shocked and disappointed by the lack of vision.

i'd just like to say that ever since playing TES and my first mmo (WoW) i've dreamed about a TES mmo. it's been years and years that i've been saying just how incredibly cool it would be if i could play TES with friends or just other people in it.

the thing is, i absolutely never imagined, or ever wanted, a "WoW game" with TES skins and lores. just the thought make me want to gag. TES has a very distinct feel to it, a very immersive feel derived by the first person view/combat, outstanding graphics, rich lore, voiced quests, huge mostly seamless open ended map, and the freedom to play as you wish and shape your character as you go.

lets get this straight. i've always wanted a game that feels exactly like TES, just with other players in it. it doesn't have to be thousands of people even a few hundred would do.

after hearing how this game has been WoWonized into just one more generic, bland, repetitive, dull theme park mmo that resembles nothing of my beloved TES, and has more in common with Swtor or Rift, i've become incredibly disappointed and sad .

this game could have rewritten the mmo formula. it could have been the beginning of a great age of fps, seamless world, fantastic mmos. instead it's just one more loved title slapped onto one other run of the mill theme park mmo just so some studio can rake in a quick buck, quickly followed by a f2p conversion and then be left on life support cycle.

i am completely shocked that any developer would ever think this type of a game would ever be popular or even well received. shame on you Zenimax for having so little vision. mark my words, this game will be an ever bigger flop then Tortanic was.

Your in luck, this game has very little in common with anything that has been exclusive to wow and is much more akin to the games before wow that started it all.

Sorry you feel that way. I love what Zeni is doing and I truly believe TESO will be amazing.

I totally know what you mean... But I guess we can still hope that they'll change something when faced with all the negative reception so far

this game could have rewritten the mmo formula.

Judging from the interviews, the devs involved have exercised a great deal of creativity, passion, and vision. I think you should wait to play the game before you make any judgements, because it seems that you might be having a hard time interpreting the released info.

The game will fail because it is going to same old generic mmo route. The fact is that millions have been playing this kind of game since Everquest and they are all tired of the Wow clones. The last thing I ever imagined in my years playing Elder Scrolls games was that this game turn into that same old boring mmo generic feature type mmo. You would think a sanbox type game design would fit TESO or even a hybrid between sandbox or theme park would be acceptable for this ip. Though yet again it never fails, for when we think there is a glimmer of hope for the mmo genre, the devs come through to disappoint us yet again. From the game design to the art direction they chose for the game, it really shows how still the majority of devs are just way out of touch with what players want in a franchise. Turning a sandbox type game into a Wow generic mmo is a recipe for disaster. Go ask Bioware how well the hero engine and their Wow generic mmo turned out. By the end of the year that mmo will be almost dead. I'm afraid TESO will suffer the same fate due to their lack of vision.

I agree that it is a little bit disappointing, and that yes it could have rewritten the formula, but is taking the more standard MMO route.
Hopefully there will be other elements that will still make it a good game, it seems like being to bold in the making of an MMO can turn disasterous as many MMO players will have to learn the game all over again. However not being bold enough is probably an even greater risk, and this game is not bold enough. It is different from wow, but not enough, people who are looking for something new and bold will probably flock to GW2, but we'll see, we still know next to nothing really.

I have followed GW2 since it was announced, even played it two years running at GamesCom,i'm an avid fan.Saying that, please tell me what GW2 is doing that is new and bold,i would really like to read your take on this.

Don't say DEs,they are basically public quest which have been done before.

Don't say WvWvW,DAOC have already done this.

Don't say action combat because games like The Chronicles Of SpellBorn and Tera and RaiderZ have this.

Don't say personal stories,i guess i don't have to tell you who has done this.

Now,saying all that, please tell me what's new and bold about GW2.

If we are talking about improving certain features then that's another stories.

I'm all ears.

I said bold as compared to the standard formula.
And give me one other games that does all those things.
Exactly, all the other games have been way to careful and only done a few of them.
They are also breaking apart from the trinity we all hate.

This is why diehard fans are upset, because the leaked info describes a WoW generic mmo. Read this and you too will start crying in your beverage. Not to mention I got the Game Informer article, it is disappointing and tough to read without being disappointed.

Agreed, on paper it looks rather bland. Except for the RvR which looks promising.

The thing is, the elder scrolls is known to innovate, and the apparent lack of it are indeed the reason for much disappointment.

Funny.

There isn't a single piece of the very limited information that we've gotten in that link that makes me think "WoW Clone".

A lot of the things listed in that link worry me... But it seems to be missing a credible source?

Most of it appears to be from the GI article. Some of the "facts" seem to be assumed/inferred, though.

When GW2 comes out it will be pretty new, and well bold compared to say WoW. You really seem to expect every sentence to have some mind blowing aspects, don't you?

I don't think you meant new as in a new game but more like new in what they are doing but i guess you wormed your way out of that one.

ESO has pretty much all of the "bold" ideas of GW2.... (replace active-dodging with active-blocking/sprinting/cc-break)

The big downsides of this project are the 3rd person hotkey combat and set classes. Everything else is just pure backlash/anger.

To quote the always-appropriate Mr. Wilde:

"A work of art is the unique result of a unique temperament. Its beauty comes from the fact that the author is what he is. It has nothing to to do with the fact that other people want what they want. Indeed, the moment that an artist takes notice of what other people want, and tries to supply the demand, he ceases to be an artist, and becomes a dull or an amusing craftsman, an honest or a dishonest tradesman."
