Skyrim...any positive people want to speak up?

Post » Fri Sep 21, 2012 5:09 pm

So, on any given day, you can ramble over to the ES Skyrim forum and count no less than ten separate threads that are complaining about one thing or another in regards to Skyrim.

Much like you could in the Oblivion days.

Much like you could in the Morrowind days.

I wasn't around for Daggerfall and beyond, so I can't speak to that. I realize everyone's entitled to their own opinions, and I realize that without critisizm, the game developers have little feedback with which to improve things...but, really? Do we need to bash this game day in and day out, [censored]ing, moaning, whining and complaining about every little thing that just isn't quite right?

People...at the end of the day, it's a game. Personally, I think it's a fantastic game and rivals Morrowind (which I had much more trouble getting into) and certainly keeps me occupied. Granted, I don't have 1000 hours into it. But, here's the thing...if you've got hours and hours and hours invested in a game...how bad can it be? Obviously it's held your interest.

So, what I'd like to see in this thread is the POSITIVE things about Skyrim that you love. The general rule here will simply be the age old "If you ain't got nuthin' nice to say, then shut yo' damn mouth".

I'm very positive about Skyrim - at least when it works (I played it on PS3).
The class building system gets too much flack imo. It's so nice that you can just create a class by playing the way your class would play.

I agree Skwid. I mean sure it has its flaws, but the again - what game doesn't?

I like Nords. They're my favorite race in the universe of TES. So I think one reason I like Skyrim... is because I like Nords. See what I mean there?

But I also love Viking history, and the Nords of Skyrim slightly portray that 'Vikingness'. Plus I like the game's perk and skills tree as compared to the past games... feels better to me. I would love to have spears of course, but that'll be fine. Skyrim is what pulled me into the games, as I use to hate Oblivion and Morrowind.

I've been playing Oblivion just a bit and I like the setting of it, the story of it, and several other things about it.

Im mainly positive but its rather annoying seeing people complaining about a ingame feature like the ability to have god mode through a glitch >.> I sound like a hypocrite for complaining about people complaining... oh well i enjoy these games enough to make up for it. Morrowind was my selling point into this series ah the good old days.

The Elder Scrolls games have been my virtual second home for over ten years. No other game series comes close to allowing me the freedom to make the characters I want to make and allowing those characters to live their lives the way they want to live them. There is nothing like the Elder Scrolls games anywhere. Thank you, Bethesda.

Agree 100%, consumers are too busy trying to get games tailored to their individual wants...where as bethesda creates a world and opens it up for you to play how you want to play within it! If you lack an imagination or desire to expand your horizons, then its going to be hard to get into a game like Skyrim/Oblivion/Morrowind, etc. I am very thankful that they do listen to their consumers however when it comes to content...crossbows, more quests, more areas to explore, killcams, you name it and they have tried to supply what works with the system for our benefit, not theirs.

I love Skyrim and Morrowind to pieces. I haven't played Oblivion yet but I'm sure I'll like that too.

The appeal is that I can create my own characters and stories within the massive world given to us. Sure, there are other great (sometimes near perfect) games out there but at the end of the day I don't give a flying [censored] about the stories of Chell, Denton, Shepard, or Batman. I'd much rather create my own adventures and live out another life as I see fit. And the only series that lets me do that is The Elder Scrolls.

I'm going to sound like a massive [censored] saying this but, to me, TES isn't just a game series it's an experience.

Thanks for such a great series Bethesda

People tend to find fault with things they like. They want it to be perfect ... for them. I myself have 650+ hours into the game, and boy can I find fault with it. BUT, obviously I love the game.

I think it would be more of a problem if no one was complaining about the game, cause that would mean that hardly anyone is playing it.

The gameplay as overall is nice sure it's lacking things that I put above those but I like the gameplay dueal wielding, my only complaint about dual wielding is that you're no longer can block using 2 one handed sword.

Alchemy has also improve that you can only mix potions at certain places, I like this.

The random encounters on the road.

Eh, I don't bother. Most people, like me, play the game for what it is, and enjoy it for what it is. Constructive criticism is one thing, but childishly insulting is another. Insulting or praising, none of it really matters. Skyrim will always be Skyrim.

-Kids.

-Livestock.

-Smithing.

-Mounted combat.

-The Lusty Argonian Maid v2.

-They brought back vehicle fast travel to the holds.

