Minecraft is way more resource intensive than Morrowind, due to all being in Java.

There will never be a resolution over which game is better than the other because people like different things. At some point, you'll probably give Oblivion a turn and then decide for yourself. I found it wasn't easy to go back to older tech when I tried to play Morrowind but that doesn't mean it doesn't have a great story. One good thing is that the older games have low prices. That makes it easy to give them a go.

I'm an Oblivion lover who's loving Skyrim too by the way.

Just looked at some pictures on steam. Morrowind looks like it would just about run on my computer, and the graphics seem playable (I preffer games with cartooney graphics like Borderlands or umm... pacman?) I might get it but idk. Oblivion looks good because the villages seem like the have a variety of races. Skyrim is just Nords and Imperials with a few elves and a few Argonian and khajiit dotted around here and there. I preffer Races like Kahjitt and Argonians because it makes me feel like I'm in a different world and I think Oblivion had argonian villages?

I am pretty sure it is all debatable

if you do try Oblivion you need to do the dark brotherhood quest line, its one of the best things in the entire game

yeah, and also the mages guild, now THATS a long questline... Oblivion was my favorite so far... Morrowind is different, but good too... but try Oblivion with some awesome mods, or with all the DLCs if you re on console... definitelly worth it... i played this game from release till the publishing of Skyrim which is almost 6 years... thats how much fun i had...

I think if you went back and played the other games you would be disappointed.

Morrowind is highly overrated; I just played the game again a few months before Skyrim came out and, nostalgia aside, I realized it's not that great. The only thing going for it is that the quests are deeper and more complex (also there is spell making - a small plus). The graphics are old, the dialogue system is poorly designed, the environments are dull, the dungeons are copy/paste, the combat is utter garbage, the music is extremely repetitive... the list of negatives just goes on and on. The primary reason people love Morrowind is the same reason they love FFVII: it was the first of its kind (in this case a huge, modern, non-linear fantasy world to explore).

Oblivion suffers similar problems (especially copy/paste dungeons, which really ruins the game IMO).

If you can get the games for cheap, you might as well try them, but don't expect to be blown away.

Morrowind is all about the Dark Elves and their nutty culture. That is why you have to read a lot of books in the game. Just see how cheap you can get it, it might be quite cheap. Then try adding the free mods for better faces, better bodies, stuff like that and see how you go.

I think once you get past the combat differences you would like Oblivon. Plus if you've read any of the books in the game you might get a kick out of being there. I went back to fallout 2 after nv out of curiosity and it took a couple of goes to get used to but it was great.

There's exploration in Oblivion, not as much as skyrim but still enough. Also creature/daedra varieties you don't see in skyrim. It's entirely up to you if you think you can adjust to the different menu/magic system. It was a good game I played it on and off for nearly a year.

I don't know if I will ever go back to Oblivion, but I put in Morrowind last night and I still love it, and it still looks good to me even though it's dated. Of course I was only playing it because I was away from home and couldn't play Skyrim. I would say if you don't play MW then you are definitely missing out.

Skyrim has been my favorite TES game. That being said, Morrowind was incredible. I poured at least 400 hours into that game and have went back and replayed it multiple times. If you're looking for an immersive and story driven game with TONS of stuff to do then Morrowind is it for you. The map is massive and Bethesda placed tons of unique weapons, armor, and items in the game that only be found from exploring. With the crazy amount of mods that exist for Morrowind, it is a unique game that you can build to fit your style. Oh and you should equip keening as soon as you find it (dont save for a while though for added effect). I think I may load the game up now actually....

Is it worth buying oblivion? Alot of people are saying it is better than Skyrim, but I love Skyrim and havn't even started to get bored of it yet.
It depends on what you like in Skyrim. If you enjoy the action, the less than eloqouent NPCs and being driven by the compass, then you should like Oblivion. However if what you are looking for is a similar atmosphere, the dark fantasy theme and the feeling of being somewhere remote, you will enjoy 2 or 3 quests in it at best. In the second case you should get familiar with Morrowind.

Morrowind may or may not hold your attention, it's dependent on your playing preferences. It is very mathy. However the questing in Morrowind has no hand-holding and has a very rewarding feeling to it when you finally figure out where to go or what to do based on the information you've obtained from talking to NPCs or reading quest related notes/books, and it's done so well that it will make you hate the quest markers we now have for close to everything.

Skyrim improved on Oblivion in almost every aspect, however the Shivering Isles expansion is phenomenal and definitely a must play.

Of Skyrim, Oblivion and Morrowind it is entirely a matter of opinion as to which is "better".

But if you are not bored with Skyrim no need to try Oblivion or Morrowind yet.

But when you do start to get bored of Skyrim, I do recommend Oblivion. A very similar game, very similar gameplay. Graphics are still very good, aside from maybe the NPCs which look a little more cartoonish in Oblivion than Skyrim, but the landscapes are still beautiful, and if you can run mods on a PC they are still spectacular. There are a huge number of quests. Though I really have not completed any guilds in Skyrim, from what I hear the guild questlines are much more involved.

If you eventually try oblivion I recommend some mods to counter some deficiencies. Such as OOO for reducing level scaling (to basically a Skyrim type scaling) and many other improvements, and nGCD to overcome a very odd leveling system. Also recommend MMM for many more monsters and some retexture mods to make already good graphics even more spectacular.

Morrowind also has some advantages. But if graphics means anything to you, you may need to heavily mod it. The default graphics are very dated. Also limited voice acting (most dialog is text and without voice acting). But it is also a huge world, and very complex.

