[RELWIP] Sounds of Skyrim

Post » Thu May 24, 2012 12:33 am

So with that said once you are done with your mod will you be willing to work with other modders to add a sound effect? Also is it possible for you to create new creature/monster noises?

Sounds of Skyrim will run with a ESM Master File that'll contain all the sound IDs and scripts. This will allow modders who make new areas to use that file to integrate Sounds of Skyrim in their project. I will make add-ons only for the official DLCs.

I can't design new sound effects. I do not have the skill to design something from scratch. I can clean and add the right filters at the right levels on existing sound effects that I find to create the desirable effect, but I cannot do more. :P

customizing... you'll take advantage of the new "plugin" feature?

I'm not sure what you mean by the new plugin feature. The configuration tool will be integrated in the game with a script where you'll be able to navigate menus to configure the mod. :)

I think he menas take advantage of script extender, which isn't new and goes all the way back to Oblivion.

And which usually is reserved for features only available by using the script extender.

I love ingame sounds especially the dungeon sounds will make a WHOLE LOT of a difference to immersion, it actually gives you shivers while without these voices you barely feel any excitement whatsoever cuz everything seems so peace n quiet. BTW I did notice quite a lot of white noise and thought the sound quality was quite poor on the dungeon sound starting at 1:51 though, the others were fine though. I also agree that the tavern and city sounds are perfectly OK with the correct volume levels and if played like you said more seldom than that video shows.

Getting a sound mod was one of the biggest improvements in immersion for Morrowind, some of these sound awesome for Skyrim. One thing I would caution, sometimes it's pretty awkward to have a tavern full of noise if the bartender is the only one around :ermm:

Ok no worries there just was wondering. So you think is possible to put filters and such on standard player dragon shouts so that when the mod comes out where draugr can use other shouts you can put sound to it?

I just randomly thought of an idea. What if when you engage in battle in the wilds you start to hear all of the forest creatures going crazy! That would be nice to know that the wildeness reacted to these events.

Aye tis great to stumble upon ye workings of Cliffworms, most trusted of fellas, to be sure.

Loving the samples you have supplied, I have one idea/request if I maybe so bold. The Falmer screaming to communicate is fine, just wondering while they are otherwise ignorant to intruders, to have a sound like a bat echo clicking given to them, and occasional sniffing the putrid air sound, would in my opinion be great.

I am, like so many have said, really looking forward to this mod. :bunny:

Hey Cliffworms, I don't know if its been suggested yet, but something cool happened to me in my travels recently. I was walking in the wilderness when I heard the sound of a blacksmith hammering in the distance. Curious about the sound, I went to inspect and I found a Stormcloak camp hidden in the wild. I thought it was pretty interesting to hear, and was really lucky to have heard it while I was traveling, so I wanted to put it out there as a suggestion. Maybe nearby Stormcloak camps can have the sound of weapons being hammered and created, or Stormcloaks sparring with each other in the camp?

Oh my Dibella..i think i just had an audio induced orgism sweeter then a Daggerfall's dungeon nymphs giggle.

Just when i was thinking Skyrim's audio was beyond perfect perfection the Master Modder Extreme Cliffworms appears out of the misty ether to bless us with this miraculous fantasy nearly reality audio gift to the senses suddenly awakened sharply.

Hello Cliffworms wonderful to see you and totally flabbergasted at what a supernatural difference your creation Sounds Of Skyrim makes breathing unheard of audio life to Skyrim. Wowzers am speechless in euphoric mental states of revelation.

The trailer videos are very professionally done and show with much prowess the audio power of your creation and those who are at your side helping to make it so. The dungeon trailer was very eerie and creepy yet totally lore friendly. The wilds trailer is very soothing and felt like i was suddenly blinked into the middle of woods. Raising the volume on the sound effects really makes a difference. Loved the crow and raven sounds along with the rain on different surfaces. I was suprised with happiness when i saw even patches of ice across spans of water had crackling sounds which i think was the first thing that i noticed and saddened me slightly when i didnt hear it in modless Skyrim as i cautiously walked across them the first time. Makes me wonder if i'll be hearing some big iceberg collisions in the far distance. The echo effects also make the character of the settings such as temples much more truer to their personality.

