curious.
Anyone think they can pinpoint her age more closely, or have a problem with the number I came up with?

I am not sure the Allesian empire counts. I don't think it included Skyrim.

OTOH, the Nords created an empire in the first era under King Harald, so her beffudlement over the existence of an empire is strange.

She has to be first era, though, since the second era began with the founding of an empire by Reman Cyrodil that did include Skyrim.

She states that she didn't know that Cyrodiil had an Empire, so that wouldn't include Skyrim. That means that she had to be born sometime before Alessia made the first Empire in Cyrodiil.

No it means she had to have been last active during a time Cyrodill didn't have an empire. She could have been born between empires. She isn't surprised the Dwemer are gone or that Dunmer have ashen skin and red eyes so she must have been awake after those events occured. Alessia rebelled against Cyrodill in 242;1E several centuries before the battle of red mountain.

When she was born is up for grabs, she could have been born before the first era and only went to sleep after the fall of the first empire. As she isn't shocked to see the Chimer have become the Dunmer or the Dwemer are extinct. She must have been awake after those events happened. If you woke up after a thousand year slumber and found out the Roman Empire ruled the world again you'd be pretty surprised to.

So I would say she was last active after the fall of the first empire.

That or the developers just didnt feel like adding in a bunch of dialogue referring to everything that's changed.

The first Emprie ended in 1E 2321 with Cyrodill plunged into Civil War.
382 Years give or take a few months with no Empire
The second empire begain in 1E 2703 and ended in 2E 430
Tiber Septim wouldn't be born until 2E 828

She doesn't even know the dwemer are gone. I went to Avanchenzel with her and her comment was "why did the dwarves let their city get so run down."

Ah well there's the comment we were looking for, so she must have been sealed up before the founding of the first empire.

Even so, she acts as if she's never even heard of an empire in cyrodiil period, she would've said something like "the civil war is over in cyrodiil now?" Something like that.

When exactly did the dwemer disappear?

Edit: Nevermind, they disappeared in 1 E700. That confirms it then.

Did it extend to Cyrodiil? If not, then its irrelevant. Besides, its based in Skyrim, not Cyrodiil. Serana didnt know that Cyrodiil was the seat of an empire, not just part of one, thats why I brought up St. Alessias empire. Its the first one in Cyrodiil.

Do you mean when she says "I thought Ysgrammor's city would be bigger?"

Yes...although I also thought she made some comment about the nords, but I could be confused. She certainly isn't the height of a normal nord woman, which I really noticed after I modded her.

Some people think she might actually be a nede, but I dont know. You sure her height is off? She looked the same height as me, but I might be mistaken.

Definitely. I put her in turbosnowy's fetish gear, and had to load up his body mod to do that, and 'snowy tells me that it changes all female height to 'nord woman'. After that I noticed that she is about 4" taller than my imperial character, rather than me being taller. I'll head back to valerica and compare them, as they were both the same height pre-mod.

(great mod for her, too, by the way...except it gives her a big butt in standard clothes).

Her exact line when you tell her the empire supports Elisif is "Empire, what Empire?"
Your response is: "THE empire . . . based in Cyrodil."
Her response is: "Cyrodil is the seat of an Empire?"

From her first line she doesn't even know of ANY empire, much less one based in Cyrodil. Therefore, she apparently is unfamiliar with Harald's Empire. This would put her after Ysgramor and before Harald.

King Herald had a kingdom, not an Empire. Thats why he doesnt count.

The following quote is from Pocket Guide to the Empire, 1st Edition/Skyrim

King http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Vrage the Gifted began the expansion that led to the First Empire of the Nords. Within a span of fifty years, Skyrim ruled all of northern Tamriel, including most of present-day http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:High_Rock, a deep stretch of the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Nibenay_River Valley, and the whole of http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Morrowind.

According to your first link, Vrage conquered Morrowind and High Rock in 1 E240, and this started an expansion that would lead to the first Nordic Empire in the following years. Meaning people didnt really call it an Empire yet. Its possible they didnt refer to it as an Empire at all til after it fell, but everyone refered to Alessia as an Empress, and her land an Empire during its exisence. Technically speaking, the Nords had an Empire, but they still had a King and refered to their domain as a Kingdom. So would everyone else including Serana. Regardless though, the difference between which empire we go by is only a difference of 3 years so it really doesnt matter either way.

Wow! That is all very very interesting. I gotta say I thought her age a curiosity, but never gave it much thought. Reading this thread however sheds a whole new light on her character for me.

Thanks for pitching in! I'm anxious to hear more :D
