No spiders!

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 11:33 am

Can someone make a mode, or even teach me how to get rid of the spider models in the game? I don't care even if it was replaced by the meshes and textures of a fluffy teddy bear, as realism isn't something I'm looking for right now, I just want to get rid of them as quickly as possible.

I tried to do it myself, but it didn't work.
First, I opened the bsa file using bsa commander -after I edited byte 5 from 68 to 67 in a hex editor-
then I extracted all the meshes files into a folder, replaced the spider mesh with something else
Used BSA commander to pack the entire Mesh folder again and placed it in place of the original Skyrim mesh.BSA -after I reedited byte5 to 68 in the hex editor-
I try to launch the game, but the game crashes when its in the loading screen.

So I brought back the original mesh.BSA folder,
and tried to override the meshes by creating a Mesh folder in the game's data directory
and creating the path for the spider's mesh and replacing it with something else,
but all I managed to do is freezing the spider's animation, but it still look like a s[ider...and I can't come up with the courage to defeat this thing.`

I don't know why developers would still develop games with giant spiders in them, even though a large portion of the world's population suffer from a phobia of spiders..

Thanks a lot for any help, I've been stuck in a cave for hours

Let us replace them with furry Kittehz!!

... Wait for the Creation Kit, then replace them in the leveled lists, or remove them all together

I'll probably remove them.

You don't need to remove the spider models, in fact that would break the game!

What you need to do is remove them from all the levelled lists, then they'll never appear. You won't be able to do this until the SDK is released.

I know, was only joking, I live with 3 females who are all petrified of spiders so I can understand.

Also, as you're new, you can either use the reply button or the multiquote one and then the add reply to get the previous quote in your reply.

Thank you. I've been wondering what the multiquote button was supposed to do for 1.5 weeks now. I just resorted to old fashioned manual adding of BBcodes >.>

Errrr. I guess I'm gonna need to get back out of the cave and do some other quests, hoping that the quest isn't essential for the story.
I managed to kill the first GIANT one, but I'm too scared to find out if he's the last one :P

Thanks anyway fro the help, and that bit about multiqoute, I always wondered about that one.

Sigh, I have to try and complete other quests I guess...
Though I did kill on GAINT of these creautes whose name shall not be mentioned -by not looking at the screen and abusing the destruction spell buttons offcourse-
though I can't tell for sure if its the last one xD

If I didn't live in australia, I'd be too scared of the spiders to actually come here...cannot stand the things but I managed to kill the massive one in the early main story quest....

I almost pissed my pants doing it though and can't understand why bethesda would damage such and awesome game by having giant spiders and realistic ones at that!

However, surely the best way to cure your phobia would be to spend several hours hacking, slashing and burning giant massive spiders which cannot physically hurt you! :toughninja:

There was very similar thread for Fallout where someone who had a roach phobia was trying to get a really old mod which removed all the rad roaches from the game to work. We ganged up on her and made her confront her fears and go roach hunting! I think she said it helped, or did she have a nervous breakdown? Cant remember which now :chaos:

even though a large portion of the world's population suffer from a phobia of spiders..

Only about 3% of men are estimated to have any debilitating form of arachnophobia.

A lot of people are scared of spiders, that does not mean those people have any serious form of arachnophobia but only a mild one which makes up the majority of the 18% in the US.

And I believe (knowing someone who has a more serious form that manages to play games with spiders) that a majority of those people would only get mild effect from virtual spiders.

I'm by no means dissing your condition, sorry that your phobia isn't taken into account but it is definitely NOT reasonable for gamesas to work around peoples phobias, just wait for the CS.

Close your eyes and ears when it comes to a spider fight. Beat it up blind. That's the only way for NOW.

Back in the day there was a mod for System Shock 2 that was made on request by someone who also had arachnophobia. It's a serious thing not to be taken lightly.

If nobody has made this in a year or so, I will do it. The problem is that I'm not getting Skyrim for a long while. I don't have the phobia, but it's on the list of mods I am interested in making.

Best way to get over a phobia is to face your fears.

Its a mental illness.

Skyrim is a game. Where else can you smash a spider with a war hammer????

GO NUTS BRO! XD

and goodnight.

Because not everyone is you.

Most people don't mind spiders.

Most people who do mind spiders can get over their fear. I'm not disrespecting you in anyway, but really, the best way for you to help yourself is to confront your fears :)

I don't have the game, CS is not yet released, but I reckon that you could easily unpack meshes BSA and replace spiders nifs with bunny rabbits nifs.

Regardless of whether you're arachnophobic, every second dungeon being spider-infested is rather lame and uncreative :P

In fact, I haven't entered a dungeon without spiders yet.

Well, it is cold outside and they are bit too big to crawl under the rock. :)

Apologies for laughing at some of this topic OP, I feel for you bro really. I've ALWAYS been scared of deep water in real life, mainly due to a rational fear of terrifying sharks, and I remember in Oblivion if my character was to so much as get his feet wet, I'd have to swim through looking away from the screen. :D

I have to say, murdering several hundred of the things that epitomise your fear may well go some way in alleviating the problem, as Torrello said!

Arachnophobia is a fear like any other. There are far worse things that can kill you my friend, far worse and even more so its not something to be too dramatic about ;).

Thanks for anyone who tried to help. :D
and for those who wants me to overcome it, I almost had a mental breakdown when I was at the end of the hall, and that....thing, shot a web at me...I almost puked, and I had to call my brother to help me defeat it.

As I said in the op, I tried to extract the bsa, replace them and create another bsa with BSA Commander and BOMM, the game would not read any nif file, it would crash in the loading screan the minute it tries to load a 3d model.

I'll make an attempt, just give me some time to test it.
I guess till the CS come out -does anyone know when it'll come?- this would be the best solution.

I'm just guessing since, as I already said, don't have the game. But, you should try replacing every file found in spider's folder with it's equivalent from (for example) rabbit folder. Like skeleton, model and all animations. And try leaving it in loose folders instead of recreating BSA.

Just thought I'd leave this here for anyone who hasn't noticed this yet.

Replaces spiders with bears! :D

Note: This is not my mod. I just noticed it on the nexus and remembered this thread. ^^
