That was an IGN article.

Oddly IGN gave Dark Souls a 9 and Skyrim a 9.5...

Gamespot giving Skyrim only a 9.0 is a bit low IMO. The game isn't a perfect 10 due to some technical bugs, but it's not as low as a 9.0. I would give the game a 9.5.

Anyone else agree with the Gamespot review?

Also I don't see how Dark Souls gets a 9.5. That game isn't that great, it's decent but not 9.5 worth.

Honestly if Uncharted gets a 10 Skyrim should get a 10. Gamespot giving it a 9 is low imo.

Oh god, are you one of those gamers with the following logic, per chance?: Anything below a 8 is terrible, 8 is average, 9 is good, 9.5 is great, and 10 is perfect. I honestly believe the end of review score to be completely pointless these days. It holds no basis and/or logic anymore. Try to focus on what is being said instead of the final score. That said, Kevin (the man who reviewed Skyrim) also reviewed Dark Souls, and gave it a 9.5. As much as I like Dark Souls... I think the final score is as flawed as the scoring system Itself.

Gamespot is still relevant? What?

Seriously, either you go main-mainstream (IGN/GI) or more indie (Dtoid, Escapist, etc).

Gamestop has been accused before of editing reviews for money.

I hate the current mindset of everyone. I love how people think a 9, or even a 8 is bad (This is talking in general, not necessary OP) an 8 means the game is GREAT, its amazing, buy it. 9 mean its probably a classic, near masterpiece. Etc, and rarely should a game be higher than that. I always shrug when im like ''Oh oh..this game got a 8.5..guess im not gonna get it''

That said you can't compare older games to the newer scores. I saw some people compare MGS's 10 score to this game, right now if you ask them which game they find better they might actually pick this. That's why I dont always like the point system, and they give 10's way to quick. A 9 is super solid. Also since they might be different reviewers, I dont think each necessary look at other scores and try to put that game higher if they liked it better (Dark souls Vs Skyrim for example, Skyrim reviewer might thought it was better than Dark souls)

Also I think IGN is one of the worser review sites, they clearly have a bias (like a lot of other sites) towards the more popular games and theyve given some games high scores that are just..wut. All do though

I really don't understand this odd notion people have that scores for 'good' games must be 8.5-10. When I started playing games, 7 was a safe bet, 8 was exceptional and 9 was Civ2 Genre Defining Revolution Worthy. I blame the console magazines who started the trend of absurd scores.

I wasn't trying to start a war here. I guess it was my mistake for paying attention to Gamespot's reviews.

People nowadays have such a misconceived notion of the scoring system. A game should NEVER get a 10. No game is perfect, no matter how blinded you maybe and how much you want to believe it. People think 8 is ok, 9 is good, 9.5 is great and 10 is perfect, but the scale really should be that even 7 is good, while a 5 is mediocre. I want to kill myself when I see some review even give games 11...

Agree with the general sentiment in this thread, Skyrim deserves the 10 in today's value system, as nowadays 9-10 are "must have games". Just like oblivion was to the emergence of this generations consoles skyrim will be the game that people will look back when the next gen comes along and ask "You mean.. you have never played skyrim? :o".

However, if we were "back in the day" as it were, skyrim would be an 8. As back then, 5's meant what 7's do today. 7 was a 9 and 8 was a 9.5. No one got 9. that was reserved for essentially what LBP brought to the PS3, Genre defining games, that introduced a new way of playing. Nothing got a 10.. there always need to be that target to aim for.