At the moment I prefer Oblivion over Skyrim or Morrowind. But again that is a matter of personal opinion. And that might change as I play more Skyrim.

Also worth considering is Fallout 3 and Fallout: NV. Fallout 3 was made by Bethesda and has a very different setting but is also very similar to Skyrim in some ways (big open world). Fallout New Vegas was not made by Bethesda but does have some similarities. And some people prefer New Vegas to Fallout 3 (not me).

In summary, I do recommend you consider trying Oblivion at some point.

So Morrowind was the best Elder Scrolls game...?
Oh god no, I hated it.
Listen, before everyone here sways you over there is something really important you should know about:
It uses Real-time dice-roll combat.

You know what this means?
It means you play in regular real time but every swing or shot or magic you use has a % of being a success.
You know what that means?
It means that magic, archery and sneak is completely unreliable until you get the skills high.

Let me put some context to it:
In order for skills to raise you need to use them.
In order to use them you need to succeed at actually using the skill.
In order to succeed at actually using the skill you need a high skill.
See the paradox? (???)
I had a low Archery skill, I think I picked it as a "minor" skill.
And I went out with 300 arrows and killed some animals right.
And the animals I hunted could take 2 arrows before they died.
Due to the diceroll combat in real time I shot 50 arrows at enemies, 50! Before they died.

Now, again, in order for the skill to raise I need to actually "hit" the enemy, in order to "hit" the enemy I need a successful diceroll, in order to get a successful diceroll I need a higher skill.

Yeah yeah "you could use trainers" but I shouldn't have to wikia everything for the game to be playable.
"Well once it goes up and you hit more then it's going to raise faster". So what? I'm suppose to grind away 40.000 arrows to get the skill to a decent level where I can actually hit stuff? No, that's not an excuse.

Just saying yknow.
I played it for like 10 hours and I couldn't accept the absolutely horrible diceroll system that was used.
So before everyone sways you over with how "great" it was, look this crap up.
I'm sure there is a mod for it somewhere but honestly I didn't even bother to look because of other flaws Morrowind had. (So no the dicerolls were not the only reason I quit playing it)

And if anyone says "It gets better once you get your skills up": I shouldn't have to play through 30+ dreadful hours of loathesome gameplay for it to become fun.

[edit]

I'm not saying Morrowind is by default a crap game. It's just my personal opinion of it, and I think the guy needs to hear some negative criticism as well.

[edit2]

Oh and special mention to the dialogue, it's crap, maybe not the writing, but the actual dialogue mechanic.
Think Oblivion's topic dialogue, then add every single topic you hear from any NPC to the lists.
That's what Morrowind's dialogue was like.
So many topics to ask about with the same answers all the time that I stopped caring about asking about anything unless I could see that it was a new topic.

I'd recommend getting Morrowind and modding the heck out of it, get Morrowind Graphic Enchancement, living cities, and a few other mods. It's worth playing.

Personally I thought Oblivion was pretty shaky in many areas, there's still a ton to do and it's an enjoyable game, but I see it as a definite step down from Skyrim. Morrowind is a step down too in terms of gameplay IMO, however the story setting and art are so brilliant it almost makes up for it.

PS the post above is right the combat in Morrowind is truly atrocious, if you can get past that and play it modded though it really does have a great atmosphere. Also the expansions for Morrowind are both really excellent, and Bloodmoon is Nords, so it might be kind of a fun companion piece to Skyrim.

I think some people are very harsh with Oblivion...
It drives me crazy that some from here speak for Oblivion as it was one of the worst games ever.. It actually was game of the year 2006,the LARGEST TES ever with the biggest number of dungeons,npcs,cities,world....
It also had the best facial animations of all of the games of the series, and back when it came its graphics had the same "wow" factor Crysis had too when it came out.
Oblivion is one of the best games ever either you like it or not, wherever I have seen "best game ever" top lists Oblivion is always at the first 10 games.
So give it a break, and tell to this guy who asks that Oblivion is a great game as it is.

Morrowind and later are all worth playing even now. Daggerfall was great in its day, but really not playable at this point in the history of gaming. So, svcks that you missed out on it, but don't go back.
Lies. I would argues that Daggerfall is consider the one of the best along the TES line today. Don't let the graphic fool ya, this game is difficult and can make you its female dog but give a patience player a giant world and has one of the best dungeon run one can endure. http://theelderscrolls.wiwiland.net/?title=Daggerfall_:_DaggerfallSetup_EN.

Morrowind would follow it with the large amount of lore it gives the player and it has a great landscape.

Only play Oblivion when its modded in PC. Vanilla is poor to svck as hell in nearly all department.

Learn to interpret these "X was better than Y" statements. Most people prefer rocky road, but chocolate is just as delicious. It's all about taste. There hasn't been a bad TES game ever, mobile versions aside.

Graphically, Skyrim is the most superior TES installment.
Story-wise, it's debatable, but most of us feel like Morrowind was the best, but Morrowind had many flaws (particularly how easy it was to exploit game mechanics).
I would do like others before me have said, play Skyrim to death, take the time to read the books and enjoy the world, then go buy the Morrowind and Oblivion GOTY editions.

People will tell you Morrowind was better, but they are speaking more through nostalgia and rose-tinted glasses. By the way, the combat system was trash in Morrowind.

I would say the number one reason to play Morrowind is if you like TES lore. Also the Tribunal expansion.

For combat etc, I think a stealth archer is a good character to play. Like the other games, don't abuse enchanting.
