Is Skyrim like Ireland?

Post » Wed Oct 31, 2012 3:39 pm

we know it best resembles scadinavia but has some similarities to Ireland, don't think I am just saying this to support my homeland, because it does have similarities, look at what we pointed out

tbh you can point out similarities to almost any country in the northern hemisphere.

Central heat? No place that has central heat could be that cold..

It's not cold, only a bit depressing, it feels like living in Finland,

seems like there is some meeting of the irish community - i have to disappoint you, skyrim looks like norway

Skyrim is mostly tundra and snow covered tundra.

High Rock I think is supposed to be more of an emerald province (with the addition of a high mountain range - hence the name "High Rock")

Ireland is one of the biggest consumers of tea per capita on the planet (I need a life).

That would be Northern Ireland, part of UK. In Republic of Ireland, as far as I recall in my 21 years there, this is a blasphemy, and very rarely seen, at least in Dublin.

It's not cold enough in Skyrim for it to be like Scandinavia

Quite the other way around. I'ts colder in Skyrim than at least in the Southern parts of Scandinavia, such as Denmark and half Sweden, half Norway and half Finland. It may look more like Norway and Iceland than Sweden, and not at all like Denmark.

OP: I don't know much about Ireland, but I like your list

Skyrim is not like Scandinavia, more like a fantasy-stereotype of old Scandinavia, made up by someone who has read a short version of our ancestors' tales but haven't actually been here. That said, I like Skyrim a lot. Otherwise I wouldn't play. (It's fantasy, not history  )

Mastashake:  You live in Sweden too?!
But I live in the south; guess that's why we see it differently. Or was it the people running about in the mountains with only a fur bra and miniskirt you had in mind? That wouldn't work in Sweden

Skyrim's landscape is to a large part tundra

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tundra

If they ever make a game set back in High Rock then I expect to see a much greener landscape. In Daggerfall the backdrop looked very woodland and foresty

Yes. Anyone can see the similarities between Sweden/Norway/Iceland and Skyrim but at least I would never think of Ireland.

Last time I was in Ireland I didn't see any mountains that were near the same scale as those we see in Skyrim. Skyrim looks more like Germany than it does Ireland.

Our roots go all the way back from Vikings anyway. Dublin was founded in 9th century by Vikings if I recall right, so this whole Nordic, Viking thingie isn't too far from Ireland.

Yeah well, if I say I was in Italy and never saw sea, it's not because Italy doesn't have it, it's because I wasn't near the coast. I can assure you that RoI and Northern Ireland has quite similar mountains/hills in some areas as you can see in Skyrim. But you can see mountains like that in many countries after all.

Those pics are basically just the typical bog marsh in Ireland, There are alot of things you can see in real life in ireland that aren't online and the bog marshes look a lot like Hjaalmarch.

read what the devs said about when they designed Skyrim. They said tundra.

I think it is common nature that the Nords and Skyrim is cosmetically influenced by the Norse and Scandinavia. Like someone previously said - it is more the stereotypical Norselands of fantasy fiction.

I think it is the Bretons who are more cosmetically influenced by the ancient peoples of western Europe

Nope, definitely the ROI. Believe it or not, they actually consume more tea per capita than the UK.

From what I heard, when Todd Howard did a live interview for someone, before Skyrim came out, he stated that alot of the mountains and tundra that was used in Skyrim came from Park City Utah. The interview is Todd with Geoff.
