[RELWIP] Skyrim -Elys- Uncapper

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 6:48 pm

Hey Elys :smile: Let me just say that I never played Oblivion without your uncapper and the same is to be said about Skyrim . I really appreciate it being available this early in the games life :smile: I was just wishing that there was a configurable perks system and was going to ask an author of another mod if it could be done when I updated the uncapper only to find it was already including plus the ability to set skill advancement rates . Amazing , thats all I got to say , well that and thank you :biggrin:

The New SKSE is out :) I get a warning messge from the uncapper but it still goes through. Does Uncapper need an update or is the message there just incase ... ?

The uncapper does not load when you get that error. We just have to wait until Elys updates it.

Does the uncapper actually lose functionality though when the SKSE version is updated? I wonder if this version check could just be removed and it would work. I don't think SKSE would have changed enough that the uncapper's code would have to be changed.

But I'm not the creator, so I don't know.

Hoping this is updated when I get home from work tonight. :)

I don't believe SKSE has added any direct functionality for Elys to use. We're currently just providing a way for the plugin to load, not functions to call. GIven that the Uncapper is directly modifying the game memory it will need to be updated every time the game is patched, just like SKSE. I am certain that won't be the case after the CK is released. But until then we'll have to be patient for the plugin to be updated.

I'd like to start by saying thanks to you Elys for an awesome mod.

I'm wondering though, because I'm trying to slow down my skills gains in a balanced way, what values should I use for the skill gain mult? For example, I know to halve skill gains I'd have to set them all to 0.5, but some, like Smithing, I'd want even slower since they level way too fast. So I might want to set Smithing to 0.35. So yeah, what values do you guy's recommend for a balanced skill gain?

This mod allowed me to rebalance my skill gain rates so easily that I couldn't envision playing the game without it at this stage. Great work! :)

So yeah, what values do you guy's recommend for a balanced skill gain?

Playing as a mage, I like to have my mage skills at near vanilla rate gain. So mage skills are like my Major skills, whereas the rest are Minor skills.

So something like:

Lockpicking = 0.2 (use this all the time, too bad there are no Open spells)
Alchemy = 0.7
Sneak = 0.6
Pickpocket = 0.4
Speech = 0.3 (buying and selling all the time will increase this skill greatly)
Light armor = 0.4

Smithing = 0.3 (I like making jewelry, and it level up fast)
One-handed = 0.4
Two-handed = 0.4
Heavy armor = 0.4
Archery = 0.4
Block = 0.4

Alteration = 0.7
Conjuration = 0.7
Illusion = 0.7
Destruction = 1.0
Enchanting = 0.5
Restoration = 0.8

It depends on what character you're trying to build. I usually decrease the rate of skills I don't really want, but they level fast anyways like (Speech, Lockpicking, Enchanting, Smithing).

@jordan: you crazy! Speech levels the slowest of all skills ever. Unless the player goes out of their way to sell every single item one at a time. And I doubt that makes up for how dang slow it is.

I do like the idea of assigning "major" skills by giving them higher increase rates though.

Enchanting/speech/lockpicking level really fast for me. I mainly sells enchanted jewelry though, so that might play a part into it.

@jordan0422

That's funny because I actually would have done the opposite. That is, I would set my "major" skills to level slower than my other skills (not by much but a little bit), that way I won't end up with a character who's really powerful at one thing and a total wimp at the others. I appreciate you sharing your skill gain mult values though. I haven't beaten the game yet, but I already don't like the fact that I leveled from 1-30 by exploring less than a dozen dungeons. I want my leveling to be almost painfully slow, forcing me to resort to non-quest-related dungeon crawling and exploration in order to progress. I definitely agree with you about making Smithing and Enchanting much much slower than the rest.

I have another mod that greatly increase the amount of exps needed per level (especially the beginning levels). So that help with the skills to level scaling. Recommend trying out XSO.

I've looked at XSO but it has so many changes which overwhelmed me. The only thing I really want from that mod is the change in the Base and Mult Exp needed to level. When the CK comes out, I'll be able to make a small .esp to just change those numbers anyway.

Also, hopefully there will be a way to change the Exp needed to gain a skill level without affecting the Mult values, that way things like skill books will still reward a full level despite slowing skill gains by 2x or more.

I didn't mean to imply that she wouldn't be back, just that I doubt she'll bother with an update to the beta.
