I find the music track they played during the Dead Island trailer somber, moody, yet weirdly uplifting. Does that count?
...and I don't mean the depressing trailer itself. Just the music.

Also, I tend to love music that's slow paced and heavily flute or other pipe based, in terms of "haunting."

I didn't like Anohana that much, but I always loved that song.
I havent even played Kanon and that makes me sad.

Reminds me of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9AikR6kDVA from narcissu.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8EmX1aTAnI depresses me more though.

Damn I need to listen to some happy stuff for a bit.

That one reminds me of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QX1xVNNaAyg of my favorites, with the slow tempo and the drawn out background instrument.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptZM237w7EA I find hauntingly beautiful.

But the crown goes to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEAkwzppObA, featured in that powerful opening scene. Full version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezz3Swkd2Sk. There are other reasons it's so powerful and moving to me, involving initiations which I am sworn to secrecy never to reveal, but I was already very familiar with this piece and love the movie that featured it so it had a profoundly powerful effect on me.

Surprised Sunn O))) haven't been mentioned, but for me, This Will Destroy You, Sutekh Hexen, Coldworld, most depressive black metal does a good job of haunting you. Supermachiner are great too, often listen to them whilst playing fallout.

The ANNO 2070 soundtrack amazes me, it's really well done, especially Asymmetrical Warfare. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fps7itq3_XY)

My love of The Mars Volta increases by the day, but I'd have to say that one song that kinda freaks me out is Soothsayer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cY4ZskZQEF4. I think it's not only because of the general sound of the song, but the story behind the entire album: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedlam_in_goliath#Background. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love it, but I can't listen to it without listening to another song straight afterwards.

Woe is Me

I'm on my phone atm, so I can't provide a link. Mr. Crabs from Spongebob played it on the world's smallest violin, if that helps.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkObnNQCMtM&feature=player_detailpage, choral arrangement for Samuel Barbers Adagio for strings. Doubly haunting if you've played Homeworld.

This - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1xF7UxXfCc - is a bit unnerving, especially the first few seconds. Also, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EWhjJb6iS0.

While http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ob0ESQ3dq-E is mystifying.

Think this may be one of my favorite songs of all time. Robin Pecknold is such an amazing singer and songwriter (yes I know this song is a rendition rather than an orginal composition) and this song is just so etheral and generally just bloody brilliant.

Lyrics to this are great. Just a great ode to nostalgia and old times.

hardcoe. A genre for militant straightedgers, pretenious political posturing and angry people, right? Wrong, it can also produce some bloody brilliant, gut-wrenching narrative concept albums.

Only got the f#a# (infinity) - EP, but its the like the sound to the most harrowing movie ever.

Wow, lots of songs to check out.

That was incredible. I find it strangely difficult to find music like this, as I have no idea how to begin looking for it. Much thanks for that one.

Another one I love is the end credits song to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=At6fjeWL98k. A polarizing movie, but the music in it is undeniably amazing.

Yet another, the end credits to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZX3tlJbaaE. I think I pay more attention to the soundtracks than the movies themselves.

Really? My only exposure to post-rock has been stuff like Igorrr, which isn't something I'd normally listen to.

Igorrr isn't post-rock.

Godspeed You!, which you thought was awesome is post-rock. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bN_UnDdLMW4

I'd say Godspeed You! is a little more dark ambient than your average post-rock band though.

Huh, I once knew a guy who was obsessed with post-rock and kept linking to Igorrr and stuff. I never understood what was up with him, but whatever. Perhaps it was just coincidental. Consider post-rock a new favorite genre of mine from here on out. :goodjob:

Problem with GSY!BE and bands like that is I can only listen to them like once every few months. Too demanding for me.

I could only listen to this stuff while doing other things, otherwise it's a bit too long and atmospheric to lend itself much to isolated listening. This would make fantastic background music for when I'm in the mood to work on some creative writing. Music is probably my greatest tool of inspiration for it, and I better reserve GSY!BE for the horror/trippy stuff.

I know i'm repeating myself, but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJXBgW_oLLY from Skyrim's soundtrack. Especially the last 1:30.

Yes. That was a powerful scene