Thanks Cliffworms for this jaw dropping eye exploding ears expanding mod work of the fabulous

Hail Cliffworms! Truly thee Master Creator! :foodndrink:

Except for the cracking ice and the tavern sounds (both over the top, and not justified in relation to whats actually happening imo) i think this might be one of the mods I'm looking forward to, the most! It's amazing

I actually might play Obivion a bit just to eperience your work :D

Awesome. This is Morrowind's Atmospheric Sound Effects for Skyrim.

I did have to lower the volume of interior weather effects though with ASE. I felt they were too loud, loud enough to be distracting. I lowered them according to interior: stone interiors were lowered the most, wood interiors not lowered quite as much as stone, and tent interiors not quite as much as wood, but all still lower than their norms. It allowed me to hear the weather outside but felt a lot more realistic and a lot less distracting.

I'm a high-quality headphone guy, so this kind of improved audio is the stuff of wet-dreams  I have been SOOOO waiting for rain sounds that pop off of surfaces...great job on this! Can't wait for release, and I subbed on youtube. (loved the distant hammers...are some of those voices from nwn?)

Great work, but one question:

I was in the area around the tower stone and noticed I could hear the ice sheets cracking - so will yours be in addition to the vanilla sound?

Looking forward to this!

Could I recommend a whispering pines sound?

After hunting for an hour I finally found one that's close to what I mean...The third section of the "Forest Wind HD" is almost what I remember them sounding like on my family's farm.

I have pines in the garden of the family house, but not a forest, just a couple. then again, I might be misunderstanding the word "whispering"...

To me, it's that quite rustle of wind through pine needles..... when you say it outloud it sounds like a line from a tampon commercial.

Well, not sure if this in the mod yet... but subtle sounds of wind blowing in trees is beautiful. I'd love that in this mod

Thank you very much for the feedback and the comments. It's always very nice to hear and read.
Onward with the replies! (Split in two parts because the forums wouldn't allow me put so many quotes)

Replies Part 1:

plugin= a dll file like the Smart Souls mod!

I think he menas take advantage of script extender, which isn't new and goes all the way back to Oblivion.

And which usually is reserved for features only available by using the script extender.

Ah I see now. No, the configuration won't require Script Extender and will be done an in-game scripted menu.

One thing I would caution, sometimes it's pretty awkward to have a tavern full of noise if the bartender is the only one around :ermm:

The tavern sound effects and looped pvssyr play only during the busy hours. (When all the town's NPCs are having a drink during the evening) The sounds won't play in wilderness or settlement taverns where there's only the bartender and a few other people.

Ok no worries there just was wondering. So you think is possible to put filters and such on standard player dragon shouts so that when the mod comes out where draugr can use other shouts you can put sound to it?

I'm afraid it cannot be done. I can't take a sound from the game, rework it using its source and distribute it. That would require making new dragon shouts with someone else's voice. Plus, I do not know how to reproduce the dragon shout effect.

I just randomly thought of an idea. What if when you engage in battle in the wilds you start to hear all of the forest creatures going crazy! That would be nice to know that the wildeness reacted to these events.

It'd be nice to have the birds in trees fly away if you pick a fight in a forest. Or when a big creature's approaching. That could be a great idea for another mod I could work on. Thanks!

The Falmer screaming to communicate is fine, just wondering while they are otherwise ignorant to intruders, to have a sound like a bat echo clicking given to them, and occasional sniffing the putrid air sound, would in my opinion be great.

It'd be nice indeed, but that's not a sound that you could hear from far away. Having them sniff or "click" would be nice to be heard when you are close to them and they are idle.

Maybe nearby Stormcloak camps can have the sound of weapons being hammered and created, or Stormcloaks sparring with each other in the camp?

Since military camps are small, I'd prefer to keep sounds localized in these areas. If they would have been larger, it would have fit it nicely.

Awesome. This is Morrowind's Atmospheric Sound Effects for Skyrim.

ASE has always been my essential mod on my list for Morrowind. You'll notice that most town shouts and tavern sounds come from Duncan's project.

Most sounds were too loud though. I also reduced them.