-Vampires can go out in the sun and not die from it.

-The Dark Elfs are not that blue color they were in Oblivion.

-The faces look nice. They also brought back the detail that Morrowind has like face paint.

-Just like in Morrowind you can kill a Guard without getting a bounty.

-The armors look more unique from each other. In Oblivion:
*Glass.
*Elven.
*Orchish.
All looks the same to each other. The only diffeerence is the detail.

I love the way snow glides over the landscape and you can see mountainous peaks almost scraching the snow passing it by.
I love how I know I'm close to wolves when I can hear them nearby.
I love shooting down birds, rabbits and butterflies with my bow, it gives me dat feel like I'm da bawos.
I love stealing from people, cleaning their house out, I just wish they'd react to it but I just leave it to my imagination. I like to imagine I'm some master thief that just steals from farmers to troll their face off.
I love discovering new places in Skyrim, but I've already discovered everything there is, so I'm just waiting for Dawnguard, can't wait to go into the soul cairn, I'm almost jumping off the walls.

Daggerfall was by far the best of the games if you ask me..
But after that, in my opinion (am gonna be crucified for this) they released three (yes i am counting Redguard game) mediocre games that didnt fit my taste at all. Then come Skyrim, the game who made me leave WoW :)
Its lacking things yes, but so does 100% of all the games out there.. There are NO PERFECT GAMES that has been released from 1984 and up to date.

Bethy has done a GREAT job in skyrim with the Enviroment, i just love the enviroment in Skyrim. Rest can be solved with mods.. (Well most of the things).
Thumbs up from me..

Yes, we complain about it because we love it and want it to become better

(...)

Personally it doesn't rival Morrowind for me, I'm not sure if any gave will ever match that atmosphere, but I am biased, yes.

I think this game is a huge improvement over Oblivion. I'm not quite satisfied with the story, but I was never so much into those things in TES games, exploration is the game. And I think Skyrim completely hit the spot with the atmosphere here, I couldn't imagine Skyrim any better than what they did, art style-wise. Weapons, armor, all set up to match the Nordic style is great.

I was also kinda sceptic towards the perk thing, but now that I know how it works I love it. Imo it's much better than predefining and thus bordering the player to a big degree from the start of the game, while at the same time making a better end game experience where you can't have every single perk chosen even if you grind to the max level.

I also really like how NPCs look, diry and ugly and all that, and I think being able to choose my constitution is pretty awesome. Facial hair, paints, dirt and scars are just the cherry on top.

There's probably more but I can't recall. :P

Everyone has right to state their opinion, but I agree, Skyrim is good but not perfect.

There are many things that I like in Skyrim and there are also those that I don't like, Skyrim may not be my favorite kind of game, but nonetheless I enjoy it.

So bottom line, Skyrim is a good game.

Skyrim does not rival Morrowind. There are many and more great things about Skyrim and one of my favorites are the atmospherc effects. The weather, the moons, the auroras make for breathtaking sights and immerse you in the world.

If we didnt complain, then what do think Skyrim would be like? Imagin if we didnt complain about Oblivions computer generated world when it came out. Then Skyrim wouldn't have been handcrafted. Or if we didnt complain about being able to craft items in a smithy, then we wouldn't have a crafting skill.

So in one point of view, complaining can be a good thing.

Every game has it flaws, but I'm not one to nit pick about things and complain about them day in and day out. Could the guild quest have been longer, more then likely yes but I still enjoy the hell out of this game.

I love Skyrim, that's why I've spent about 60 hours just in the last 5-6 days playing it after a short break. What I don't love is the fact that with each game TES becomes more and more consolized. Everytime they release a new game a little bit of something or other disappears. In Oblivion it was many varieties of armour and weapons, a big giant marker that points you right to your objective everytime so you don't actually have to use the map or do any work in finding anything, and leveled enemies. In Skyrim weapon and armour degradation is gone, classes are gone. What next? Will they be getting rid of the open world as it is too bewildering for 8 year old console players?

So true. Dissatisfaction is the mother of improvement.

The whole thing is EPIC here I am 8 months down the line from getting this game and I'm still playing it, still finding new places to explore and finding new weapons. I don't think I've ever had that experience on any other game, especially the freedom. Yeh things in the towns may get a bit repetitive but you kind of expect that as the dialog can be limited otherwise voice actors would be recording for months. I am going to make sure there is no stone unturned before I finish!
