Yeah, I use Faecesbook. It's annoying, but it's useful for keeping in touch with people who I'm too rubbish to actually write to (and vice versa!)

Adblock gets rid of some of it. But not all the "You might like" crap.

Ohhh. I thought you were talking about ads for crappy browser-based MMO's and what not.

I've never liked the idea of social media keeping tabs on everything I do. It seems like that info could be used against me.

Facebook, mostly to keep up with the latest social events that are being planned.

Yeah that's kind of how I look at it as well. It's a pretty good summary of my thoughts about FB.

Yeah, I use Facebook to organize social stuff with people, keep in touch with old friends, follow the latest news from bands I like, and generally waste time posting inane crap. And occasionally I've even used it for uni group work - as it's easier to follow than mass emailing...

No.

And I gave up my Youtube account (which, honestly, I really only used for keeping a list of favorite vids) when Google tried to strongarm every YT user into joining Google+.

Somewhat annoying when a video gets flagged as "possibly objectionable" since I can't see them without a login. (trailers for M games and R movies sometimes run afoul of that.)

Yes, because I'm a normal human being and not a hipster teenager who eschews such things to act cool.

Personal Facebook, and a Twitter for my graphic design. Plus LinkedIn & G+.

Yeah we use it for uni group work too. Every group assignment in the past 3 years we've used a FB group to organise meetings, upload files et cetera.

Why is everyone here so vehemently anti-social? What is so painful to you about the idea of keeping up with friends or social events?

I have both a facebook and twitter account and don't really use either of them. I only joined twitter recently and maybe I'm just using it wrong but I can't imagine people poring over so many posts and crap and I only follow 2 people on there...

I've noticed it's just the type of people Beth's games attract. Not very sociable, prefer to immerse themselves in games rather than in real life etc.

I may be a bit anti social but... I just don't like the marketing. It's targeted for you. Facebook collects all your data also. Besides I managed to keep up with friends and social events before facebook, i'm sure I can manage fine without. Plus I noticed facebook can get a bit 'work syndrome' the disease I diagnosed as having to get along with people who are not your friends.

Ah, former childhood bullys want to be friends with me? Random people, friends of friends? etc, the list goes on.

Then there is the like system, the apex of human commnication. 'X's cancer was a shock but at least it was quick' Bob likes this *thumbs up*

You now have 1,201 friends. Congratulations you must really have a great friendship with each of them.

Yeah sorry, i'm just a bit cynical towards Social Media.

Maybe we do it in reality with people we actually care about, instead of pretending to care about the birthday of some guy you met at a party 3 years ago.

Facebook, though I've found it to be similar to a refriginator. Checking it every ten minutes, knowing there's nothing new...

Well, Facebook sometimes has, but not nearly every ten minutes.

I have no friends and I am anti-social. I also have I phone I use as an alarm clock and only turn on when I need to make a call (once every 5-6 months). One year my mother sent me a letter giving me the specifics on Thanksgiving dinner, because I hadn't talked to any of them since Christmas.

I will never understand the "need" to constantly stay in touch with a ridiculous number of people, most of whom you never have met or will meet, yet still refer to as "friends", or calling or texting hundreds of time a day.

I am complete unto myself (don't give me the "island" speech). I do not need the attention or approval of others to feel my life is worthwhile.

Ah but forums are very different from something like Facebook. It's more of a place of discussion than random... whatever you call facebooking.

Earlier I said that I had better things to do. These would include, cleaning my apartment, playing games and - oh yes - meeting up with some of my friends to go out drinking, watch movies or have a dinner party. How do we organize such amazing feats? The phone. I use my phone, and call them.

The reason I quoted you, modus_operandi was to agree with you, by the way. I forgot that the original quote is not included. Forums! They work different!
