Should I trade skyrim for ME3

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 5:06 pm

I can't imagine going to play ME3, the end of a trilogy, where some choices in the previous games should have an impact on the story, without having played the previous games first.

E.G. Wrex is a character who has a role in all 3 Mass Effect games, but in my Mass Effect 1 game
Spoiler
I killed him
which leads to him not making an appearance in either ME2 or ME3.

Most of the choices/consequences stuff appears to be fairly basic, but starting out with Mass Effect 3 also means you miss a lot of character development from recurring companions and a large chunk of the story.

So I'd definitely get the first game to see if you like it.

[snip]

As for Mass Effect's free roaming-ness.... Yeah. It doesn't really have much of it. You have a couple of quest hub city'ish areas, with people to talk to and quests to pick up, but other than that it's mostly linear rooms you go through with enemies always appearing at the same place.

You do get to choose in which order you want to go through these sequences though, you don't have to go from one planet to another in a specific order. That's about as nonlinear as its level design gets, which isn't a whole lot.

But that's Bioware's style and I think if they would move away from these tight story driven experiences to a more open world exploration game (which they're now hinting at slightly with Dragon Age 3) it wouldn't really work out. They've never done that before, it's not what they're good at.

I've never played ME and don't have the $ to keep skyrim, plus I think it's a bit boring and ME looks a bit more action filed. That's my place

Origin.
Difficulty slider. That means if you want to play Mass Effect 3 you with full story you can't have full difficulty.
As an alternate ending you to can become a reaper, but in the first 2 you are trying to destroy them.

Ignore the minority and play them for yourself. The majority are silent because we are playing and enjoying Mass Effect 2. I'm just about to play Mass Effect 1 despite the many problems I have heard about it.

You can get them for pretty cheap on Steam and there should be some cheap used copies around.

Sound logic. I dont see friends discussing ME2, lets check... Hmm nope, they arent playing it, enjoyment varies.

Use spoiler tags, I already saw the abomination of a script. But there re still those who havent, and have fith in BW.

I have a feeling you like deus ex, system shock 2, and Fallout New Vegas... probally because you keep repeating it...

On topic, I think that you should get the first one. It is $5 or $10 I think wherever you can buy it so it isn't much.

I'm talking about Mass Effect 1 and 2. The third isn't out yet so I have no opinion on it, I refuse to judge something before I have played it. He doesn't like Skyrim, he's interested in getting into the Mass effect series. I was suggesting that he play the first two instead of jumping into the last part of the story.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_effect_2#Reception is a link to the Wikipedia page. Yes I know it's Wikipedia which should never normally be put forward as evidence, but there are citations on all of the reviews.

Yes reviews are so totally honest, like DA2 being game of the decade.

I wouldn't swap out Skyrim for ME3. You'll probably get a lot more play out of Skyrim, even if you've already finished it several times while you wait for ME3 to come out.

If anyone ever had doubts about the validity of game critics' reviews, DA2 ruined any last shreds of respectability.

I wouldn't start the series with the third game, because the story continues through all three games. However, it is not a bad idea to trade in Skyrim, since Bethesda always releases a GotY edition with all the DLC included should you decide to buy it again in the future.

Reviews are opinions given by individuals about how much they enjoyed the game, honesty doesn't enter into it. I was simply showing that the majority of people who have played Mass Effect 2 have enjoyed it and the ones who are insulting it on this thread are the minority.

Dragon Age 2 is definitely not game of the decade, but it wasn't actually a terrible game in my opinion. My theory on why a lot of people are so vocal about how much they didn't like it is because it didn't in any way live up to Dragon Age: Origins.

Nobody knows and if they claim to then they are lying.

I hope you enjoy your time with the Mass Effect series.

How? This decade has only been 2 years long so far. Unless they expanded a decade past 10 years, so 2009 wouldn't have been the end of the decade.
