When installing, the dashboard will prompt you where you want the install to go. You will most likely get the option to either install to harddrive or to the flashdrive you plugged into your xbox. Select, install et voilla.

Another thing you could try, is play it for a while until the game freezes. Then, take out the disk and feel if it is hot. This is a good way of checking the 'ambient temperature' inside your xbox. Whenever electrical equipment gets hot (whether it be Xbox's, PC's, video recorders or literally anything that carries electricity) the high temperature causes increasing levels of electrical resistance, which causes problems for fragile things like CPU's. Repeated freezing is a symptom of hot CPU's. I had a similar problem with another game a couple of years ago. The game would constantly freeze on me everywhere, and I naturally thought the game was full of bugs. It turned out that my Xbox was overheating which was causing the CPU to freeze after about 30 minutes of play.

If your Xbox isn't getting hot, then it is something else that can be discounted.

I've been playing since release without installing to the hard drive and never had any freezing problems. I just installed it to HD a few days ago and not only are loading times longer but the game has started freezing on me. Have you tried to play with the game uninstalled? Also, you might have a bad disk. Have you tried a different disk? Maybe you should try borrowing or renting one.

My game has been crashing everytime I enter "Skyrim" (the exterior cell). I can walk around in homes or cities, but when I leave, I take two or three steps and it crashes. It started doing this after 1.4 and 1.5 has not fixed the issue. I was so excited to hear about the new patch, but it didn't solve my problem. There's no way I'm going to create a new character; I've invested hundreds of hours on this file. I hope this issue is fixed soon.

I think first you have to format the flash drive from the dashboard, through settings>storage. Then you can save onto it.
The problem with flash drives is that loads take longer, but if your HDD is being screwy this might be they way to go. Still, don't be surprised if you notice longer load screens.

I really was hopeing patch 1.5 was the one that would fix the freezeing issue in this game I was wrong.my game freezes at random times but it froze at skull cave every time i weant in there my game is like new so no scratchs on it so is my xbox like new so its not on my end and just today it froze whean my mage was casting fire.please fix this game or tell me a way to fix this issue.I can not have fun playing this game this with it freezeing.its really makeing me upset.
I have between 50 and 100 hours of game play and was experiencing some freezing and lag in v1.4, however I haven't had any problems with 1.5. The below might help and only takes about 10 - 15 minutes.

What I do for new updates is I delete the install and previous update(Go into Settings-Storage-Games & Apps-Skyrim and select the install and delete-Select Update and delete).

Next I clear system cache(Settings-Storage-Press Y on hard drive to clear system cache).

Next I start up Skyrim and let the update install.

Then I back out and re-install Skyrim(With Game selected on Main Menu press X (Game Details) and select install).

Finally I start the game and hold down LB, RB, X all at the same time to clear the game cache. Some say that this is not needed if game is installed but I do it anyway. Call it a superstition.

Start playing and enjoy.

You can also clear your system cache and game cache as often as you like as it doesn't affect game saves, updates, or the install.

i geuss i well make another char and see what happens.is there any thing else i can try that well stop the freezeing or at least stop it from doing it as much?

possible solutions that i've read others doing, no guarantee any of it will work:
  • clear the game cache (hold down LB+RB+X while the game boots)
  • reduce number of save games
  • uninstall from the hard drive if installed.
  • delete the patch and redownload (1.4 & 1.5 reside in the save game folder on the hard drive)
  • clear the system cache
listed in the order most people seemed to of tried doing them to help. Some helped people, some didn't. its pretty much a 50/50 chance. Hope that helps you.

item drops & nirnroot glow are both causing save game bloating and game lag after awhile. This too can cause freezing issues if the freezing happens entering specific 'Open' areas (not dungeons / tombs).

If your 360 is overheating, then yes this can cause it. When was the last time you blew the dust out of it with canned compressed air? You can buy them for $5 at Target or Walmart or any office supply store.

i played it all day one day

That would induce some freezes yes. Even well ventilation of a console wont help it being on all day, its one of the reasons why I never went after 2 Dead Rising Achievements that required me to have my Xbox on for over a day

No.

My game freezes within 30 seconds of walking around in the main world, even if I turned on the console for the first time 37 seconds before. My girlfriend, using her own newly created character, can explore that same main world for hours without problems. The Skyrim crashes go beyond any physical issue with the console, they are a game bug that happens the more time you invest in your character, but are unrelated to the amount of time your console stays on with the game running.

All of what he said ^^. The only thing I might add is to try turning off Auto-Saves.

Does it freeze for like 5-10 seconds and then it carry's on like normal afterwards? Mine does that even after the latest patch it get's very repetitive an annoying.

Exactly the same as my game, doesn't freeze to often but when it does it's annoying to wait 10 seconds for the game to fix it's self.

depends on what causes the freeze, while not all game related freezes are fixed yet, Beth can do nothing about system freezes not caused by the game code

I'm noticing a similar problem I'm running on a PS3 and any time the screen transitions into the water the game locks up, ive never had the problem before now.

Hey there, apparently there is a fix for this, here's the official word from Bethesda:

There is a simple solution according to Bethesda – they state to fix this water freezing issue you only need to “clear the game data“, which can be done by deleting game data from “Game>Game Data Utility>select Skyrim” via the PS XMB menu, although they also note this is not the same as your game save data. Once you restart Skyrim they claim it fixes all problems being reported by PS3 users, which are related to crashes when you enter water.

i agree, my very 1st xbox was so full of dust it was an inch thick and thats what ended its life after a year.
Keeping any electrical equipment free from dust should be a number 1 priority imo!
